Another self-righteous speech by JD Vance who continues to embarrass himself and America. Lecturing others in Europe, while not bringing up Russia or even the European country of Hungary who censors nonstop and jails opponents. And this after his "normalize Indian hate" defense last week about hiring racist employees who tweeted it just months ago. The guy is such a hypocrite on foreign policy too.

Exactly. Dgaf what they think. This wasn't a plea for friendship or consensuss. It was a warning. They now know our position. If they keep the current course, then we can take the next step on our own...
Right on. When you're the baddest mother****er on the block, you don't have to worry about making friends. The freeloaders and simps need to hear the truth. It doesn't matter if they don't like it.

In spite of liberals trying to tear us down, we're still the baddest mother****ers.

This is the dumbest sht I've ever heard, and every normal Republican of the past would tell you that. You need tons of allies.

I'm glad JD went soft with the eyeliner today at least.

Oh look. Zoo poster gets lost and and starts sh/t talking the grown ups

So it's embarrassing to your minority of Americans to have a VP making a principled stand for freedom of speech and association vs y'alls VP who wanted to explain what Ukraine is, how cool space is, and how school buses are yellow. Got it. Keep being embarrassed - you are like the frustrated preteen upset at the kids table. You were at the adults table but kicked off. Stay seated and enjoy your dinonuggets. We are fixing what the charade (based on the sham USAID) western "liberalism" did to the west. A majority of Americans are proud and even 30% of D approve of Trump in these first few weeks.

Huh? Get out more.

"Normal Republican?" What's that? Are those the people who have been silent while the American taxpayer has been robbed blind to the tune of trillions? The people who have been sending billions to Ukraine so they can get their cut?

So Vance pissed off the Europeans today and Trump pissed off the BRICS nations. They represent more than 1/2 the world's populations and approximately 62 percent of our international trade. Personally, I love visiting Europe and Brazil. I'd love to visit Indonesia. I remember when Republicans like Ronald Reagan were conservatives and extolled the virtues of free trade.

We're being undermined from within.

Mr Pistorius' limp-wristed government is about to be out on the sidewalk anyway, so whether he thinks the VP's remarks are acceptable or not is so much bloviating on his part.

We emasculated the German military after WWII ("we" meaning the Western Allies). A reasonable response to their activities of the first 45 years of the 20th century, but our taking them on as a ward child after 1949 has turned Germany into a nation of bedwetters. They will not defend themselves. If attacked today, the Bundeswehr couldn't put a fully equipped, fully trained, battle-ready battalion into the field. But they're sure ready to preach to us about what we ought to do and say.

I almost wish the gods of geography could switch the global positions of Germany and Poland. Put the Germans next to the Russians and let them take the beating if they want. The Poles have balls, and a military to match.

Qualifier: I am half-German. My grandfather served in the Imperial Army under Wilhelm II before the family emigrated to America in the 1890's (my father was born in America). It gives me no pleasure to call the Germans out, but they need some tough love in the worst way.

Hmm. Very interesting. What do you have to say of the postulate that its possible things might have been better with a Wilhelmine Europe, that side winning World War I, as might avoid the spread of Marxism? The character of Wilhelmine Germany seems as sound as their foes. Its not like WW II. You also probably have the Ottoman Empire making a more gradual but successful transition to a modern state rather than the Middle East becoming what it is.

This wasn't a wake up call though. Not even close. This was a weird speech and honestly, tangent to me that was not the focus of everyone else there. Though there are other senators there to maybe hone in on specifics perhaps.

Just seemed tone deaf as all hell to me. Again, not a wake up call. A man speaking to a room who wasn't listening to him more like from what I could read.

Meh. I watched the whole thing live and it's the first time I feel like I he completely missed the mark of the forum. This was a sub par speech IMO and was all over the damn place and felt more like a campaign speech here in the US than a European security conference.

The only thing I felt like had true merit was the dangers of unfettered open immigration but it was a sub point that lasted a few minutes at best.

