It has to do with your ability to affect others to get your desired result.

Trump spent ZERO on this.

There isn't a person on the Hill or in some business somewhere that will say "Well, I would have helped you last week, but I can't now because of that name change!"

It feels a little like when someone tries to give themselves their own nickname....and I think we know how that generally works out haha.

All kidding aside, naming a building after oneself is a really weird thing, regardless of whether it's politics, football stadiums, campus buildings.

I'd prefer they just shut it down, bulldoze it and save the taxpayer money.

And yet, so many building on A&M's (and most colleges) campus are just that. "I'll give you $15M to put my name on the building."

How many Premium subs on TexAgs have a computer named after them in the Athletic facility?!

How much of Trumps own money is he putting up for the naming rights?

Trump has grown so tiresome. We get great CPI news this morning, thanks Trump, and then this afternoon he's back to doing dumb ****.

I'm going to vote for the Republican no matter what just like most of you. But when he does stupid stuff like this it only serves to make MAGA foam at the mouth and piss off the squishy middle that is swayed each election.

Is he giving his own money for this? If so, then I don't care about changing the name TBH.

Trump didn't do anything regarding the naming of the Trump-Kennedy Center. It was a unanimous vote by an independent board.

Trump was working in the office on rescheduling marijuana, establishing the Patriot Games, and more.

At this point, I'd rather not have your vote at all. But to be honest, I cease believing people when they say
I voted xyz, but...".
Trump appointed the board that turned right back around and made him chairman. Plus he has a known history of demanding loyalty. It's not a surprise that they did this for him as a gift, but it's also not a stretch to think he suggested it to them.

I'm pretty sure the Kennedy Center was given that name by Congress. Trump can call it what he wants but he can't change the name.

I would think the independent board can change the name.

But surely a judge will declare it unconstitutional.

It's not an independent board - they serve at the pleasure of the president, and he canned the director and the whole board earlier this year and replaced them with his people, who then reciprocated by making him the chairman.

As far as the legality, I'm seeing that the name is established by an act of Congress, and will take an act of Congress to change. This appears to be a symbolic and secondary name like the "Department of War" thing, at least for now.

The board consists of more than Trump appointees per my understanding. Though I have to be honest I don't care about the board, the center or whatever they call it.

I just think its humorous, and quite frankly ******ed, that people think Trump made some massive effort to rename the center for himself.

Like the Reiner tweet, it brings the TDS sufferers out in full force and gave me some much needed entertainment.

Meanwhile, Trump is providing fed workers with a great Christmas break, establishing the Patriot Games, rescheduling marijuana, signing in a new NASA administrator and making a commitment to go back to the moon by end of his term.

But people really think he gave two ****s today about what the Kennedy cultural center is named. That is comical.

I have this strange theory about politics.....it should be possible to do great things (which Trump has done) and also behave like a mature adult (no comment here).

Yeah, I know.....I'm a fool for expecting that. No need to point it out. I'll walk myself out.

He fired the existing board, installed himself as chairman, stacked it with cabinet members and loyalists, posted about "the new TRUMP KENNEDY, whoops, I mean KENNEDY CENTER" back in October, and then claimed to be "surprised" when they voted to put his name on it. I'm sure he's totally indifferent to the whole thing.

Republicans were quite happy with the Bushes at the time, and they generally acted with dignity.

It's only in the MAGA era that the Bush years started being remembered less fondly.

And certainly Reagan is and was loved by many, acted quite dignified.

It's really only a Trump thing. Where he swings around like a wrecking ball to the government, the country, and decorum.

This is absolutely deserved. Good for Trump for taking the time to save this institution.
Quote:

"Not only from the standpoint of its reconstruction, but also financially, and its reputation," Leavitt continued. "Congratulations to President Donald J. Trump, and likewise, congratulations to President Kennedy, because this will be a truly great team long into the future! The building will no doubt attain new levels of success and grandeur."

The renaming is presented by the board as reflecting "unequivocal bipartisan support" for America's cultural center into the future and follows nearly a year of substantial changes.

In a February Truth Social post, Trump stated that he intended to make the Kennedy Center "GREAT AGAIN," announcing that he had terminated several members of the Board of Trustees who, in his words, "do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture." He criticized drag shows "specifically targeting our youth," declaring, "THIS WILL STOP," and described the Kennedy Center as "an American Jewel" that "must reflect the brightest STARS on its stage."

The Kennedy Center broke an all-time attendance record for a public event in March 2025 with its "EARTH to SPACE: Arts Breaking the Sky" fireworks show, which drew over 11,000 attendees. A Kennedy Center representative stated that 76% of those who attended had never visited the venue before. The event was open to the public and featured a 360-degree rooftop view and interactive experiences.

It's disgusting what the left was doing not only with this, but the national archives, Smithsonian etc. Just a small, but visible part of making America Great Again.

Most of your posting isn't about platforms, issues, etc. it's about Trump - either hyping him or defending him. Even your analogy above was comparing pro/anti Trump to Allies vs Axis and literally good vs evil. These are your own words.

And I never said I view my wife as an idol. I said I've devoted my life to her.

And I'm not even blue. I'm just clear-eyed. You just can't see it with your orange-colored glasses on.

Good versus evil is not about platforms / issues? Are you serious with that?

Thats all its about. Trump represents the platforms and issues I care about, things I want to see changed in this Country. You should reconsider your dislike of him because he is actually standing up for your right to even utter the words Jesus Christ in public.

The other side? Their platforms and issues AND their leaders want the opposite.

You introduced the word idolatry. I just pointed out how inappropriate the term was deployed by you. Thanks for confirming that.
