So, to me, 10% seems reasonable. I would say that 7% is probably a "rock bottom" lower bound.

The 4%-7% seems high to me but reasonable. Appreciate your perspective and explanation.

I should have phrased my original assertion better. Perhaps...around 10% of 20-30 yr old women HAVE HAD an OnlyFans account.

In any case, more than many parents would suspect. If we looked at coeds, it would almost certainly skew higher.

Speaking of Star Wars, that's an example of what said earlier about fan videos.

They do far more better and accurate seeming sequences of the star battles and great vessels than the latest Disney stuff at $$ millions. (Andor excepted)

Btw, there is at least one GEICO commercial I am convinced the brunette in is AI and maybe even the whole restaurant bar. Usually the setting and `cast' look real.

Boy, that's true. Some of the Star Wars content I've seen is incredible and superior to anything Lucas or Disney has done. You watch and wonder why in the world sci-fi movies just wouldn't go 95% AI from here forward. Production costs practically free and profit margins skyrocket.

Have you seen the one with the extended Death Star fight between Obi Wan and Vader? That one is incredible.

Interesting. I was in the midst at writing an OP on just this subject, and got distracted by the porn.

Perhaps in a few days.

Women better learn to cook and clean again. Starting with the 30 year and above divorced ones. Soon men won't have much reason to have them around.

Seeing as how more women are college-educated and are perfectly fine being single, it might be the other way around - women will have even less reason to have men around.

OR, can return to or create a modification of the past where sex between the spouses wasn't really the motive or incentive for marriages. They existed without that being the primary thing, because that could be gotten elsewhere and often was in the double standard days.

Don't misunderstand. Sex was always important, but it wasn't the reason men got married, because they could get it anyway. That's why such heavy taboos had to be placed against it.

And yes, governments could even incentivize and reward household building.

On the plus if porn is AI then no one is being trafficked or exploited to make it

Exactly my point. 10% of women having accounts on OnlyFans is a lot of women, damaged in a lot of ways. If this removes the exploitation part, that is a net benefit. IMO.

I realize many here are very anti-porn, but the truth is porn has always been around. E.g., there was so much erotica art and "toys" discovered in reclaiming Pompeii, archeologists invented a new word.

Pornography.

Greece fell.

Rome fell.

Porn rots your brain, it is a destructively vile addiction that destroys peoples lives.

They are doing this because it is a guaranteed money maker. The porn industry was pushing the envelope of video streaming and e-commerce in the early days of the internet. This is just the next step in the evolution of the porn industry.

Porn enabled VHS to beat out Betamax, maybe Sam is expecting it to choose the winner in the AI battle as well

Really? How can having one spool vs two in a tape have made such a difference? (Not familiar with the tale's particulars)

Like others have said, could reduce exploitation, but still very disturbing

And it will take the government years to update the laws about it.

Same thing happened when the Internet first became a thing. Digital images of kiddie porn were legal for a while because the law only covered physical media and transmission via the mail. Congress eventually updated the laws as did the states.

Prof of mine used that as an example of how government is always so far behind technology.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

The claim is that the porn industry adopted vhs and thus the money/sells fell in line behind vhs to tip the scales in that technology war to make vhs become ubiquitous. it is not arguing about the tech itself, but about the adoption of such tech by a large number of people to make it be the baseline of the time period.

People are going to create content of themselves with any woman in the world (real or imagined) they desire at that moment.

Wow, really bad for potential addictiveness/anti-social behavior, imo.

I assume there would be guardrails in place that prevent that type of behavior...perhaps limitations on adult content generated from real photos?

But I agree, this is horrible all the way around.

The trick would be in determine what is a real photo? Today there already are some guardrails on modifying real photos. These are simply defeated by telling the image generator to modify "this AI generated image" instead of telling it to modify "an image".

As others have said, the benefit here is that no one will be trafficked or exploited to produce content.

My fear is that it will actually amplify the negative effects of porn on the consumers because it will result in a lot more extreme content and further perpetuate the illusion that women aren't real. And it gives addicts even more of a justification to consume more or to not abstain because "it's not hurting anyone." I think this ultimately leads to more destroyed relationships and potentially violence against women and children.

AI is already rotting our brains. This will not help.

Only the truly unusual and adventurous wanted the `actual' of going out into space and serving in Star Fleet. It made alot of sense. A society like that would not necessarily have a high overhead.

Well, maybe TexAgs' moderators won't be so heavy handed; otherwise, they just might find themselves in an AI-generated beastiality porn clip!!!

Hey Mods: I'm 100% joking!

Truthfully, I think this is reprehensible if there isn't advanced consent & foresee a LOT of Copyright lawsuits in the pipeline. Still, I don't care if anyone uses my likeliness to create such; hell, I'd be more amused than upset, but may God have mercy on anyone that creates ANYTHING involving my 13 yr-old son!! Although I'm an attorney, I will absolutely forego a lawsuit & instead tap into my Comanche heritage to torture an offender in ways that'd make Comanches, the Cartel, &/or ISIS nauseous!!!

exactly, no one wants to talk about the amount of electricity these data centers need and the environment...but every large manu., college, airline, etc. are all in on "reducing their carbon footprint".

China could cut their carbon emissions* 50% in 2026 and AI and data centers would just say "hold my beer".

* FTR, the carbon footprint stuff is crap as far as I'm concerned. The amount of trash and emissions (actual harmful waste gas) India and China dump into the environment is the problem we should be looking at. But no one can make any money off that so it's ignored.

Thats exactly where we are headed. Its the solution to automation putting people out of work and being able to live on "minimum wage" or a UBI. It's already happening with at home streaming, video games, social media, etc.

It WILL create a class based society - those that can be happy with living a mostly virtual life, and those that can't (or won't).

The longer the video clip, the greater the power needed in any unit of time.

The relationship is quadratic (squares) as opposed to worst case (exponential), but still, longer videos suck power.

The big problem is continuity - having characters, props and backdrops stay consistent as the scene progresses, esp. with different camera angles.

AI companies are working on this, but a real problem with current tech.

Excellent tie-in. Very much inclined to agree. In fact, it will also play into age a bit too. Have noticed these days that one of the things that make the growing "deprovement" more endurable or at least a trade-off, is the quality of what can be done remotely. Its even more noticeable with olds --- you can't move around much anyway, but more than ever some considerable interaction and even creating content like writing or commentary on matters is possible.

You mention UBI. The other place this impacts is the dollars ceiling. It doesn't cut off access to things as much as it used to, but the problem is it is still second hand. Yes, you can now truly tour a place accurately without ever going there, but its still not real with the intangibles that would have. Now for anlaysis, its great because the sounds, scents, etc, don't matter as much.

So when he came up with this interpretation, thought, you know that rings pretty true. If you think of how many just become "lost and feeling useless" in retirement because they didn't have any individual pursuit/interest it makes sense a large number of Federation citizenry just live that way. The whole idea of having some unique call or task is actually not that common.

Certainly are not in the ranks of those who rule out UBI on feasibility grounds. We are approaching a future where no one will even know if something is working or not so there won't be much difference in whether it is practical or not.