Just a very weird speech and honestly, felt like it was meant just for the GOP base here stateside. Which I know will be eaten up here but just felt largely out of place to me. Just my coupla cents though. Usually impressed with his stances and bearing but again, this just felt like an unorganized mess, given the forum he was at. And that Musk joke was awful and I winced when it fell so flat.

I didn't watch the entire thing, but that 3 minute clip, I find very on points and very scary…. I would hope warnings would be given to other "freedom spouting" countries about those dire infringements. It is frightening to see a country threatening the right to pray in your own home…. to pray silently in a certain area. I think it's on point.

That's really the only frustrating thing to me about his speech here, namely that he doesn't seem to grasp, at all, 'our' culpability in their speech laws across Europe. The CIA/USAID meddling has been very damaging over in particular the past 10 years to European rights/freedoms, in the objective to 'protect democracy from populists' essentially.

The irony of the new administration now lecturing them about their situation is thus somewhat…well, humorous, I guess, given that their ruling class is obviously not angry about that meddling/outcome in their current status quo.

Exactly. That is just what happens --- few have the slightest clue of the transitions both during and after WW I that not long after coalesced to make something like WW II inevitable. The later term `Comintern' of the Cold War also is useful for describing a Marxist push in Europe after WW One. For a while, it wasn't certain which governments would fall to it and this created much (justified as now) paranoia concern about where communism can lead. But all that is a product of the outcome of the war.

But the outcome of that first world war is not so clear-cut --- it was not a freedom-vs-slavery type of paradigm risk like both WW II and the true WW III the Cold War were. (I know that is what many call the present risk, but good argument can be made that it is WW IV that some are trying to avoid now. Even think it will be fought more like WW One -- corrupt similar governments using up their citizenry. )

Did he lie? Did he tell half truths? His Greta joke might've fallen flat but it was because of the audience not because it wasn't the truth. Keep worshipping your 12 year old climate heroines and your David Hoggs. Good for you.
You have no idea who I am or what I support. But sure there noob. Keep playing with your keyboard like it's the first time disagreeing with someone.

If anything, this is why I am disappointed in his speech. It is uncharacteristic to me. I was watching it live with a chat feed open and someone said something that stuck out to me. "It's like he doesn't want to be there". I don't know. Not a body language expert or anything but just struck me as off and even damn near rambling at times. Several times even I was like, "Huh?" and that is surprising as I usually think of him as very articulate.
This might be skewing your opinion. If that chat was full of security professionals, your perspective would probably be different.

It was an excellent speech and needed to be said.

I only scanned the chat afterwards. My opinions were formed way before then. And it was from the .gov site so no idea of the makeup of watchers.

And I simply don't think it was a good speech. I stated that in the beginning knowing I would get my head caved in but that's ok. It felt disjointed and out of place. I have no issue with the points, just the timing of it. It's like your house is on fire and you are hurriedly asking your neighbor for help and then just languish there lecturing on the importance on having fire insurance. Everyone's focus was on the very real crisis ongoing and what the ever loving hell the USA's position is going to be because up to that point, it was clear as mud. So many conflicting messages from the admin right now from all levels. Is it 6D chess? I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not.

My friend in Germany sent me this message shortly after Vances speech.

Quote:

Please don't believe a word Vance said in Germany. The ones who do not tolerate freedom of speech are the very people he endorses (which frankly is none of his business), the AfD. And migration is not "out of control". This is all heading in a very troubling direction. I'm sad and frightened.

Interning his perspective is the far right are the ones doing the censoring where we have seen her and in the UK that it is the left that does this while accusing the right of misinformation.
He also doesn't see immigration as an issue. Instead it is things like inflation, education, and infrastructure that need to be addressed first. I however don't see how you can address those issues when you have more people coming into the country than you can deal with as it directly affects these issues.

I like free trade too. But it has to be reciprocal. If it isn't then you're just a sucker. Even worse is when you out source lots of key sectors like oh say pharmaceutical or chip manufacturing so you can be held hostage or poisoned by foreign actors.
