I don't think he would've started for Croatia. Maybe in place of Rebic but I don't think so. I definitely don't think he would unseat Rakatic, Peresic, or Modric. They were all playing lights out throughout the tournament. I do think he'd be one of the first off the bench though.

The decision to play Rooney in this match. He retired from England. He should have stayed retired. If they wanted to donate the proceeds to his foundation they could have. Bring him out at HT and hand him a big check. Promote the match as a fundraiser. But having him suit up and play is dumb and the former players are hacked that he's tarnishing the jersey. They have been very vocal about it.

He's been killing it in MLS. He may not be up to the standards of Kane and Alli, but he can certainly still play - in a friendly, at least. I agree that if he retired he should mean it, but I don't know why any of his teammates would feel entitled to *****.

If they wanted to keep playing they should either
A.) be more popular with the fans,
or
B.) retain their skills for longer
