Bobby Shuttleworth is in his fourth season at Florida State in 2025 and his second season as associate head coach, after serving as an assistant coach in 2022 and 2023.

In his first three seasons, Shuttleworth has helped the Seminoles to their fourth national title in 2023, another NCAA College Cup berth in 2022 and five ACC titles, two regular season and three tournament. He and head coach Brian Pensky and his staff were named the 2023 National Coaching Staff of the Year after leading FSU to its first undefeated season in school history.

In 2024, Florida State went 15-2-4, was the runners-up in the ACC regular season and won the ACC Tournament title, the team's fifth in a row. The Seminoles' NCAA Tournament streak was extended to 25 consecutive season, and the team advanced to the second round. Graduates Taylor Huff and Carissa Boeckmann began their professional careers in the NWSL with Bay FC and the Portland Thorns, respectively.

In 2023, Shuttleworth helped the Seminoles put together one of the most dominant runs of the century in women's college soccer. FSU finished the season 22-0-1 and cruised their way to a National Championship to become the first undefeated National Champion since 2011. FSU outscored their opponents 21-1 in the NCAA Tournament including a dominant 5-1 win over Stanford in the National Championship Game. FSU's five goals were the most the Cardinal had given up since 2000 and were the most goals in the title game since 2003.

As the main coach for the goalkeepers, Shuttleworth was vital in Cristina Roque's and the FSU defense's sucess in 2023. FSU allowed just one goal in the NCAA Tournament and allowed just two goals in the final 10 games of the season. Roque earned Third-Team All-America honors under Shuttleworth and had a 0.62 goals against average in 2023. Roque went on to be drafted by the Utah Royals in the third round of the NWSL Draft.

As a team in 2023, FSU broke the school record for goals per game, assists per game and points per game and had the second-most goals, assists and points in school history. FSU also broke the school record for goals in ACC play, and their 36 goals were the second-most in ACC history.

In his first season as an assistant coach at Florida State, Shuttleworth helped lead the Seminoles back to the College Cup for the 13th time in program history with a 17-3-3 record and was named part of the 2022 Atlantic Region Staff of the Year. The Noles won their ninth ACC Tournament Championship and fifth ACC Regular Season Championship. It marked just the third time in program history that the Noles won both the regular season and tournament championships.

The Noles were dominant all throughout the 2022 season, outscoring opponents 64-20 with 11 shutouts in 23 games. The Seminole defense finished the season with a 0.86 Goals Against Average with Shuttleworth in charge, tied for the 13th best season in school history. Under Shuttleworth's instruction, Cristina Roque was named the ACC's Goalkeeper of the Year and Third Team All-American.

Bobby Shuttleworth came to Florida State after finishing a 14-year career in the MLS and has been named an assistant soccer coach by head coach Brian Pensky. Shuttleworth started his MLS career in 2009 after playing collegiately at Buffalo. During his 14-year career, he spent time with four different MLS clubs, most recently with Atlanta United in 2022. He made a total of 238 regular season and playoff appearances and ranks 13th all-time among MLS goalkeepers in regular season games played (232).

Shuttleworth finished his career with 81 wins in 14 seasons and recorded 53 clean sheets during his time in the professional ranks. He started his career with the New England Revolution where he played eight seasons. Shuttleworth played in 127 matches with 124 starts during his time with New England. In 2014 the Revolution finished fifth in the league standings and Shuttleworth helped lead them to the MLS Cup Final.

He then played two seasons with Minnesota United, a season with the Sacramento Republic and two seasons with the Chicago Fire before ending up in Atlanta for the 2022 season.

Shuttleworth's name is plastered all over the University of Buffalo's record book as he is first in career goals-against average (.80) and third in career wins (21). He finished the 2008 season with a .63 GAA good for second-best in school history and his .94 GAA in 2007 is good for 10th best in school history.

Shuttleworth is married to his wife Geenamarie and they have one daughter Quinn.

Obviously we now know why it took so long to make an announcement since he was busy helping Pensky win another national title. We didn't get our first choices, but I think in the end this could end up being a very good hire. He doesn't have much in the way of head coaching to evaluate, but he's considered a rising star in the profession and has now mentored under an elite coach at an elite program. That should certainly help A&M get back to a higher standard since he knows the level of both players and personnel (coaches) to reach the top of the sport.
