We could remember the last coach we hired from FSU also, but we don't really have to now do we?

That's false. Elko was hired fall 2023. Trev was hired spring of 2024. That's not on him for stoops

But he's still stupid enough to keep Taylor.

There were other high quality candidates that were clear upgrades out there on the market to replace Earley, too.

It doesn't matter now who turned us down, who we were looking at, we got our guy! Bobby Shuttleworth! He obviously knows the game, he's well known, he's seen what it takes to win.

I was clearly one of, if not, the most vocal about wanting a change. Change is here. Now it's time to back out man, give him some faith and patience, and allow him to prove why he got the job. It's our turn to show what Aggie Soccer can be, what this community is, and what Texas A&M is all about. We're going to Pack Ellis, we're going to cheer like crazy, and teams are going to fear and respect Texas A&M like they used to.

Look what volleyball has become just with the right man at the helm. Students bought in, the community bought in and we made a sweet sixteen in year 2 and we're playing in another in a few days.

The jury's still out and who knows what success Shuttleworth will bring, but I am just so excited and thrilled to begin a new era of Aggie Soccer. We all know what the last few years has been, but we all know what the potential is. Let's turn Aggieland into the golden soccer community it deserves to be.

The Shuttleworth Era is here, let's see how this staff unfolds, let's build a championship roster, and let's go BTHO EVERYBODY and get Aggie Soccer back to the College Cup!

Can he bring Evan O'Steen with him as our starting GK for the next 4 years please? He IS, in fact, a goalkeeper coach. Pretty please

I mean. We do have a lot of talent in the GK department. I'd rather have the NIL budget directed towards a star striker that can score ala Shea O'Rourke.

I'm sorry, what?

Maybe go back and look at the football hiring timeline. Trev was still at Nebraska when the Stoops almost-hire happened.

The OP asked targets - not offers. Are you telling me those coaches were never "targets" for the search? And many (if not all) didn't turn down going further down the process?

Who cares?

you are just looking for a reason to complain.

Knowing Mookie it's probably a little bit of all 3.

Or you could hire a good coach, so the AD is not wasting the revenue share money.

the NIL is like 5k per player - Texags could easily put this together

Are we talking Seth? The person that just put together a Top 10 recruiting class even though the program was declining at a fever pitch? I would not have a problem with Seth staying on to recruit, because he has proved he can do it at a high level. Keeping the girls in the program was the problem, not getting them here..

But if Bobby has his own guys then he should go with his own guys.

They need to shift the profit from the summer camps completely to NIL. Let the players be "coaches" a little bit and hire one person to run it long term. The revenue from it would put us #1 in NIL and then even bring in more camp money from winning.

I assumed TRM was being critical of Taylor still being the WBB coach. I was just pointing out that paying her a buyout and then hiring a new coach may not be in the budget and thus she is still our coach.

Yep, was not able to follow the whole train of thought since it was over multiple pages. Definitely about WBB taylor, thanks for the insight.

From what I've heard, we were turned down by two coaches after initial conversations. It may have been that they removed their names from consideration. But of course, this could be wrong as I don't have firsthand knowledge. At this point, it doesn't matter because we have a good hire now.

TCUx2, Baylor, UW, LSU, and Iowa (just this last week), to name a few.

With that said, even though it was a long, meandering journey, the feedback I have gotten from some FSU families is that the girls really liked him and that he will be an excellent hire. The hard part will be whether he can recruit Texas kids and whether Trev will give him the resources needed to be competitive.

Why do we have to recruit Texas kids? I hope he recruits players who will succeed and Win A&M a National Title

I guess you don't have to recruit Texas kids but it seems it would be extremely difficult year in and year out to put together a solid team full of talent from outside Texas. The talent is in this state to build a championship core without stretching the resources.

The two areas in the USA producing the most talent are DFW and Southern California. So, if you want to win, you might want to recruit DFW really well. Then Atlanta area, New Jersey area and Colorado.

We've gotten some stud 27's from California. Would be a shame to loose them if Taylor leaves.

This approach is nothing but trouble. You put the best coaching staff you can together and try and re recruit them as necessary. You can't put players ahead of coaching staff in priority.

Not that I think the rankings always tell the whole story, but I think we only have one 2027 commitment from California ranked in the top 200 nationally (#16).

You let the coach evaluate the "stud players " and make his own decisions. Holding onto a coach for a player or two is not a recipe for long term success.

Paraphrasing some thoughts from 4 different DFW youth coaches DOC & ECNL & RL level (3 diff clubs)
-Bobby has a tough road. A&M gave up on the DFW market
-he has to get back into DFW recruiting to get them back
-I've got 5 girls in the portal now that are getting offered $30k from other schools. A&M can't rely on camp money anymore
-California recruiting is good but you have to get DFW kids at A&M
-he's got a hard job. He needs to hire someone with head coaching experience to help him
-(responding to me asking about keeping current asst coaches) that's not real. I just spoke with him yesterday and he asked about me coming to A&M cuz he wants our players
-he'll do well there but he has to play a good style of soccer. That "defense first" doesn't work anymore. Kids are used to playing attacking or possession soccer
-G didn't run away the transfers, it was the assistant talking about defense first
-I hope he has a budget for the portal cause kids are getting $40k each + full rides now.
-the camp money is way more than you can ever imagine. More than any single NWSL player gets paid

Coach G is responsible for where the state of our soccer program is today. Moving forward, we know that Coach Bobby has a tough job to do and it will take a few years for things to get significantly improved. Agree that Coach Bobby needs to hire a veteran and proven assistant or a former head coach as his top assistant to help run the key aspects of the soccer program.
