It would be one thing if they had an explanation for all of this and it was up to the viewer to figure out what that was. I'd be a big fan of that. But that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems like they just said, "it would be really weird if THIS happened" and kept adding crap upon crap.
it was a political coup from rouge armed forces. Still, not sure how that explains how they would be able to disrupt the animal migration patterns. Deer and flamingos use Apple Maps maybe?

I can't believe no one has brought up the fact that Kevin Bacon's character is wearing a Dallas Cowboys baseball cap in the movie (they even reference it in dialogue). Of course, his character is a "prepper" who immediately turns to the guy who has all the means to survive but won't share it with anyone because "it's fer his family, and his people".

Seemed like the director was throwing shade at the South, or Middle America. Bacon's character was not going to give any kind of assistance until he was offered $1000, and then his tune changed and he was handing out meds and helpful info while sitting in front of his house with the door wide open (but with his trusty 12 gauge within reach, because, come on, all of us Texans have a 12 gauge within reach, right?). Also, all of his info was crazy conspiracy-type theories of who was behind the attack. That would be the most "on the nose" thing I got from the movie. I wish I could get those two hours of my life back.

That's the 2nd time that "on the nose" has been used in this thread. I've never heard that phrase used as a criticism. What do you guys mean?
It means the film beats you over the head with the point they're trying to make, like the interactions between Roberts and the daughter.

Right. "On the nose" means perfectly placed/executed. "Too on the nose" means too perfect to be plausible or believable.

The animal stuff is primarily what I'm talking about. Also the noise thing.

Also the airliner thing. Why have them conveniently crash on the beach in front of a protagonist? Why not just drop them in the ocean or wherever they are at the moment?

Not really a good movie, drags in times, over the top others. So if you are looking for an academy award winner, don't bother.

But it was a fun movie for a Friday night if you are looking for mindless entertainment.

To be fair, he didn't accept the 1k initially. But when he decided to have a change of heart, ofc he was going to accpet the money. I don't kow what you guys are getting hung up on... seems in line with Cowboys fans to me.

I wish that they would have left him out of the previews. I was like okay, once they unite with Kevin the show is going to really pick up, but nope, they are just going to buy medicine in an intense way

I guess it was just coincidental that there was some sort of mechanism really near their location, I guess being close to NYC and all. The boat, planes and animals all essentially coming to the same location.

We regularly use "too on the nose" when watching shows/movies. Lately it seems more and more commonly said in our house.

To me it always comes across as wildly smug writing writing and/or incredibly unqualified to have the job writing.

To me the most sensible explanation is that hackers did it. But that still wouldn't make much sense. It's not like you can just break into an airplane computer and tell it to nosedive.

Yeah why did two planes crash in the exact same spot? And the oil tanker maybe lost its gps but was it unaware of Long Island and just ran into it?

I also never understood why the daughter (other than just blindly hating white people) was so rude and angry the entire movie. Also if they were so wealthy, I dont think they'd be renting their house on Airbnb.

I saw the comment that the animals were meant to represent all of nature. It is fighting back against us, warning us whatever. And we either ignore it or yell back at it mindlessly.

Pretty much no one on earth understands how ships and shipping works besides those that work in the industry, at least that is my experience from 15+ years in the industry.

Let's pretend for a moment they could do that (they can't)... so why?

The tanker thing made some sense: cut your enemy's oil supply. But why crash airliners? The only reason I can think of is that it's eerie when it happens in front of protagonists in a movie.

A ships crew has 1000 ways to stop the engine from running before it runs up on the beach though so it doesn't actually make sense.

Or if there is any competent deck officer on board they could just, you know, turn.

I think just for max chaos, but yeah, it happening at spot that is right next to them seems sketchy. Also, they would have definitely heard a commercial jet crashing back at the house, add that to the list of unbelievable things.

The movie did have a racial angle that was completely unnecessary. I couldn't stand that Ruth chick by the end. If she got killed it would have been a good ending.

I meant the motivation for an enemy to do that made sense. Not the technicals on how it could actually happen.

The racial tones are definitely there and this movie seems made to pander to black audiences.

Uptight, white woman with nuclear family (husband that puts up with her) has two drinks and is suddenly ready to **** a black man she didn't even want to let in the house...because he told her a scary story? WTF?

This movie was ****ing terrible for many of the reasons already mentioned. It's like it couldn't decide what was going on, so it would do a bunch of random crap while trying to be mysterious. Instead it came off as stupid fanfic amateur hour with the ham fisted messaging.

Didn't he explain that part of the process to get to the end is to create chaos and confusion? Planes falling out of the sky will do that.

Oops.

Tangent- off tangent: Why do these Netflix movies have to be two hours and ten to twenty minutes long? Cut about 35 minutes off the thing and maybe it would be OK.

Agreed but I don't need a veg out movie to explain the science in detail so I can verify whether it's real or not. Some posters here must be insufferable to watch a movie with.

I'm not gonna go back and watch but from what I remember she was begging him to stop. When he did she said "I finally found somebody. I'm trying to get home. I just started walking and I'm lost. I need to use your phone because mine is dead. You're the first person I've seen all day. We need to leave if we want to live. I just saw an airplane spraying red smoke all around. Please help me get home. I think I saw a military plane. There's nobody around. Is this a chemical attack?"

Wife and I both really enjoyed it. Music was a little weird, but it added to the suspense I guess. Also the deer parts were very dumb and unrealistic to me.

Crazy to think that it's very possible something like that could happen and likely will be attempted at some point.
If we keep letting hundreds/thousands of military aged Chinese and Middle Eastern males through our wide open borders, it's only a matter of time before at least a few local grids/water supplies etc are attacked.
