Our crock pot boils on the "high" setting. No reason you couldn't just do it all in a giant pot. I just find the crock pot convenient.

Fixed it today with cornbread and it was awesome.

Made ours today incorporating a lot of this recipe, had a Honey Baked Ham bone and ham pieces for the meat. I use Chicken Stock for a portion of the water, gives it a great rich flavor.

anyone have issues getting the BEP's cooked all the way through? I bought fresh ones from HEB and cooked them for 7 hours before giving up. My parents and a co-worker had the same problem.

I had the same issue. My theory is that the fresh peas the grocery stores sell aren't actually fresh but presoaked and should actually be soaked for a couple hours prior to cooking. Next year I will just soak dried BEPs overnight if I can't get them fresh from Dilorio's or farmers market

Wessimo- They are already presoaked and rinsed. I always buy the same brand and cook them the same way. I have never had this issue before

I know how to cook homie, there was something wrong with the BEP's. I swung by my local HEB last night and they had a lot of complaints about them.
