It is not possibe to socially engineer an occupation by selecting 1/2 of the applicants from 10% of the applicant pool and expecting that group to be as qualified as those chosen based on merit from the 90% pool. And I'll say it. It is compounded by the fact that the 90% is inherently better at the jobs that I was doing anyway. Women have no place there.

It is without question that my previous occupations would be 90% white males if it was based on pure merit. Lawyering not so much, but it would be almost entirely white at the elite law schools if based solely on merit. Like 98% white.

If you want people to not correctly assume this, you should be for entirely merit based recruiting, hiring, and promotions. Until then ...
To your first point, I think you are largely right. I do question, based on demographics in America (and Texas) today that you are probably wrong in paragraph 2 above. I am, however, strongly in favor of an entirely merit-based, color blind society that does away with racial and ethnic quota's/discrimination. "I have a dream" if you will, and I think it would also benefit….historically minority people.
It is possible that I am wrong today about federal LE recruitment raw applicant numbers, but I know that I am right about racial and gender preferences still in actual hiring and promotion. My best friend is a HSI Special Agent in Miami at the very tail end of his career and laments the status quo constantly. He is Asian and can't stomach the lack of meritocracy.

I know I am not wrong about law school admissions even today. It would be 90% plus whites and Asians at the T14 law schools with DEI and AA. Something like a dozen black males and maybe two dozen black females score a 170+ LSAT annually and there are around 4500 T14 spots annually.

It would be very noticeable to only have a three dozen blacks sprinkled amongst 4500 students. So not even 1 in 1000.

Then they get their own on-campus-interviews separate from whites to funnel them into the most coveted post-graduate legal positions.

It is a sham and whenever I meet one, I assume they didn't earn it.

If diversity hiring programs and quotas do not allow certain pilots or controllers to be hired with lower scores or experience why not make the data public? The FAA, NTSB, pilot and controller Unions, and the airlines have data on every safety incursion incident and accident. Why not release the data?

You'll never see it.

But we are done lowering standards and endangering others because your feelings might get hurt.

Maybe it's just a bad run for DEI boat and plane drivers as of late. Seems like we had a couple ship groundings and now this within the span of a couple months. Might take some more time to shake out. Problem is that over the past 4-years they got DEI people's confidence at an all time high.

In an operational environment, being over confident can be your worst enemy. Younger guys (and gals) hopped up on testosterone, piss and vinegar are invincible.

It tends to be the older guys who've seen some **** that tend to pump the brakes because they seen first hand what can go wrong and now trend more risk-adverse.

Accidents and disasters tend to be theoretical until you get enough miles under you to where they're not.

Sad to say that this has been the norm since '94 when Kara Holtgreen lost control of her Tomcat and rolled into the ocean. That incident ruined Military Aviation for women forever, especially since nothing was learned from it. To this day, AA proponents blame the crash on a "design flaw" with the F-14, rather than the consistent pattern of weakness shown by her training records, and IP complaints that she was being pushed through the pipeline by overzealous superiors in an arms race to get a female into the cockpit of a fighter jet.

Continue pushing intersectional box checking and this attitude will persist, to the detriment of those women who legitimately have the right stuff.

Swiss cheese model. Looks to start with the command the aircrew was under. No reason a training aircraft should have miscalibrated altimeters.

he pilot in command of the Delta plane crash at Toronto International Airport received her pilot license only one month ago.

If it is the right pilot, tht means she got her ATP a month ago, and could have had 1500 hours of total time, 500 of turbine time. Along the way, she would have received her student pilot, private pilot, and commercial pilot licenses. She would have added on ratings for multi-engine and instrument flight. She would have a type rating for that aircraft.

1,500 hours for ATP done via part 61, 1,000 hours for restricted ATP done thru part 141 school or 750 hours for restricted ATP thru military training.

Most importantly, she was proper licensed to be flying the aircraft. However, her more limited experience is why she was flying that seat in a regional.

Finally, hours can vary greatly in aviation. Skills developed flying military training flights can be very different from going around and around the same pattern at an uncontrolled airport at 110 knots or flying/building hours in heavily congested class B in constant contact with controllers and dealing with traffic going at great speeds.

When a crisis occurs, pilots immediately revert to their training….which is generally a great thing. But, occasionally it is a bad thing because for the same emergency what is drilled into your head for a military aircraft can be different vs a civilian aircraft due to significant design differences….not to mention the affect on 100 souls seated behind you. Usually, a type rating isn't enough to overcome years of contrary training.

At the end of the day, the FAA and her airline had determined she was competent to perform the tasks she had been assigned.

This was my first thought from the early reports . The chopper was not supposed to be at that altitude in that space .
