The movie is based on a novel which is based on historical events. To me that's not really the same as a mystery, unless the film's major plot points wildly deviate from what actually happened. Not to get into another derailment but I don't see that from what previews I've seen.

The whole point of the book's style is that you don't know who is behind the murders until the last third of the novel. Even then, there's a very late twist that's pretty wild. It even introduces characters as friend or foe, only for later twists to make it not so. Those twists are spoiled all over the trailer.
The first trailer stuck with that style of "can you find the wolves in this picture." Now it seems to make this out like there's no mystery at all in a book about one of the great mysteries of the early 20th century.
Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” will receive a run in IMAX theaters upon its release, Apple announced today. The company shared the news along with the release of the full trailer for the film, which can be watched here: https://t.co/aCT3I2B4fK pic.twitter.com/o7E7rDKcB9

That's the only thing I can think of it being. Some of the main mysteries of the book are shredded in the trailer. Maybe if you haven't read the book, the lack of reveals and sleuthing won't be a big deal. I have to think Scorsese is moving it from a mystery to a straight narrative where you know who is on what side early on, or else there is no reason for that type of trailer. I'm just a bit disappointed in that, because it would be a helluva way to construct a historical film. Kudos to Grann for being willing to take that chance on the book. I'm sure the movie will still be great. I hope it doesn't eliminate all the mystery the book dives into so deeply.TCTTS said:BassCowboy33 said:Belton Ag said:

As a non-book reader I just watched the trailer, and no disrespect, but I genuinely don't know what you're referring to. As someone who knows nothing of the story, there was nothing at all that felt spoiled here. It just seemed like a very standard setup of the story/conflict. Also, to be clear, they're not telling the exact same story as the book. It's apparently from a different perspective, or covers part of the story not covered in the book. Something along those lines.
As for the trailer itself, I thought it was incredible, and honestly more compelling than the last one.
I'm all in on this movie.
‘KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON’ will no longer have a limited release on October 6 & will instead release worldwide on October 20.

I'm also fascinated that this film appears revolve around two characters that play important, but supporting roles in the book. Plemons' character is the main guy in the books.
Quote:
"It felt too much like an investigation into detective work," said the actor, who was originally slated to play FBI agent Tom White. White is a prominent figure in Grann's book, and his story is fairly cut and dried. "We tried to do more research, hoping to go deeper on Tom White. Does he have difficulties? Maybe he's drinking?" Scorsese recalled. "I finally said, 'What are we making? A film about Tom White, who comes in and saves everybody?'"
The film began to coalesce once DiCaprio took on the role of Ernest Burkhart, the nephew of William Hale (Robert De Niro). "Marty and Leo's idea to focus on the relationship between Bill and Ernest made sense to me," De Niro added. "They wanted to focus more on that dynamic instead of Tom White coming in and saving the day."
...
It was DiCaprio who suggested focusing on the morally complex Ernest and his marriage to Mollie Burkhart (Lily Gladstone), an Osage woman. "The love story [changed everything]," Scorsese admitted. "I said, 'How do we do the love story?' We couldn't figure it out. And then Leo said, 'What if I play Ernest?'"

Poor Plemons. The focus was always going to be on DiCaprio, it was just a question of which character it was going to be.Quad Dog said:BassCowboy33 said:

I thought it was good, if a bit long. You could probably lose a good 25 minutes.
My one main complaint is how it wraps up. I think we really needed a longer scene with Ernest and Mollie once she learned the truth. Plus, it was never made 100% clear if he was purposely trying to kill Mollie, or was ignorant to what he was injecting her with.
