Since I was 6 years old, I have walked away from stressful situations. I was invited to a birthday party by one of the girls in my class. I find it ironic that what I asked for (comments and feedback) that I didn't get last Sunday (20 comments) now becomes over 150 comments and 5 pages of it.

I will say it again - I am not looking for attention or adulation. The comments I receive (great job, rocky, et. al.) are great...they keep the thread active on the page. What I really am asking for is feedback - which memes made you laugh? Which were your favorites? I get that occasionally, but just 20 comments? Hello? Is this mike working? I can't hear laughter on this thread. I want to know if I'm connecting. Is that such a crime?????

The number of responses don't tell me anything. As far as I know, 2500 responses could mean 2500 "meh"s. I don't know. That's why I need feedback. Any performer (and that's what this is) wants to hear from his/her audience. Can you imagine a speaker, a comic, a singer who performs in an audience of 2500 and only 20 show up? With stars, maybe 85 or so. That's how it feels. So, if it's cringy to you, that's your problem, not mine.
And when the star count drops, it tells me, rightly or wrongly, that I didn't do as well as other threads that got well over 100.

But, for all the work I put into this, the 'reward' isn't worth the effort. Sorry if that offends some of you. Maybe you're the ones whose panties are in a wad.

Your metaphor is faulty. As someone who goes to see stand-up comedy at least once a month, I promise you at the end of the show there isn't a line of people at the end of the show telling the comic which jokes work and which ones bomb. They receive that feedback in real time during the set via laughter. Sometimes they'll have the notebook with them on stage and will make quick notes in real time. You can actually periodically see Michael Che do this on Weekend Update in SNL. That's all you can expect of an audience.

The problem with the "Funnies" threads is you essentially post one giant punchline with only one opportunity for the audience to laugh. That's not on your audience, that's on you. If you care that much, you should be going through your posts where you post a single meme and figure out via stars which memes are preferred.

I am about the same age as rocky and we have a lot in common. I knew he was a cartoonist as was The Hubs, among with the Ags and such.

This week has been a bit unnerving for me and I strongly suspect, for him. The thread about user profiles and stars singled us both out, among others. Then the POTD thread again singled us out.

Attention is not the same as validation. Now rocky and I have different purposes for doing what we do on this forum. His is nailing a certain zeitgeist in very current humor. That's a resonating meme purpose. The demos of this forum are changing. Us old farts, have a certain frame of reference that is completely foreign to younger poster. (And usually are just less civil and meaner, too boot.)

Me? I'm a retired lawyer. I want to win arguments. (Ask The Hubs. Second thought, don't.) And over the last several years over multiple topics and multiple threads I have been absolutely nails far more often than I whiffed. And when I do make mistakes, I stand corrected and acknowledge them. So giving me stars is nice, I guess. As is when I run off a wannabe lawyer who tries to argue with me, leaves and comes back with a new username is a capitulation, I suppose. Different type of validation.

Here's the bottom line, Ags. He is asking for help from fellow Ags. And what do we normally do in that situation?

We care enough to offer it. Or is that also now Old Army?

I am attempting to quit Texags and posts such as the Sunday Funnies take up entirely too much of my time on this site. Now that football has been eliminated for the year and baseball is a work in progress, I will find it much more realistic to quit wasting time on this site. The only obstacle was that damn Sunday Funnies. Now that this is gone, there is nothing to foil my plan to get off of this site. I just need to see my Celebrity Death match 2025 come to an end and then my plan will be put into place. Certainly no UAP threads or horn meltdowns will draw me back in this time!!!!

I wonder if this is the reason Gary Larson quit doing the Far Side and/or Bill Watterson quit on Calvin & Hobbes, especially when they had to come up with original material. Probably not...

But if you feel lacking with feedback, consider that you're averaging just under 20 blue stars per post. No offense, but that seems like some solid feedback and/or validation from a specific fanbase oriented internet forum. Love your work, but it's not all that unusual to not get positive or any feedback at all no matter how great your contributions may be. I've stopped replying to certain posters on this very thread when they don't even bother to acknowledge a reply that I spent some time researching on their behalf. People are just like that.

Do it for yourself or don't do it at all.

Social media in a nutshell, I hate to admit it, but TA falls into that category too. Doesn't matter whether we are the OMG teenager, or the get off my lawn old man, we can fall into the same trap.

Maybe try moving to a monthly funnies thread? If you still aren't enjoying it, try something else that brings you joy with your time. Otherwise thank you for the laughs and best wishes.

Love what you do every week, Rocky! It's become a bit of a tradition that my wife and I enjoy on Sundays together. There's nothing better than slowly reading a few, and then...bam! I can't stop laughing because that one meme or joke was the funniest thing I'd heard in a week, but mostly because I read your post last week.

It's the only article on TexAgs my wife asks about. She'll say, "Hey, are there any Sunday funnies this week?" In fact, we just got done laughing ourselves silly from your latest edition.
