Seeing this making the rounds. No reason to think its fake, but never know these days.

I forget the flight number... But that's reminiscent of an American Airlines flight years ago. The plane had come out of a significant engine overhaul and the mechanics were not following proper procedures to install the engine. I'm that car though when it ripped free it flipped up and over the wing.

What was crucial though was that it completely destroyed numerous hydraulic sirens that were required for flight.

Can you get any lift if the hydrolics of 1 wing are done for? That is more than an engine failure, that thing ejected itself from the plane. That had to of damaged that wing severely. It looks like the runway is elevated and thats all the height the plane had before hitting trees/buildings with its tail and rolling in the air to its left.

If the complete loss of the engine from the wing is correct and is sudden, you would get a hell of a yaw moment as is shown in this video. Amplified if there is a loss of control surfaces. Prayers out to all of the folks this will affect.

**Edit, after watching it again I think they lost the whole damn wing. That is probably what gouged a rut in the building shown earlier, damn. The yaw rotated the port wing down and it impacted the building first.**

New press conference:

Impacted of 3 miles south of the end of the runway. (That seems kind of long.)

4 fatalities (3 from the aircraft)

All departures canceled for the night, but one runway is open if needed.

Asking people to not touch or take debris but report it to law enforcement.

Everything else was just local stuff, not about the crash itself.

Next press conference at 10:30PM.

Heinous. I think about this a lot with airports like alive Field and DFW here in Dallas and obviously so many others in big cities (JFK, Ohare, etc.) a plane that fails to get airborne or had a fatal error while landing, right above highly congested areas.

Wrong it only needs 2 of 3 to take off even fully loaded.

However, as others have stated its failure was catastrophic enough that it caused other critical damages in either control or flight surfaces or both.

That's what happened to AA 191. At first, they thought a bolt broke and the engine separated from the aircraft. Then, they realized, no, that the entire pylon gave way (the engine went up and over the wing) and that was due to improper maintenance. However, just losing the engine didn't doom the plane. Why couldn't the pilots fly out of it?

They realized the physical loss of the engine caused hydraulic lines to sever, which included the stick shaker/stall warning system. The pilots were trained to gain altitude in an emergency situation in a takeout and, without the stick shaker, didn't know the plane was stalling. Instead of lift, they needed to apply power. They ran simulations of the takeoff conditions, first letting the stall warning go and later turning it off. With the stall warnings on, everyone landed the plane safely; with it off, they all crashed.

However, even with all that, the flaps/slats were stuck due to hydraulic fluid loss and its unlikely the plane was recoverable. I don't remember if the simulations were done before or after they discovered the status of the slats.

Dang, looks like the loss of the port engine shot FOD into the #2 engine. (Notice the flame at the rear). Poor crew was in a no win situation.

It turned out that yes Continental lost the piece, it was Concord's fault for not reinforcing the fuselage that cause the fire that doomed the flight.

Please remember that there are folks on this board who will be very close to this (As in - most likely know the pilots close)

Let's try to keep the comments and speculation a little more on the rails than we did with the Air India 787 crash thread.

Thanks and Gig 'Em!

This is rather ominous. Please tell me it was not a poster on this board or an AG. It is really horrible whomever it was, but man I sure hope it was not "one of us."

It's not our poster, he flies 747s. Even visited me in Sydney once.

But, these are his colleagues.

I lost one of my direct reports in a small plane crash 2 years ago in Arizona.

Notifying my other direct reports about the loss was tough and we're just IT nerds, not aviators.

Just a heads up. The AI videos are starting to show up on social media.

So far they're obviously fake, but they're going to keep showing up and there will be undoubtedly some that are hard to quickly spot as AI.

All I can say is Tailwinds to 3 pilots who I am sure fought and struggled to the bitter end ….

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Starting to have some eerie similarities to AA191. Reports are that it was in maintenance for over a month until a few weeks ago. Then has had several flights. Pretty much exactly what the plane in Chicago had.

Two businesses close to the airport were hit by the plane crash: Kentucky Petroleum Recycling and Grade A Auto Parts, which is an auto-salvage yard.

Grade A Auto Parts said all but two employees were accounted for, and that it is unsure how many customers might have been at the scene. The nearby Ford Motor assembly plant, which employs thousands of workers, wasn't hit but lost power for some time.

AA191 didn't happen until almost 2 months after the screwed up engine maintenance damaged the pylon.
