Thank you all for the Grisham recommendations. I'm going to the library after work today to do some browsing. (Yes, I still old-school and check out paper books, but think I'm going to ask Santa for a Kindle finally. Lol.)

Wow - I guess I need to do this so I can get more reading done. Do you just use the Kindle app on your phone? I guess I have always assumed the pages would be too small on my phone. (Yes, I'm a bit old school when it comes to books.)Rudyjax said:Ag12thman said:

I read 99% of my books on my phone. I can always read.

I was diehard old school until I got a kindle. Absolutely love it and would never go back. My whole library in one place. Paper white does make a huge eye strain difference, but I will read on the app on my phone sometimes. Integration with audible is great. Prices are better for the most part.

I'm really enjoying The Will of the Many. Final a book I've been able to sink my teeth into since Red Rising

Question about Lonesome Dove. Do you read all 4 books in order, or just Lonesome Dove? Wanting to jump in over Christmas break.

The two prequels are good, the sequel is ok.... hard to have a "Lonesome Dove-verse" without Gus McCrae. It's like Sundance without Butch... all brooding & no levity. The contrast in their personalities, worldview etc. are what make the original book better than all the other westerns out there.
Lonesome Dove is, IMO, the finest Western ever written & one of the best books ever written.
Just know if you start there, it's all downhill.

Started Suneater. I've read first four chapters and just wanted to say how brazen the author is for flat out plagiarizing Dune like he did.
Enjoying it so far though.

Read LD first IMO

Agree that the plagiarizing IS pretty obvious.....not just Dune to me. Gets original enough to excuse it as you go. I am on number 4 and taking a break right now. Feel like it is dragging/getting a little repetitive. Hopefully it picks back up.

Makes me wonder how many people who love this series read Dune.
Did you read any of the short stories/novellas? Looks to be some in between the main books.

I read Dune and Hyperion 2x before Sun Eater. The author is unapologetic about the influence both had on him and wrote his story as an homage to them.
The similarities fade the further you read on but at the end of the day it's still a classic "Hero's Journey" tale. I'm half way through book 7 and it's incredible. Books 3-6 are 5* masterpieces and this is shaping up to be the cherry on top.
I will say if book 3 didn't sell you (probably a top 5 book I've personally ever read) and still find the story tedious after that, it might just not be for you.
