Yes, the Kennedy clan and Shiver especially are outraged. I for one think he should get it renamed just as he leaves office to the Mary Jo Kopechne Center for the Performing Arts.

This is a very good explanation. I too am on the board of a non-profit arts group. The current economic environment for arts groups is bad. Generally there is a generational shift happening in how people buy tickets and attend performances. Let me assure you the board of the Kennedy Center would do way more than adding his name to a building for that lifeline. Also, like him or hate him, Trump is connected to high net worth people and that is what the board wants access to. They have no choice. Operating a place like the Kennedy Center is exquisitely expensive. If Symphony halls were profitable, BlackRock would be rolling them out in every suburb. But they aren't. Do the math. They need Trump WAY more than he needs them. Rest assured that even the NY Philharmonic relies on donor and endowment money for their annual OpEx budget.
