I saw it today and I thought large part of it was so sad and depressing. The backstory on rocket is just heartbreaking. And it's even freaking animation and it made me so sad. Parts of it we're good. I think the first one was the best one.

Saw this today. This is the best MCU movie since Endgame.

Like others have stated, there is a lot of emotion in this movie, particularly around the Rocket character. There is some good humor as well. Visual effects were as good as they were in the previous entries in this trilogy. I will call this the second best trilogy in the MCU, behind the Captain America trilogy due largely in part to just how awesome Winter Soldier was and how not memorable Volume 2 was.

I was not enamored with Adam or the way that the golden people were actually a creation of the High Evolutionary. The opening with Adam wailing on the Guardians was great, but pretty much everything with Adam and the golden chick was meh.

I absolutely loved that Quill returns home to reunite with his grandfather. I may actually think that was the best part of the movie.

I liked how they dealt with Gamora and Quill. I kept waiting for some Hollywood ending for these characters, where she would remember something that she clearly never experienced. Thankfully that didn't happen, although I was glad to see her at least seem to build the beginning of a relationship with these other characters.

I was under the impression that this is it for these actors and characters in the MCU - yet it ends with the James Bond like statement, Star-Lord will return ...

The musical choices for this one did nothing for me. After the first one, I was actually humming many of those songs well after seeing the movie, even bought the CD with all those songs. I won't be doing that with Volume 3.

There are a couple of post-credits sequences, but neither would seem to be pivotal to anything coming in the MCU.

Volume 1 > Volume 3 > Volume 2.

I've read no other reactions here or really anywhere. Just got out.

It's beautiful. I honestly wept. It's still very fresh and I'm a little raw, but I think it's the best MCU movie.

So much thanks to James Gunn and Bradley Cooper especially.

I'm honestly at a loss for words.

I also agree that outside of the final song I had very little attachment to the music in this

That was a fantastic movie.

It will remind you of how fun Marvel can be when it's at its peak. And it also has a great emotional core.

Highly recommend it.

While I thought it was really good, and certainly better than most of what Marvel has put out the last few years... IMO, it doesn't hold a candle to the first two. For me, the script wasn't nearly as tight, it felt a little too bloated/disjointed, and the needle drops were a bit forced/uninspired as well (though I absolutely loved the opening and closing ones). Again, it's a solid movie for sure, to the point where the very few people I've seen sh*tting on it must have issues or brought a lot of their own, personal baggage to ti. That said, I'm not nearly as high on it as a number of others are either, and as a huge lover of the first two movies, for whatever reasons I just didn't feel quite the same connection here.

I'll put it this way... we saw it in a prime viewing situation... the Chinese Theater... IMAX screen... amped crowd who cheered when the Marvel logo came up... and throughout the trailers - Dune: Part Two, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Oppenheimer, etc - I was absolutely buzzing. The summer movie season was back and I was absolutely high on movies/life. But two-and-a-half hours later I was honestly just exhausted more than anything. Maybe it's Marvel fatigue, or CGI gobbledygook fatigue, or a combination of both. Or maybe I'm simply looking forward to other blockbusters way more this year. Before the next Marvel run - Secret Invasion leading into The Marvels - all I know is that I'm glad we have a long break.

I do think Gunn was given a blank check and should been told no on 15 % of it or to reel it back

Soundtrack didn't stick for me in this one.

I loved it. I think the music is a generational thing. As a kid of the 90s, the music hit home for me.

I think this one is my favorite one. Love all of them.

I always assumed marvel movies were overstuffed due to studio mandates.

Like, instead of James Gunn asking for Adam Warlock, I figured the studio dictated, "You must introduce Adam Warlock."

Or in Black Panther 2, it felt like the studio had said, "You must introduce Riri, we have plans for a TV show around that character."

Etc

I imagine it's case by case on who is asking for what, but when a character feels like they don't fit in a story, I usually chalk that up to the studio dictating they be added.

It's my understanding that Warlock is going to become a centerpiece for Marvel. Makes sense to introduce him as they did. I loved his character and felt he pretty much stole every scene he was in.

So is this the bland, spoiler-less reaction thread?

I liked it. Not as much as one or two, but it was still good. Weirded me out a lot too, but not overly so.

I am also a 90's kid. Granted my wife says I've been an 80yo man for 20 years already. First one was just an iconic soundtrack

I enjoyed it, I agree that it's better than 2, not as good as 1. You could have immediately made it better by cutting down 50% on the slow-mo walking shots.

I liked Warlock, but I wish they would have made him talk in rhyme like they do in the recent video game. He's a hilarious straight man, especially with Rocket.

I would enjoy seeing another Guardians movie based on the ending.

GOTG 2 > 1 > 3

The soundtrack was an entirely different era than the first two but in the meantime I was singing along to all of them. Worked for me.
