Multiple established coaches declined. But doesn't matter. Hiring young and experienced in soccer was the the way to go. More inspired and relevant to today's soccer landscape. Looks like a promising new hire! Gig 'em

From what I've heard we were turned down by 2 coaches after initial conversations. It may have been that they simply removed their names from consideration. But of course this could be wrong as I don't have first hand knowledge. At this point it doesn't matter because we have a good hire now.

TCUx2, Baylor, UW, LSU, and Iowa (just this last week) to name a few.

With that said, even though it was a meandering and long journey, the feedback I have gotten from some FSU families is that the girls really liked him and he will be a really good hire. The hard part will be can he recruit Texas kids and will Trev give him the resources needed to be competitive.

Like the hire but without head coaching it may take a bit to establish ourselves as a top program. Recruiting will be hard in state but if he has a decent first year he can sell kids on the potential.

For those repeating 2nd hand rumors, what consulting firm led our search and when did Shuttlewoorth emerge as our target? Because he has apparently been the hire during the time period some of you were saying others were turning us down. Additionally, this is literally not how any of this works. We don't go around offering a job to people, hoping they take it. You are well down a path with a candidate talking about the resources they want (facility improvements and NIL) before you "offer" a job and hope they accept it.

And as "newbi" pointed out above some of the names on that list are both humorous and preposterous.

I like that he's coming from a program with a championship culture, he's seen very (very) recently what it takes to win at the top level.

Not knowing anything more about him than what I'm now reading he seems like a solid hire, fingers crossed.

The OP asked targets - not offers. Are you telling me those coaches were never "targets" for the search? And many (if not all) didn't turn down going further down the process?

offers
targets
candidates

There seems to be some confusion around how a search works. A consulting firm bring candidates to this process for consideration? How many candidates did we talk to? How many became actual targets? When did some candidates know they weren't going to get the job and pulled their name out of consideration? How many targets did we pursue before the final decision? How many candidates were actually offerred the job?

Was it Rick Barnes that used to pull his name out of consideration for a job when it was obvious he wasn't going to get it and that became sort of a joke, a face saving move with his school and their fans. Now, you apparently have some little circles instead of saying that, creating stories that they turned down the job.

Florida State players amidst all their celebration after winning a national championship, seem to be wishing Shuttleworth well and sharing their praises for him all over social media. Seems like he'll be missed in Tallahassee by the players!!

He appears to be a VERY good hire. Though he has little coaching experience, it is highly positive that he was promoted to be the right-hand man not long after his arrival.

I am very confident that he can be the catalyst needed to restore the program's credibility and to create a championship achieving environment.

Congratulations, coach!

After the mini-catastrophe over the past six weeks since G was encouraged to leave, this is as good of a hire as we could have possibly hoped for. Love it!

Did A&M/Consultants talk with multiple coaches? Yes
Did some of the candidates ask about the hiring process/timeline? Yes
Did some decline to be a part of the process once the heard the timeline/process? Yes

Not saying any specific coach was or was not the top target. But I know a few that declined to be a part of the process did not want to wait until the NCAA tournament was over to know if they were the top candidate or not. As A&M was set on speaking with multiple coaches and having a more extended process, this turned off certain coaches that wanted to be the #1 target or to not be considered at all.

That is the way the process goes sometimes. If you are unsure on which candidate you really want and want to talk with multiple coaches, you cannot let a candidate dictate the schedule with you unless they are your #1 target.

And totally understand some coaches not wanting to be a part of the process the way we handled it, because they did not want to be set up for possible rejection or face potential blowback at their current university because they pursued the A&M job and did not get it.

I think everyone should be happy with the Trev process, sounds like to me he had an actual plan of talking with multiple coaches and wanted to stick with it. In the end, sounds like Trev found the coach he wanted.

Now I'm worried about who his assistants will be. Hopefully we can poach some from other Texas schools or grab people who are familiar with Texas clubs, especially the DFW area!!

A great program, young up and coming coach, I bet we'll be able to attract a strong pool of assistants! Curious who'll lead our offense!

Look. One thing you can observe about Trevs leadership is he's not gonna throw the moon to get a candidate. But you can bet if the coaches show they can succeed and upward trajectory we and he will ramp up resources when he sees ROI. See Elko, Ford, Morrison..

Full disclosure i was nearly apoplectic about how long this search was taking. Feeling good about it today.

Well, he did offer the moon to Chris Beard who took the job and then backed out at the last minute. And he also made a big offer to Tony Vitello before Tennessee matched it. He does swing for the fences when he has the backing of donors. In this case he was pretty much on his own to make the hire.

As others have stated, it wasn't that coaches were all turning down offers, they were backing out of a process that was too long for their comfort level. That and I think the compensation was in line with the going market, not a big offer to lure a top coach.

After all we've been through, I'm sure the process was frustrating for Trev, we should all be pleased with this hire. He has a similar profile to Nick Zimmerman (with less coaching experience) and we would have all been thrilled with Zimmerman.

There is energy and hope around the program again! Time will tell the level of success, but Trev rebounded and went with the Assistant from a highly successful program instead of the head coach at a mid major.

Applaud him for that strategy!

lol. He swung and missed at the top candidate on everyone's board that is now an MLB manager. The numbers thrown around would have put him at the highest salary in the sport. He did everything he possibly could to land him. Sometimes it doesn't work out…

Edit: sorry to derail, but some things have to be called out.
