While I thought it was really good, and certainly better than most of what Marvel has put out the last few years... IMO, it doesn't hold a candle to the first two. For me, the script wasn't nearly as tight, it felt a little too bloated/disjointed, and the needle drops were a bit forced/uninspired as well (though I absolutely loved the opening and closing ones). Again, it's a solid movie for sure, to the point where the very few people I've seen sh*tting on it must have issues or brought a lot of their own, personal baggage to ti. That said, I'm not nearly as high on it as a number of others are either, and as a huge lover of the first two movies, for whatever reasons I just didn't feel quite the same connection here.
I'll put it this way... we saw it in a prime viewing situation... the Chinese Theater... IMAX screen... amped crowd who cheered when the Marvel logo came up... and throughout the trailers - Dune: Part Two, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Oppenheimer, etc - I was absolutely buzzing. The summer movie season was back and I was absolutely high on movies/life. But two-and-a-half hours later I was honestly just exhausted more than anything. Maybe it's Marvel fatigue, or CGI gobbledygook fatigue, or a combination of both. Or maybe I'm simply looking forward to other blockbusters way more this year. Before the next Marvel run - Secret Invasion leading into The Marvels - all I know is that I'm glad we have a long break.
