Greatest Charlie P moment was after the La Tech game in 2012, somebody on here called in and asked about JFFs odds to win the heisman. The response was all the smugness you would expect. Wish I had a recording of that call.

The matt Thomas show is great IMO.

Although this time of year I struggle with it because of rockets talk. During the summer time it's very good.

Pallilo was only happy when he could downtalk any prospects for anything good happening in local sports. Or talking hockey.

The last time I made a point to try to listen to him was the day after the Stros won the series in
17. Figured he would have some interesting guests on to talk franchise history. Nope. Sourpuss sounded like his dog had died. He could barely speak, and just took call after call from weird old men talking about how their uncles liked baseball and rattling off the names of all the dead Astros who they wished were alive to see it. Including some that were still alive.

They aren't backed by ESPN. That just means the station is willing to buy a bunch of ESPN syndicated shows and wants to be labeled as an ESPN radio affiliate. 790 used to be the local ESPN station.

I thought they had one of the best signals in the area. I can get it pretty far in the sticks out 59 North way. That and Country Classics are the only clear FM signals in some spots.

Per his twitter, Charlie Pallilo is out at 97.5. Are there any stations left he hasnt hosted at or does he try to make another Houston sports radio lap. I honestly think his time in Houston radio might be over unless he's willing to take a pay cut or work some off-hours as his style of radio show just isn't as engaging with today's sports fan. Granted I don't know who listens to sports radio anymore so i could be way off base

He went from being a funny curmudgeon who loved sports, to just sounding like a chemically depressed old dude who hates everything several years ago. His show sounded like a funeral the day after the stros won the series in 17. There is absolutely no such thing as good news on his show.

It was the second worst segment of Houston sports talk radio ive heard in the last 10 years. Nothing will top Josh Innes pulling a kids mix tape out of the trash and playing it on repeat to embarrass the kid.

CP got that one old guy that calls in at least once a week to talk about some obscure Astros topic nobody cares about.

It could be superbowl week and this mf'er calling in to talk baseball.

Charlie has been bad for sure the last few years but the station as a whole has gone downhill since covid. Getting rid of Raheel, Barry, the Blitz, and losing time for John combined with their choices of replacements have been terrible for audience numbers I have to believe. Personally I'd listen all day but now that they have eliminated anyone with a personality or topics other than 6 hours of jack easterby influence talk I can barely make a full segment before turning the dial.

Never heard of either of these people but I see a lot of potential in Vanessa. She just looks like a sports encyclopedia.

Gallant was on 610 (I think, might have been 790) for a long time, did like reporting and night shows. Had to look up Vanessa, looks like sports reporting for KPRC and fill in on 610 previously

Gallant does/did the overnight iirc and hes pretty good.

Will be interesting to see how this two work together

Gallant's last real duties at 610 before he was let go was being the 3rd wheel with Sean and Seth in the mornings. They'd be trying to have a normal conversation and he'd be yelling at them.

After he left, he went to Seattle and did drivetime up there.

I'm sad to see him back.

I listened to the Bench back in the 90's and then enjoyed 1560 when John and Lance went there but with the advent of Sirius I haven't listened to local radio in years. I did try listening to John and Lance a couple of times but the signal was in and out so not worth it.

I don't know why you have this depression angle... he never came across that way with me. he is just a pragmatist and always will point out the downside to an upside. I never got the impression he hates everything. hell he's the only radio guy that would get excited about college basketball games and would hype non-Rocket great players/performances.

I'm not sure his style is what an FM radio audience wants at day time, not my business, but I usually liked listening to him, especially during baseball season.

I listen to John and Lance on my Alexa in the morning when I am getting dressed. I think all in all they are still pretty damned good. Lance's NFL Network ties help.

I tried the satellite radio sports and couldn't find a national show that I liked. Seemed like they were just going off the same hot national topic sheet and stroking off the new york teams. I do like the espnu during football season. Otherwise, I am good with local stuff. It has been nice for the last two years and no commute, so I let the satellite subscription lapse. Might have to call them up soon.

Only national show I really listen to isn't national. It's Bill King on WNSR in Nashville. He basically only talks about College Football. He used to be national.

Other than that I listen to podcasts.

It is because their signal comes out of Mont Belvieu. I think they might be the only one that does. That's why you can get it up in Kingwood.

The young blood they brought in aren't bad. The lady is better than the guy. They are both better than whiny ass Joel Blank.
