Correct, the more contributions to the endowment, the more money that the Foundation will provide in scholarship funds for students.

If the scholarship reaches $50,000, for example and depending on how the family wants it set up, the scholarship could support two students at a lesser amount or one student with a larger scholarship.

The Foundation pays out scholarships at a set percentage so as not to disturb the principal of the gift.

And don't forget about the potential to multiply your gift's impact with a matching gift from your employer. If you are unsure if your company matches employees' gifts to educational institutions, check with your HR department. They should also have the paperwork you will need to complete to have the gift matched.

some of these higher-profile folks (Sherman, former players in the nfl) *may* prefer to make anonymous contributions. in the interest of preserving their ability to do so, i think it's great that you've reached Sherman with this effort, and that others may also be reaching the players, but I would be okay if the story ends there. They'll have an opportunity to contribute in any way they see fit.

Agreed, excellent point.

A couple of things.

1. We're finalizing a press release as well. It was going to be done this morning but this has become a different animal since I got out of bed.

2. If any of you knew Joseph, please feel free to post your recollections, pics, etc on the facebook page, facebook.com/joeyvfund. I'm sure the family would love to see that.

3. Cannot say "Thank You" enough to those of you who have given and plan to give.

The last 24 hours have been a big change. Yesterday I was a little worried about how long it would take to get this endowed because giving had slowed. Then POW! The Aggie family really stepped up and made this dream a reality! Very proud of you guys!!

I wanted to clarify that individuals' and organizations' giving totals are confidential. We will not release a donor's giving amounts without permission. Publicity of a gift usually comes in the form of a press release or an article, but donors give permission for the release of that information prior to publishing. They also have the final approvals on the article or press release.
