Tried to edit for clarity. But the scene from the previews where they are in their multicolored space suits is not the visual achievement some of those tweets are saying it is
Overall I would say this is the strongest in the latest batch of films but it helps that we have some incredible performances from beloved characters. I mostly wanted to temper a few expectations because frankly I think people are riding Gunn a little high with his work on DC and him being a bit of a rogue at times (if I am honest some of those exhuberant tweets have read as a self affirmation that this movie can be nothing short of perfect because of how Gunn was handled by Disney years ago)

That's more like it, Marvel. Happy to say my concerns were unfounded.
By far the best MCU since Endgame, outside of NWH. (Granted, not that high a bar.)
Emotional, well-paced, and hilarious. Far better than 2, but not as good as 1. Not far behind though.
Also, THIS would've been a better big bad than Kang. He is far more intimidating than Kang, and a better actor too.

Right now, it's looking like Guardians Vol 3 might not even do as well as Ant-Man/Wasp: Quantumania, so we're definitely seeing a Marvel backlash that is going to really throw off what was expected to be one of the summer's biggest blockbusters

I tried to go to my local theater last night on a whim, and there was only front row available. Just anecdotal.

It's immediately in my Top 3 Marvel movie list- easily! Heck it might even be top 2. Is it ridiculous and full of outlandish creativity and imagination? Heck yea… buts it's the freaking guardians of the galaxy! And an emotional rollercoaster! Loved it
BO has been looking weak since the early projections, BUT here's hoping the word of mouth will actually help rather than hurt this one.

I think fatigue is absolutely the right word. The entire phase 4 was mediocre except for one movie.
I would be shocked if a good guardians movie came below Antman though.

MCU films once seemed like an event. Now there is so much content across the D+ shows, more movies, more crossovers, less of the beloved characters, its 100% over saturated. Add in the movies went from a lock to be good to great to now very hit or miss.
But I don't want to weigh down the GotG thread with this. I'm pumped to see it. Going to the IMAC on Sunday.

I'll say this….if this movie under performs then there will DEFINITELY be some back pedaling on the BO projection bets that were going on over on the MCU thread about The Marvels
In phase 2 and 3, Marvel did a great job in making each movie a chapter in the overall story. Even if the movie was self contained, you felt like missing it would mean you missed a key part in the overall story. We aren't getting that now. It doesn't matter if I don't see this movie, because there's nothing connecting it to the overall story.
Agree with this 100%. I'm a huge Marvel fan. Every film used to be something my wife and I would be at first viewing open night. Now we're slated for Sunday just because we didn't feel like doing it last night.Farmer1906 said:

The last few years with all the extra stuff and feeling a little letdown with each release has taken a little bit of a toll

I haven't seen it yet, but I would recommend the first 5 min of Thor. It answers why Thor isn't with them.
