I wonder if something like this will wind up being needed in Cuba once we are invovled in 'fixing' it?

Nick Shirley just went (and escaped) fyi:

Axios: escalating rhetoric shows invasion could be imminent: (Paywalled). I doubt it, personally.

One of the fundamental and root cause obstacles/problem/challenges with Haiti is that the Haitian side of the island is basically wrecked ecologically. Some parts of it look like a Sonoran desert. I spent almost a year and a half in Haiti and I do not believe that there will ever be improvement and one of the reasons is that a decent level of agriculture is just not possible, there are huge water issues, and off the Haitian coasts the water and life is wrecked.

As a nearby neighbor the US has to ensure that wrecking the ecology of the island is avoided in Cuba as the pitfall makes solving a lot of other issues much more difficult. Intervention, invasion, acquisition, take over, coup, whatever it is, it needs to be done PDQ for Cuba to have a better chance of pulling itself outta this mess in the next 20-30 years. There is a lot more than politics and getting shed of commies in play to straighten Cuba out.

If you care to share, what the heck were you doing in Haiti for a year and half? I've run across a few guys that spent extended time there and also in Virgin Islands and PR doing disaster recovery work. They did not have pleasant stories to tell. In fact, a few of he discussions dealt with guys getting insanely depressed being somewhat isolated and seeing the conditions there. I also have friends who do mission work so they see it for a week in the summer but I don't think the concept of how bad things can be in these areas.

I somewhat facetiously said in one of these threads that recolonizing the Caribbean and parts of Central and South America is actually not the craziest or dumbest of ideas. They are simply incapable of operating as independent sovereigns.
