Wonder what JP Morgan's next play will be? Imagine they will want to find some other way to make a play in European soccer. That was a serious chunk of change they were willing to front for this. It'll be interesting to see plan B and whether it's better or worse than plan A.

In some ways this was pretty successful as it jump-started the conversation and we'll quickly hit the "Okay, so now what?" part of the discussion.

Perhaps I'm looking at this simplistically but isn't JP Morgan starting over from scratch a bit?

They've proven their willing to drop a large chunk of change in soccer but their assessment and modeling was apparently way off. They made the decision based on a profit model that was built on a completely misunderstood environment. All of these clubs and risk assessors at JP Morgan built the case on a fundamentally flawed understanding of the business. They made assumptions about customers and appeal in the market that were waaaaay off.

They probably are willing to drop a similar amount of money if they can be convinced that there is substantial profit to be had but it's clear that they have absolutely no clue in understanding the market and assessing the potential/viability of these endeavors. And until they redo that work and understanding, they aren't likely going to commit such money again.

I think that's a misinterpretation of what he meant since they speak weird Spanish in Spain.

I took it to mean kids aren't interested in watching big teams vs little teams when the score is 4-0 in the 60th minute. I think he meant not there is no interest in those type of games in the midweek so they cut (cortar) them out of the schedule.

UEFA did announce they were going to restructure the group stage so to create more games--which if you believe the most pure explanation of the Super League (create more matchups between the best clubs)--that'll do some of that.

However, if leaders are actually resigning across clubs, that leads me to believe there was no grand plan. This wasn't bargaining. There was no alternative end game. There was just a stupid idea.
