I'm no fan of Phelan and his cabal, but I find it very 'pot calling kettle black' when Dan Patrick is talking about these guys level of stranglehold on the House bills. Casino gambling? Sports books? Cannabis legalization? I'm sure there's others.

Patrick does the EXACT same thing on issues that are clearly favored by the electorate. Overall, I like Patrick, but I wish we could get items placed on the ballot by petition like other states to get around legislative leaders who won't budge for whatever reasons they believe are justified when they are clearly working against what the majority of voters want.

But the one thing Patrick hasn't done is put Democrats in positions of leadership. Y'all need to realize that is simply unforgivable.

Vote hasn't started yet. Doing bunch of procedural stuff. I think it's starting soon after the current break.

Edit: actually, I think they are doing the official nomination part now.

It's very simple. Republicans should vote for the person that had a majority of the Republican caucus support for Speaker. That is David Cook and those are the rules that they all agreed to.

Does that apply to the US House as well or just Texas?

You're right. Agreed. Good. That's what you're supposed to do. I don't want Dems in positions of leadership either. Not even remotely suggesting I do.

Didn't mean to hijack, but my point is about DP criticizing them for doing what he does regularly.

You may actually be right, but if so, a lot of "Republicans" are serving their last legislative session. The beast has woken and will not go back to sleep.

Oddly enough, he considers the voters primarying those who don't represent them to be "vindictive".

No, what I consider vindictive is using billions in outside money to primary GOP members in local races who supported the party and platform 99.9% of the time. Because they voted with their conscience to impeach a slime ball like Paxton or they represented their constituents by not supporting vouchers, their own Gov/Lt Gov and hardliners in the party decided they were traitors.

Ronald Reagan once said "The person that agrees with you 80% of the time is a friend and an ally, not a 20% traitor."

LOL, that also applies in the reverse direction, doesn't it? The Gov didn't switch sides, he simply chose to support a different R in the primary that would support the 99.9% and the 0.1%.

Your guys are completely switching sides here! You don't have the high ground, hoss. You are either a school admin or a teacher and you don't give a darn about anything other than protecting a system that is completely broken.

I don't care about "high ground", nor am I your "Hoss" or a teacher/admin. I care about the Texas Constitution. If you don't like public Ed, then work to pass a constitutional amendment to get rid of it. But you know that would never pass and the attempt would be political suicide. If it's so broken, either work to fix it or pass a constitutional amendment. But don't try to subvert the constitution to start diverting public money to religious/private schools. There is school choice in Texas already, so utilize it if that's what you want. Just don't ask me to pay for your private school tuition.

The public school system will continue to exist. If vouchers are unconstitutional, then the courts can decide. I'm not asking you to pay for my private school tuition. I don't have any kids in school.

Is your spouse a teacher or admin? Any of your kids? You don't post here much except when the issue of school funding comes up. Then you are all in! No one is this passionate about an issue unless they have skin in the game.

Why are you so concerned about who I am and what I do? I post when I feel like it on a number of texags forums about a a bunch of different topics. I don't care what you do for a living and have never asked anyone on here what they do or what their kids/spouses do for a living. I'm passionate about a number of issues and I'm definitely not a single issue voter.

I happen to like Dade and completely despised the dirty campaign Covey and his cronies ran against him. I live in D21 and Dade has represented us well. Is he perfect? No, but neither is your rep.

I think Abbott/Patrick decided to play dirty in the primaries to try and get what they want (or what their mega billionaire donors want). I've been vocal about that a number of times. And I find it rich all the hand wringing going on now about the SOH. When you get down in the mud, you better expect to get dirty. Abbott was beating his chest about "having the votes" for vouchers after the election. Now Dade's side of the GOP may have found a loop hole to continue the opposition. At the end of the day, vouchers on some level will most likely be a reality. But it will be a fight.

Covey was absolutely honest in that campaign but Dade is a dirty crook. The lies were all from Phelan's side.

Hello again, Mr. Covey. Did you ever find those signs you accused me of stealing? We should get lunch one day out in Mauriceville.

Well, Mr. Phelan, you should show up at the party meetings in Mauriceville to explain why Republicans should vote with Democrats. When you're sober, of course.

LOL, will do.

They started chanting "Let the People In", but were shushed.

Those currently in control are cowards.

It's just going to result in more primary losses for Democrats like yourself in GOP districts until we purge the GOP of Democrats.

It's a deep red state and it's going to happen. Just a matter of time.

Democrats know they are going to lose.

Their best play is to poop in the lunch box of the eventual winner by voting for him and in so doing to ruin his rep among Forum 16 types.

They see the voting trends in Texas after 2024. They saw the blood letting GOP primaries last year. This is about trying to delay what they can for however long they can.

The delay will work. But it's just a delay.

You are literally supporting Democrats Phelan and Burrows, who are literally putting Democrats in positions of power.

So yes, you supported Democrats because you are supporting them now. If you don't want school choice that's fine. Valid position. But be honest about what you are willing to become to get it.

They're voting to have a big say in the control of the House. By voting for a dem-lite. No ethical republican will vote for Burrows.

Yeah, I don't like being betrayed by the party I voted into power.

We'll know soon enough what deals are being hatched with democrats

Make no mistake, there are ALOT of Republican politicians in Texas who are really democrats

Runoff between Burrows and Cook now? With the 23 Dems voting for a third candidate who now have to switch (almost all certainty to Burrows), sounds like it's a done deal?
