So, more and more top stars are calling for something to change with scheduling, saying the are forced to play way too many games with all the extra tournaments, exhibition games, national games, ect.
What's the likelihood of it changing and what is going to change? Just removing some of the exhibition games?

I could see the PL teams trying to pull out of the small cups. The Nations League for all the continents need to go. These international breaks every 4-5 weeks to fly players around the world is a killer.

Top players are going to have to align (at least within a few of the big leagues) on which competitions they'll play in and which they will boycott. Path of least resistance would likely be to boycott a lot of the new national team games that have been created. Maybe those nations leagues still exist but with B and C team players who don't play as many club games because their clubs aren't in European competitions. The every 4 year tournaments still have the A team players unless a country chooses not to for any number of reasons.
No matter what though, it's going to have be driven by a large group of top players who align and hold the line when they inevitably get branded as selfish by the press no matter what stand they attempt to take.

If top stars really wanted to make a stance they would turn down the call ups. And opt to stick at the clubs during the international window.
Thats really the curious part. Its only the very top echelon of players that this is becoming an issue for. Players that are considered world class who are being asked to play in every match for club and country because of how good they are. Rodri, Haaland, Saka, Van Dijk, Mbappe, Vini Jr, etc. They are the ones that are really racking up the miles because they're playing 38 matches in leagues, 10-16 in CL, another couple in a league cup, some more in a domestic cup. For instance, Real Madrid played 55 competitive matches last year, Man City played 59. Spain & England played 17 competitive matches.KCup17 said:

So these top players are being asked to play 65+ times in a calendar year with very little time off. At a minimum, they need to start telling countries no when it comes to the extra international breaks (we now have 3 breaks in the Fall instead of 2). Then they need to have possible conversations with club managers about work loads. Should these very top echelon be playing in a League Cup match against lower competition.
Most teams and players are only playing 40-45 matches. Its only the very best that are being asked to play so much
