You'll get at least one good season out of him but you won't enjoy it very much.

He will likewise hate our financial commitment. He only wants to buy talent. Not interested and growing from within which is a key to Tottenham success.

This is what doesn't really make much sense (and was expounded on by a soccer writer I follow on Twitter). Mourinho is going to cost a lot of money (13 million/yr by the sound of it) and you know he's going to ask for 100+ million in reinforcements to get the players he wants. If you don't do it, he'll mope and won't be a success. If you do it, you might get some success but...wouldn't it have been easier to just give that money to Poch? If you're going to commit to dropping 100+ million, why not do it for the manager that elevated you to the elite tier with relatively minimal investment from the club? Makes no sense.

listened to Soccer FC radio this morning and well...fact

Since February we are in relegation level points.
Since Feb 10, Tottenham have won just six times in 24 matches in the English top flight, and they are currently on a five-game winless run in the league.

I mean maybe this is the right move.

Ejecting on Poch makes sense if 1) you think he's not really trying to win, 2) he forgot how to win, or 3) you think he lucked into all that winning he did over the past couple years.

He doesnt have a trophy.

Of the 3 talking heads on the radio they ask where he would land next
One said AC Milan, one said Bayern, and then the other said second tier. Big clubs will not hire him with the way this went down and he doesnt have trophies.....big clubs expect trophies.

Now that things simmered, I came to the conclusion that maybe timing was right. Form has been bad all season with not much in the way of player departures and no real improvement. With essentially same players as prior seasons but poor form and results, you gotta look at the gaffer. Thinking that way, maybe the players "quit" on Poch as there's been a lot of talk about his tactics/style clashing with the team.

Never have been a fan of Mourinho bc of his style but when I think about it, he's proven. The man wins trophies wherever he goes. Levy has had a fascination with him for some time and I think if Spurs are to keep moving without missing a beat, Mourinho is the best out there. Also, he might actually be able to mend fences with several players wanting to leave Spurs and even be able to unify the squad if it needs it. We'll see...

visit hammers on Saturday. Spurs are my club, so staying hopeful! COYS!

I've been preparing emotionally for this change for at least several weeks. The writing has kind of been on the wall concerning Poch, and I think Mourinho has been hinting that he'd be interested for quite a while. I'm okay with the move, for these reasons:

The team was in disarray under Poch. I'm not blaming him, and I don't actually think it's his fault, but it's obvious. What can you do about it? Well, you can try to replace half the roster and hope chemistry spontaneously emerges, but that's difficult and very risky. It's much easier to replace the manager than to replace half the squad.

My first real exposure to Mourinho was when he took over at ManU, because that was around the time that I started paying attention to the Prem. Like any decent person, I wanted them to fall on their faces and do horribly (relatively speaking), and they largely did. Based on that, I wouldn't have wanted him for my team. Then he started doing a lot of TV, and his tactical knowledge was so far ahead of all the English dudes they'd put him on TV with that it was laughable. He obviously has an amazing mind for the game. He's also experienced a lot of success in his career. He seems enthusiastic about the project, so I'm willing to optimistically wait and see what happens.

I still love Poch, and I hope to always feel that way. I'm most sad that I'll probably never sing "He's magic, you know" again, although I think it would be a nice tribute to do once if his future teams ever play Spurs.

isn't it a bit odd though that 10 days into a 2 week break he is fired.

i mean something recent triggered that otherwise it would have been at the start of the 2 week break.

Spurs last played on Nov 9 and he is fired Nov 19. Hmmmmm.

Rumors are that he was being inflexible and unwilling to change - both with training and the senior players had grown weary of it, and with players in games and strategy or style and mgmt had grown tired of it.

But there had to have been a real dust up or confrontation I think. We heard a few days ago of a kind of state of emergency team meeting but it had gone well by reports then.

Might have taken that long to hammer out most of the details with Mourinho. No way they completed the entire process in 12 hours or however long it was before Poch was officially sacked and Mourinho was officially hired.

I'm starting to think Daniel Levy is the Dan Snyder of EPL.

Not that he owns the team but that he makes emotional decisions without consideration for the impact and yanks the team in different directions whether it fits the personnel or not and then again gets upset when it doesn't work. Seems very reactionary.

9 head coaches since 2001 and 3 others as interim.

Didn't want a change but if one had to happen I'm glad they went bold. Also wouldn't expect them to invest this much in a manager if they didn't plan to also invest in the transfer market.

Excited to see the game tomorrow. COYS!

I agree and this also frustrates me. You could have just financially invested in your already strong coach.

Agreed. Only thing that makes sense is that Levy didn't trust Pochettino to manage the acquisition process. Might be some merit to that as well.

Regardless it's been bad form this year. I'm hopeful to see that change.

Got a little wobbly late but we finally got a W. Been too long. I think we need to be ok with son being this teams best player.

just woke up so i missed all but the last WH goal.

guess it was a good start, seemed a little weak at the end. And that's where we need the most help - finishing and defense in general. So maybe those late goals give JM some things to work on.

Just watched the highlights... looked like we were flying early. Dele and Son very active.

This year we've had a lot of strong 30 minute stretches. Today I felt like we had a strong 80 minute stretch. For the last 11 months, nothing has been a given, so even against west ham, today felt great.

You need to go back and watch the first half, there's no "guess", it was the best we've looked in a long time.

The first 35 minutes were AWFUL. Poor discipline, no urgency. The goal before half lit a fire and 2nd half looked much better. But Olympiacos is not a good team so it's difficult to be positive even with the 2nd half comeback.

I also agree with Timmy Howard's post game comments that Jose pulling Dier in the 30th is not a good sign for Dier. Jose has since made comments in support of Dier and saying it was strictly tactical given the 2 goal deficit, but I still think it's a sign that players will have a short leash.

He's gotten more of a chance with Mourinho than poch was giving him.
