Good recipe, spadilly.

I used a crockpot this year. Takes a bit more time (all day). Also, bought the fresh peas, instead of dried. Whichever way you do it, it's still good.

Don't forget the cornbread, folks.

I have been making these for a couple of years now. Absolutely amazing. Didn't do it this year, though. Wanted to cut the recipe in half, and wasn't sure of appropriate cooking time...definitely didn't want to mess them up.

Made them for the fourth time on 1/1/16. Didn't have a chance to soak the peas as I had to travel to DFW since my wife's grandma passed on the 31st. So ended up having to double the recipe. Did a "quick soak" by boiling for two minutes and then letting sit for an hour. Still worked out great and received compliments from all my in-laws.

Just finished picking up the rest of the items. After all these years though I still have never seen Cajun stewed tomatoes. I just buy the No salt added and do more Cajun seasoning on my own.

Three years ago I convinced my mother in law to make these instead of the crap she normally makes. Unfortunately, the night before my neighbor twisted my arm and made me drink a bunch of moonshine after I ran out of whiskey. My wife threatened me with death if I didn't go to her moms and eat black eyed peas since she made this recipe just for me. I ate a very small bowl and thought...this tastes good. I thought it again 5 minutes later when I tasted them again...if you know what I mean. And 10 minutes...and 15.

Maybe i'll try them again this year without the worlds worst hangover.
