I guess you gotta give the people what they want! Trump making all the cold war wrongs right.
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

The government there is certainly in a weakened state due to the oil restrictions. I think it's only a matter of time.

They have to have taken heart that this time it's different. Venezuela, Iran, now Cuba. Donald Trump is helping people fight back against their oppressive regimes!

I was in Little Havana in Miami in November and the Cubans there are desperate to go back. It is not that they do not like living in America, but they love Cuba so much. These are people who love capitalism and the American way of life. I could see the tourism industry booming quickly after a regime change.

The romanticism of Cuba is so bizzare to me, from both sides of the aisle.

The current iteration of the Cuba some of you fantasize about is already there-- the Dominican Republic (hotels, casinos, beaches, cigars, and rum) and very capitalistic. And it's no where near a developed country, and has a massive diaspora here in the States.

I hope for a free Cuba, because it deserves to be free of communism. But some of you have an odd impression of their current generation because Miami Cubans are the equivalent of Tejanos in Texas. Venture into Southwest Houston, now probably the largest Cuban community in Texas. You'll get a picture of what the current Cuban culture is more like. It may shock you to learn, they came through the border within the last 4 or 5 years, and aren't exactly like your Little Havanna trip.

I think everyone is biased by their own anecdotal experiences in life - and you yourself are no different. What's bizarre is being a hypocrite about it.

I'm not sure how highlighting a different segment of a community makes me a hypocrite. If anything, assuming all Cubans are exactly like those in Little Havana is the bias I'm trying to check.

You're ignoring the 400k or so who arrived from the last 3 years, mostly from the border, because it's convenient. I've been to Little Havana and I'm in Gulfton/Sharpstown from time to time. Nothing bias to see the generational and cultural gap between the old gaurd in Miami, and what's here.

Assuming all Cubans are exactly like those in Little Havana or in Gulfton/Sharpstown is also a generalization. Little Havana is not an accurate depiction of Cubans either. If anything, it is more of a historical area than anything else at this point. You are definitely correct about the border though. Cubans are crossing the border in their search for freedom. There is a Cuban restaurant in Cypress, and the owner had five or six failed attempts at entering the US via Florida. He then made it to Mexico and crossed the border.

From what I have read Cuba got most of it's oil from Venezuela which is now not happening. They supposedly only have a couple of weeks of reserves.

So when the lights go out and the gasoline stops pumping the Cuban Govt is going to have a YUGE Problem.

All Trump has to say to the Cuban Population is that we will send Cuba Oil & Gas when they get a new Govt.

The U.S. may not have to even fire a shot or drop a bomb.

Trends from different generations and experiences shape a community. The same way Boomers aren't like Zers. Thats almost a daily debate on here. I didn't say the Sharpstown community is a monolith either, only that there is a difference netween the different age gaps over there and here. That's an over generalization or anecdote?

Venezualans searched for freedom too, but Colombia and Peru received the bulk of their diaspora. I met Cubans in Panama that had no intent of staying in a free very pro capitalist country with one of the best standards of living in Latin America. You can venture the route they were taking.

I'm glad that restaurant owner got his chance though.

Definitely a fun idea for sure! I was in Havana two years ago, and aside from the government-owned hotels and resorts, the only other signs of "development" were sports-related venues. I use the term development loosely because what the Cuban government considers a "resort" is equivalent to a three-star hotel in the U.S....and even they have been running short on food, electricity, and maintenance for the last few years. The sports venues were similar to what you might see with a 2a-3a school in Texas.

Sadly, there are huge infrastructure issues that will need to be addressed before it can meet the vacation expectations of most Americans, but the potential is definitely there. I just hope they find a way to maintain their rich history and culture at the same time. The architecture and history in Havana is mind-boggling.
