Well I just discovered the work around on consoles for settlement size limits. Currently going crazy with a power armor/workshop building and now have unlimited space.

WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS?!?
quote:Castle is definitely best for water production. Found out that it's a 999 cap on water. Not sure if that's just a display cap, or if you can't produce more than that.
Which is why I built a second industrial water purifier in the ocean plus a ton of single water pumps on the backside of the castle facing out towards the sea. I'm at 140 water plus 24 food which is higher than my 140 defense so I'm hoping my turrets get tested soon.
quote:Mostly just showing off. Having the vendor stands is nice to be able to sell junk, especially if you get the perk that allows you to invest. Lots of water production pretty much gives you unlimited funds.
Is there a point to building these elaborate settlements other than just showing them off?
Do they actually help you in the game, like generate money or more resources for you?

One thing I did for the gate is just took a metal wall and put it in the doorway. Doesn't seem to affect the willingness to attack from that direction. With walls corralling any attempt to go around, it's a very effective kill zone. I put a junk gate on the opposite side of the compound for settlers and provisioners, and the computer never seems to come from that direction. Only downside to the stupid missiles is that it makes it really difficult to gather loot afterwards. Spot the chunk of blood in the dark is no bueno.

You can find pillows throughout the wasteland. Just don't scrap them and place them on the beds.
quote:What's the spawn point for enemies on that one? Thought about it, but was worried about whether they'd spawn on one of the beaches vs only coming from the road.
Norhagen beach or the island is the best. You can spam an entire coastline. Caps for days

Blah blah blah blah, bathtub full of money, blah blah.
quote:You can skip it all. I really didn't start getting into it until The Castle, and when they guy posted earlier about making money from water.
Is it necessary, or can I just skip all that crap.

quote:Yes, I believe that you do have to place beds inside a structure/under a roof to increase the happiness ... the buggy part is that some report that they have low happiness in side of the pre existing buildings in Sanctuary while others (like me) don't seem to have any ill effects.
So I've been bouncing around my settlements trying to make everyone happy and building beds for everyone. I came across a weird bug where the stats for my settlement were wrong or zeroed out under the workshop tab on my Pip-Boy.
I looked it up and apparently fast traveling in and out of settlements bugs out the stats. So any time you visit a settlement you have to go well outside of the green settlement border and then fast travel. Very annoying. Also some are saying that the bed stat only counts when the bed is placed inside of a structure or on a floor that you built. Just slinging beds left and right outside may count towards the total but not work towards settlement happiness.
Getting rid of the exclamation points on my settlements has been a chore. What has worked for me is having food and water be about the same amount with it being better to have slightly more water. And your defense stat needs to be about double your water and food combined. I'm hoping some of this nonsense gets better with a future update.
I also started running supply lines yesterday, hopefully that helps too.
