Damn. If only we could play that second half defense the whole game. Got the stops in the end. Just couldn't knock down the shots; Kawhi, Manu, NEAL. Neal should not play a single minute for the rest of the series. Hell let McGrady play in his place.

Anyways I really underestimated GS. No question they have the edge and until the Spurs play a complete game, probably the better basketball team.

And what the hell happened to Boris?

Some random thoughts.

Obvious point, we have to shoot better. We missed a lot of shots we normally make. Specifically, Parker and Ginobili have to shoot better.

Gary Neal and Matt Bonner do not need to see the floor. They're both worthless defensively, and so far aren't shooting well enough to make up for their lack of defense.

Kawhi and Green need to be on the floor every second Curry and Thompson are. They won't shut those guys down, but their length and ability to fight over screens better bothered them a little in the second half of both games.

This series is where we really miss Stephen Jackson. He would really be useful in these small lineups. He could switch off with guys on pick and rolls, but could also bang with Landry and Green down low.

Idk why Pop abandoned Diaw tonight, but his size and his quicker feet make him a far more valuable defender than Bonner. If we're going to play two bigs at once, Diaw needs to be one of them.

I am a big Spurs fan, but Ginobili has looked awful save for one basket in Game 1.

Green was way off tonight (during one stretch in the first half he went out of his way to prove he couldn't hit a three by taking three of them in a row and missing all three!).

Leonard was also off (5-12).

Spurs shot 5-21 from three and GS was 11-23 (I think I those numbers correct). That is an 18 pt differential that will kill you if it continues.

I would rather chase Curry and Thompson off the 3 and into the paint where you might either block a shot, force up a more awkward shot, or foul them (hard preferably) and force them to make all of their FTs. Those options are much better than getting torched for 11 threes!!!!

BUT, GS has a pretty strong young team flying around out there making the Spurs look old and tired. Curry, Thompson, Jack, and Lee (who is hurt) with Bogut/Ezeli is a pretty strong group. Deepen the bench and GS could be making deep playoff runs every year.

Spurs will be lucky to survive and advance in this series. I could actually see GS win all of their home games and beat the Spurs in 6. I counting on the 'veteran' Spurs to snap out of the poor shooting, figure out a better defensive game plan, and win the next three, but that may be a simple distant memory of their glory years. I don't know if these guys have it in them to do that this year. I don't see the desire, the burning drive to beat down their opponent like they did the years they won their Championships (and Duncan could jump back then too).

Why didn't Pop use McGrady?

1. Put in McGrady
2. Score 13 points in 30 seconds
3. Win
4. ???
5. Profit

Spurs have not been HOT in a few months. They either catch fire and perhaps win it all... or they stay exactly where they are and probably get outplayed by younger legs.

I guarantee every series is 2-1 after game 3.

This is why I did not want to play Golden State. Too many weapons. They got a pretty pedestrian game from Curry, but let Thompson go off for 34 and 14 (8 of 9 from 3) and Jack hit the clutch shots down the stretch.

Ginobili is playing terrible. He was 5-12, but all but one of his shots were wide open. His defense was atrocious. They need better play from him.

Green was 2-6 from 3, which actually isn't terrible (33% is around the league average, iirc).

Leonard had another great game... he's playing good defense, and while he only had 11 points, they were all huge. 12 rebounds, 7 of which were offensive, and he put several of them back in for 2. If everyone were playing as well as him, the Spurs would be winning.

Parker has to be more of a weapon to keep on the floor. 20 points on 41% shooting, but just 3 assists to 3 turnovers. GS shooters are teeing off on him on offense; he can cover drivers, but can't get a good enough contest on Curry/Thompson.

I say start Leonard and Green on Thompson and Curry, and have Parker guard Barnes. Force them to exploit the mismatch with the rookie.

And yea watching Ginobili play last night was depressing. He was really playing like his age.

I agree. And Parker doesn't need to work so hard to keep him off the post (risking foul trouble and tiring himself out), let Barnes back him down into the double team. Use Manu the same way.

Leonard and Green are the only guys who are slowing Curry/Thompson down.

Neal doesn't need to play anymore
His D is AWFUL
We missed wide open shots, Missed freethrows and once again had a HORRIBLE 1st half
If we don't start stronger in games and get back to the basics this will a 3-1 GS lead coming back to SA

The way we've been playing I would be ecstatic with a 2-2 series coming back to SA.

And I can say that I am scared that this will come back to SA 3-1 Golden State, but I will live with a split.

Maybe this series will be like the Dallas '06 series. Come back down from 3-1. Then Manu will stupidly foul Carl Landry to take it to overtime in game 7, eventually losing the series.
Ulrich

I'm hoping Manu is getting all of his stupid plays out of the way early in the series.

The way the Spurs are playing, they have two chances to win, "slim and none".

I'm not giving up yet. The Warriors tried to give the game away Wednesday, but the Spurs could not capitalize.

We just need to get out of this offensive funk. The Warriors are not this good of a defensive team. I wish there was one mor day of rest between games. Spurs looked tired Wednesday.

Still a lot of games to be played.

Spurs have outshot Warriors by a surprising margin in the second half of both games, so playing a solid first half could yield big results for us tonight. Gotta come out and match their energy in the first half. You know they're gonna be pumped with the crowd behind them. It helps that we are an excellent road team.

A win could be a big momentum-shifter.

These comments are just dumb. Obviously the spurs are in a dog fight, but slim and none? Not even close. They have at worst 50/50 odds, but all in all I'd be very surprised if they didn't advance. In one game, you have a guy go off for 22 points in a ridiculous 3rd quarter. In another you have a different guy go off for 7 threes and 29 points in a half. You are tied 1-1. It's pretty simple, if Curry scores 44 or Thompson gets 7 threes in a half, it's going to be tough to win. If those guys don't play well above their means, it will be tough for them to beat the spurs.

And before someone says they always do that, horses***. Curry averages 22.9 a game(26 in the playoffs), and nailed us for 44. Thompson averages 16.(16.4 playoffs). He goes off for 34.

Thompson had a career game. Curry had one of his best ones. He only scored 40+ 3 times all year. If they keep it up, I'll eat crow. But they aren't as good as they've seemed these first two games.

Once they both calmed down in the second half on Wednesday, the spurs actually outplayed Golden St by quite a bit for a lot of that second half. We'll see how it goes, but as long as they don't get down a lot early, I expect SA to win close games.
