The most I'd give up is 2 picks, maybe a third as a swap, and White/Lonnie or both of them. I wouldn't give up Keldon, Devin, any of this year's picks, or even Luka. I could be convinced on Murray since Simmons may make him a bit redundant, but I'd rather hold on to him.
Simmons is an All-NBA player with 4 guaranteed years at 24 years old. I don't see that as something that could get it done. Which is why I don't think the Spurs would pull the trigger.

Good for Gay. I'm glad he can go to a competitive team. Patty has been heavily linked to GSW. Now just got to see what DeMar does.

It's really going to suck seeing Patty not in silver and black.

On the bright side, next year's Laker team is shaping up to be a dumpster fire.

If he can ever walk again, this is what Zach Collins used to look like on the court.

This is like the Kawhi thing for us. Yes, Simmons is all of those things, but the issue is he has a broken jump shot, has been in the league...5 years? and shown very little improvement on that front. I would argue it's probably gotten worse. And he just had a horrible, horrible showing in the playoffs. Add to that everyone knows Philly prefers to move on, and they don't have the leverage.

Simmons, like DD, just doesn't fit well on a lot of teams. He isn't Harden or AD. He's unique and difficult to build around.

So, while I agree with you, it seems the market doesn't support what Morey is asking for.

I honestly don't think we know the market for Simmons yet. It's too soon. But I do think it is closer to what Milwaukee had to give for Holiday, at the very least. People talk about his jump shot but he is elite in almost every other facet of the game. He is just one year removed from being a top 15 player at 23 years old. He is also a top 3 defender finishing 2nd in the league in DPOY voting THIS SEASON. As mentioned, an environment that prides itself on development (ie. Chip) would do him wonders.

This is way different than the Kawhi scenario. Kawhi purposely tanked his value to get out of San Antonio only giving the LA teams assurance that he would sign long term deals. Furthermore, he only had one year left on his contract and had a lot of unknowns injury-wise. The two scenarios couldn't be more different in my opinion.

Edit: I'll also add that Philadelphia has a hell of a lot more leverage than we did with Kawhi. Dude is on a 4-year contract. He's not going to not play. They have the time to wait this thing out if they want to while remaining competitive in the East.

Classic battle set for tonight when the Spurs face the Utah Jazz Whites.

It's a better situation for Philly than it was for us with Kawhi. You're right and I oversimplified it. Simmons didn't intentionally tank his value.

But Eric Bledsoe + George Hill > a combination of White/Lonnie/Murray? I don't think so, but that's my opinion. To me, that's part of why Milwaukee had to give up 3 picks and 2 swaps, the age of both of those players AND the potential market for Jrue Holiday was likely larger than that for Simmons in terms of fit. The Bucks were also in a win now mode, similar to the Sixers, and had to be sure they got who they felt was needed to win a championship. Whichever team has the more urgent timeline is the one with less leverage in my opinion.

Philly can absolutely sit on any Simmons trade for a while, but the window to win with Embiid isn't that wide. But the ask that was reported is too high. 2, maybe 3 picks, maybe with some protections, 1-2 swaps, two young players (if Murray, a former All NBA defensive team selection, if Derrick, better 3P shooting and spacing) would be a fair trade. I think there's more urgency on Philly's side than you're giving it.

There is also the question about how long can you have your star young player dangling in trade talks without affecting team chemistry and morale.

I could almost see them hashing this out with him staying more than him actually being traded in the next year. But Morey is such a volatile GM you just never know.

It's funny reading all the comments and the fans of other teams complaining that they aren't contending for DD, like Heat fans, Mavs fans and several others. Whereas prior to free agency DD was a distant backup plan in many of their eyes, lol. Just funny to see the musical chairs aspect of free agency and how many of the teams view their respective windows

Yup. Better than seeing him at the Lakers or GSW. Don't know why, but that would have stung more. Hope to see his Jersey in the rafters soon. Nets @ SA this next season is going to be quite the tribute

DeMar may need to decide if he wants to play for a contender or get paid, because I'm not sure there is a pathway to accomplish both.

Unless the Spurs are willing to take on some scrub contracts, which wouldn't surprise me honestly.

Good point. Sucks to see him go but knew it was coming. Wondering if his Olympic playing had more teams looking at him. I thought maybe he would stay but that would be loyal to a fault.

I think PATFO probably told him we would love to keep him but they are going full on rebuild with the young guys and if he wants a contender, now is the time. I think that's more obvious considering the Primo pick

Looks like I was $10MM short on my market value for DeMar.
