I'm failing to see how an anti-vaxx measles case is "woke BS" when a Texas child literally just died of it this past month, well after this episode was shot.

I miss the days when we all just pointed and laughed at anti-vaxxers as the morons they are.

Make that two children now as a girl died last night from it in Lubbock. Don't worry though, I'm sure her parents did their research. AND, she was "pure blood" to the end and that's what really matters. I'm sure our ex heroin addict Health Secretary with the brain eating amoeba will be on the case with some great advice if he can find the time to stop sending dick pics to women that aren't his wife.

Can we at least separate the MMR vaccine from the Covid vaccine? Those are not equitable arguments.

Solid episode but lol at shoehorning measles anti-vaxxer mom at the end. Kind of spoiled the whole thing
I mean, we covered just about every other woke BS topic in a 12hr shift, why not that one?
What type of patients, ailments, or medical scenarios for an ER show would be on the opposite of "Woke BS Topic?" Car crashes, blue collar injuries, hunting accidents?

The measles case is fine, but having the mom react normally and trust the doctor would've been apolitical.

I have never once had an anti-vaxx parent act apolitical and trust me or a colleague with regard to vaccines, even when presenting with diseases that the child should have been vaccinated against. Having them act normally would've been inconsistent with reality.

The parents of the first child here in Texas who died from measles stated that they still wouldn't vaccinate knowing what they know now.

You mean when 100s of thousands of people died from a disease that had a readily available vaccine that a certain side of the political spectrum refused to take leading to disastrous consequences for many of them unlucky enough to contract said disease? Meanwhile deaths from those vaccinated was orders of magnitude less. And while trying to save so many of these people from themselves, we had family members or the patients themselves yelling at us to give bizarre, nonsensical drug cocktails and vitamins or flat out telling us we were lying to them about the severity or that they had the disease to begin with.

No, I wish I was asleep for all of 2021/22, but unfortunately I had to sit through some of the most traumatic and difficult times you could possibly imagine for the patients and those caring for them. Entire units with patients with whited out lungs on CXR, on 100% FiO2 and max PEEP settings on the ventilator with O2 sats in the low 80s and literally nothing else we could do for them. Meanwhile I had people on here claiming the death we all saw around us was made up or that the vaccine was somehow worse than the disease despite clear evidence to the contrary as a true testament to human stupidity.
. LOL…..thanks for proving my point.

I'm saying the show should strive to be apolitical. The show is more than capable of striving without the writers taking on politics due to the great acting and concept. Woke writing is nothing but copying what most other writers are doing in Hollywood. I'd prefer original writing, not following norms.

Just started watching. My girlfriend is an ER doctor was reluctant to watch it but after the first episode she says it is pretty accurate.

Also for anyone interested, a director I use quite a bit won an emmy for 24/7/365 which is an ER documentary. Parts of it are required viewing by ER residents.

I don't know what or who to believe anymore. I just try to stay healthy. All I know is that it creeped me out when the medical professionals were HEAVILY pushing the vaccine on my 5-6 month pregnant wife (at a time when the CDC was not recommending it for children under 12 or something like that), and they acted like we were insane/stupid for politely declining...knowing we had recovered from Covid just a few months prior and likely still had immunity (or at least much more than the experimental vxx could provide). Nah, if you don't recommend it for children under a certain age, I am damn sure not going to expose my negative 4 month old to it.

I am sorry, but science and medicine has done a lot to lose the trust of many. The whole "you gotta get your vaccine so other people's vaccines will magically work and you won't have blood on your hands" messaging from politicians and medical experts was hilariously absurd. Also, I remember a lot of medical experts and scientists basically saying it was ok to congergate on the city streets by the thousands in the summer of 2020, so long as you were gathering for a worthy social justice cause. I promise you i am not making this up.

But really what turned a lot of people like me off of the vaccine (which I still consider to be crap because it didn't prevent the spread, and two fully vaxxed/boosted people I know in their 60's and 70's still got severe cases and ended up in ICU, with one almost dying and looking like he had aged 20 year in a matter of weeks) was the mandates. The demonization. Politicians forcing you to make certain medical decisions or be fired or basicaly calling you out as heartless killers is a no from me dog.

Science and medicine needs to start coming back towards sanity before people start to fully trust in them again...because this "men can get pregnant" and "it's compassionate healthcare to chop the breasts off of confused 13 yr old girls" crap is beyond absurd.

Seen it.
Been told to my face by Dr. Ken Mattox who is featured on that documentary that there wouldn't be an ER program at Baylor unless it was over his dead body.

He's still alive and there's a thriving ER program there now.

I was responding to another person's highly charged political post. This may be childish, but he started it.
Just finished watching the series. Yes, the physician on here posted about his experiences during Covid and about vaccines. But, that interaction in the final episode with the parents (and especially mom) was not really about vaccines. Yes, it started with vaccines but then the discussion transitioned quickly to the vaccine is no longer relevant and the issue was treatment. They (doctors) wanted to do a spinal tap. She immediately went to her phone and became Dr. Google. She argued with the doctors while her son was dying feeling empowered about her information from Google and that somehow put her on a more informed plane and gave her the power to try to be an expert to argue with trained physicians. The scene was more holistic about all the people who feel way too empowered by and believe random **** from some Google search.

The most amazing thing is that your post in response to a physician with extensive experience was as fanatical and ill informed as the mom was in that scene. You are Dr. Google.

Finished it last week. I'm a MICU doc. They certainly nailed some things like all the roles in the ED (med student resident social worker nurse attending etc). All the woke stuff was stupid- writers definitely had a checklist they wanted to get through by the end of the series. But the most ridiculous thing IMO was how personally offended the residents and attendings would get by situations. You can't spend a lot of effort convincing people of your way of thinking a) bc that's not your job (you inform but are not obliged to convince) and b) you end up wasting your time instead of using it on a more salvageable patient in the room next door.

Unless you've been in an ER recently, I really don't think that most people grasp how badly it's gotten lately with overcrowding, boarding, hallway medicine and long admit holds. The patient cases AND the administrative burdens this show represents really are accurate.

K but y'all have to admit certain things are ridiculous. In episode 1 the CMO shows up to talk to Robby about his Press Ganey scores...while he's running 2 simultaneous traumas. He is obliged to step out and acquiesce. That would never happen. When is the last time you saw your CMO in the ED

I don't think that was the CMO. I think it was just a hospital administrator that they pigeon holed into the story to show how administration sucks and gets in the way of patient care. Like I posted previously, it was almost as if they just had a whiteboard with controversial topics and made sure each one was included in an episode.
