The thing about the SDNY is that it is much more autonomous from Main Justice than any other US Attorney's offices. And that manifests in a variety of ways. They don't have to outright defy Main Justice but they don't feel the need to be forthcoming, either.

That whole thing in October 2016 when Weiner's laptop having Hillary's classified material on it wasn't the SDNY giving Comey the heads up. It was both NYPD and the NY FBI Field office threatening to leak to the press if Comey did not acknowledge it. So Comey did and then promptly buried it.

ETA: Further, for all we know, Epstein could have been an FBI CHS off and on over the years. And there would be multiple thick files in that case.

Two more weeks to flatten the redactions.

I still keep wondering whether this entire disclosure so far is just a "flood the zone" type tactic at this point. Those that know, pretty much know already...we may not have all the names and the details, but much of what Epstein was doing is already out there. An intelligence (Mossad or Mossad/CIA) honeypot.

None. So contempt of Congress is as bad as it gets.

No real judge nor even the most independent DOJ is going to hold someone to an arbitrary deadline, particularly when law included no punitive measures, the respondent is actively complying, the reasons for non compliance are valid, and requiring immediate compliance results in breaking a multitude of other laws.

But no one wants to pay any attention to that. Just Bondi is covering up for pedo Trump.

Or it was actionable and verifiable and thus valuable to them so they wanted to keep that gravy train going? When the Snowden stuff was coming out, the way the CIA "recruited" assets was to get dirt on them and then blackmail them into cooperation.

No but then we wouldn't would we? Epstein worked at Bear Stearns in the department that dealt almost exclusively with the old BCCI which was a financing front for intelligence agencies (and some arms dealers) in several different countries.

That seldom mentioned connection shows he easily would have had access and thus contact. Your mention of Iran Contra may be closer to the mark than we think. And then there was the Barry Seal connection in Mena, which could have easily roped Bill Clinton onto Epstein's radar.

The bigger irony will be Patel getting put in prison for lying to congress when 1 he made a career out of releasing the files and 2 given the fact they this administration couldn't even convict Comey.

I have not spent much time on the intelligence ties admittedly as much of it comes across as sort of happenstance v grand conspiracy. But as said, I would not have my feelings hurt to be surprised on it being more.

I also think it runs somewhat against him being a pedo arranger. Do you want the guy handling these deals to be himself compromised by his taste for the young, oft underage and sometimes unwilling?

Epstein had a thing for making connections then leveraging them to the max. So he gets the job at the school, then uses the parents of a student along with a fake resume to get a job at Bear Stern's, ultimately dating the top guy's daughter which kept him out of serious heat when his time was up at Bear's. Those guys, for whatever reason, were willing to look past his loose cannon ways to keep his connections going and growing.

I admit it all sounds juicy. It just doesn't come across as solidly plausible to me. Some folks at the 3-letter agencies were engaging in some serious risk if they worked Epstein to the purported extent and for the length of time from both of those angles (add in a 3rd for international weaponry).
