I love the show so far (not a medical person). It's definitely grittier than ER and I really like the characters so far. I wonder how many times Whitaker (young white med student) is going to have to change his scrubs in this one shift. There's a lot of hours left to cover lol.
.

With the show being so serious, it feels a little out of place to have the running gag of "what bodily fluid is he getting sprayed with next?"

Enjoying it even though the machine gun of PC/woke topics are eyeroll inducing. That kind of thing doesn't bother me and it's almost comedic at this point. But I like the characters, the intensity, and the authenticity on the rest

Welcome to the ER. My wife cusses like a sailor and according to her, everyone that works in the ER, both doctors and nurses, have a very immature sense of humor.

Mostly caught up on the episodes. I agree, this show has gone out of its way to portray a mostly accurate account of life, death and work in the ER. Including the angry psych patient spraying everyone with urine.

Everything on the show I've personally seen and also taken care of.

Waiting for the biker gang shoot out episode…..

In the middle of watching this. Have an episode or two to catch up on.

Most painful case for me so far is the couple that came in with their brain-dead son and couldn't accept that he was gone.

Close second was the brother and sister hanging on to their elderly father.

Really good show.

I work in EMS and the brother/sister hanging on to the Father was tough to watch. I work in an area with aging patient population have calls like that once a month. The medicine/treatment aspect is straight forward but managing the emotions of the family is challenging because they are usually under a great deal of stress.

But overall it is a good show that does show all sides of the patient and provider view points. Side note, going to the hospital by ambulance does not guarantee that you will be placed in a room. A lot of non-urgent cases go to the lobby. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk….

Nope. We lock them so we do not end up on the news like HFD.

Happened at my hospital a few years back while I was on shift. We all gathered around the security camera monitor and just kept replaying the video and laughing.

This show is great! As a PA who was worked in the ER for over 20 years….this show checks all the boxes.

The accuracy made a lot more sense when I found out the EMRAP guys were involved.

We are only on the 4th episode, but I've looked at my wife about 12 times and said…."yep, that's happened"

I can see how a non medical person might get lost in the terminology a little

The episode when the parents are screaming about their brain dead son got to me. The way they panned around the ER and showed everyone in their own world hearing the parent's pain….but moving on. Made me think of the countless times I was charting, or doing something….heard screams of the family who just lost a loved one in another room, had a sad thought, but then had to move on.

Prior to being an PA, I was a paramedic for a county 911 service. And yes….I had someone "steal" the ambulance. Sort of…..We were in the Walls unit up in Huntsville. While we were in the infirmary, one of the guards hopped in the ambulance and drove it around. He said he was trying to prove a point that an inmate could have taken it for a joy ride. Fair point I suppose…..but that's why he and 3 other guards were left with the truck. Needless to say, we always locked it up after that.

Some of the "on the nose" expository stories from the patients remind me of Kramer

This show just jumped the shark for me after the last episode.

Some of these actors are terrible. They use an over-the-top expressive thinking face that I can't not notice and can't take seriously anymore. It is mostly the actresses minus the autistic lady.

This really is trying to hit every single imaginable social issue and it has gone past annoying and into absurd. I knew right away when the sexual abuse was hinted that the young doctor would have that in her past and be over the top. The black lady doctor having a miscarriage IMMEDIATELY after giving a young girl a late chemical abortion was also eye rolling.

I want to like it but starting to lean this way too. I know its TV drama but seems like a bit too much squeezed in. And the schtick with the one young Doc that is constantly having to change scrubs is going to be way over played by the time its done. Too predictable.

this...I really want to like it but the PC/woke BS I so over the top it's becoming annoying. Can we do ONE episode with out the PC/woke BS...I'm 2-minutes into EP9 and NOPE, not a single episode so far.

Good series finale. Surprised santos was right on the addiction; can any of the resident docs comment on how common doctors/nurses fall into addiction traps?

I thought the last two episodes were pretty good and back to "basics." That said, it feels like they're giving us the top 20 cases ERs ever see. What's going to be left for season 2?

Unfortunately, addiction and suicide rates run very high in medicine. I've lost several colleagues already to them. Never the ones you would expect either.

Addiction is just as common in medicine as it is in the community. Now it's pretty rare for docs to get caught diverting meds like Langdon, because most docs (outside of anesthesiologists) do not have access to the Pyxis (machine that holds meds).

I've worked at several locations and known several nurses that have been busted for diverting controlled meds. Had one nurse snatch a bottle of ketamine I used to sedate a patient. When she got called out for not "wasting" the med (two nurse verification of appropriately dispensing controlled substance), she "found" the bottle in the sharps container but when the fluid in the bottle was tested, it was found to be saline rather than ketamine. She subsequently lost her nursing license.

Also had one colleague kill himself after killing a young kid by driving the wrong way on the highway after getting called into work while he was drunk and supposed to be taking call. The cops perp walked him around the ER the night he drunkenly killed that kid. The drunk at work thing made a lot of his abnormal behavior much more understandable.

Had an attending in residency get his medical license get put on probation for getting a DUI. He later came back after rehab. Ended up getting fired from the ER staffing group a few months after he came back. About a year or two later, he picked up a prostitute and took her back to his place. He asked her for some cocaine, but she "accidentally" (per her testimony) gave him fentanyl, he died, and then the prostitute and her pimp ransacked his house for valuables.

Most ER docs/nurses practicing for more than a few years will have plenty of these stories.

Would love to see an episode about how mental health care is red flagged as a liability for these workers.

It's wrong.

I love the show. I think it's the best thing on TV right now. And those complaining about it being woke are just trying really hard to nitpick the show. It's really not that over the top (especially compared to a lot of shows these days).

Can we talk about the actual characters? I love the show, and I'm not nit picking at it for content, but some things- if it were real life, would cause me to go looney...

1.) mom that came w her son bc she is worried about his mental health...why is she still hanging around and asking to talk to Dr. Robby? Go home or go to the school or the police. Jesus. Does he look like he has free time to just talk w you all day?
2.) doc with the ankle monitor- apparently has a family of rats living in her hair. That is such a pet peeve. Pull your hair back into a ponytail and stop leaving out front pieces. It looks like *****
3.) Santos is my least favorite character and a grade grubber...but I don't dislike that she got Langdon fired.
4.) In what universe does a hospital employee smoke that close to the door? Eh.

This show doesn't seem like its a good candidate for a second season unless they completely revamp the location and cast.

I also think that whether you like it or not, maybe this is how America is right now. I feel there are only a handful of professions that have a good pulse on the "way things are" in America, and healthcare is at the top of the list. Now there might be some "Hollywood" liberties for entertainment, but I have to think that these patients are pretty common.
For those in the medical profession, thanks for all that you do!

If they had played their cards correctly, they could have rolled into the next season with all new characters and patients. The Pitt -Night Shift
