Ho hum. Bounce out of this worthless comp and focus on much bigger goals. Get MO and some others off.

Amazing what a legit striker can offer a team, and Arsenal need one in such bad way.

Bench the whole team and move on.

We were linked to sign Isak from Sociedad. The same summer he signed with Newcastle we went all in on Gabriel Jesus

Sickening

Raya with an absolutely horrible turnover leads to 2nd goal. Yikes

Does Arteta not recognize that Newcastle have his tactics figured out?

Hindsight. We were excited to sign GJ and he was pretty hood until he hurt his knee before the World Cup.

He was never going to be the goal scorer we needed. Just as Kai isn't now

Eddie Howe 100% has Arteta's number. He's the only manager that continues to dominate him.

Get the team out to Dubai and finally get some rest

I was thinking the same. Have seen enough of these games vs the northmen to conclude they have figured out how to stymie the Gunners. It's really frustrating to watch after the 5-1 dismantling of city.
And it's not hard to understand how they will approach the match.

Gabriel Martinelli faces more than a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury suffered against Newcastle on Wednesday.

Nwaneri & Trossard on the wings for the next month. And may see Kobia or Sagoe get some mop up duty a few times.

Isak was a definite miss but Jesus' injuries have also definitely greatly heightened the problem.

If Jesus gave 12-15 goals a year, and I think he very well would without the injuries, we'd be in a very decent shape.

I don't see Isak happening ever.

I think we're going to have to ride with Havertz and either take a flyer on a veteran to help get us through next season or overpay a good bit to get a younger guy. Or both.

Rumor that Kai did his hamstring while they were training in Dubai.

Sami Mokbel claiming a "3 player summer"..... Sesko, Zubimendi and a winger, likely Nico Williams

Those would be the main 3 priorities. Still gonna need some more depth signings in the midfield if we are losing Partey and Jorginho.

Yeah. Im assuming that doesn't include the Nypan level of signing because 3 total additions this summer doesn't even cover the known loss.

Which young impact winger does Hagn have in mind? Keep in mind Trossard tossed in 17 goals last season.

We would only have 4 reliable starting quality forwards left, Havertz, Jesus, Martinelli and Saka. Jesus and Martinelli just had disappointing seasons.

While I actually believe Calafiori has the skills to play left wing in a pinch, that's just that, in a pinch.

Re-upping my claim that Calafiori can play winger in a pinch

Arsecast contemplated Tierney on the left, Calafiori on the right, Big Gabi at striker.

Do it Mikel!

Welp season is a wash. Just have to find a way to stay in Top 4.

Has to be some serious introspection into how they are building the squad. With the continuous increase in how many matches there are, you have to be able to rotate and we can't do that with a thin squad. We already play an incredibly demanding tactical version of the game. You just knew this was coming, especially with Kai. He played like 7 or 8 full 90s in 3 weeks. After the Wolves game you could see that he was totally spent. Redline an athlete like that with minimal recover time and its a ticking time bomb. This summer has to be perfect in terms of recruitment and it can't be just 3 players. Get Sesko and Zubimendi. Don't waste money on Williams and try and get someone slightly cheaper. Probably find another left sided defender (Start preparing MLS to move into a midfield role). Also need another midfielder. You basically need a minimum of 5 guys.

I will say that I think one of the issues we're seeing is because of the injury problems that we had to start the season. When players get injured, those who aren't have to pick up the workload and now we are seeing those players that did that go down with injury. The top level players desperately need an empty summer to fully recover, but there is always some damn tournament to be played. Euros and Copa America really ****ed us in that aspect.

Clearly this was the inevitable conclusion of bad squad construction and management, and not "bad luck" as some will try to spin it.

But do we really know whose fault it is, so that I'm annoyed with the right person(s)? Arteta, the board, the Kroenkes, Edu, etc.?

14 matches left with only 7 points between us and 4th. Not a good situation.

Honestly I think the blame goes several places. Arteta has had plenty of opportunities to put in backup players or make substitutions and refused to do so. But that might be because the backup options aren't good enough in our system (Edu), and that might be because the powers that be don't want to spend money (Kroenke). However you slice it, it's just about inexcusable in my book. Arsenal always seem to have injury issues, so it's not like this is the first time we're seeing something like this. They know better. But barring a total collapse down the stretch, nothing will really change.

Don't forget the stricter enforcement of the financial rules as well. It takes time to rebuild a squad and Arteta has been doing that slowly since he got to Arsenal. Maybe he made mistakes but he's a first time manager, so I'll forgive that because of the on the field changes we've seen.

We're really freaking good. Really good.

I agree, and I am not saying Arteta is a bad manager, or that we shouldn't have hired him, and certainly not saying he should be fired. But he has got to get better about rotating players in and out.

There is clearly an element of bad luck that they all got injured. And there is even more clearly an element of bad luck that they all got injured in the span of a few weeks.

And there is clearly an element of a lack of depth on the forward line.
