Down 15 in the first half. Went on a 20-0 run and won by 19. 32-10 in the 3rd quarter.

Good stuff

It's hard to see the point of the DeMar DeRozan era in San Antonio now that it's over. The Spurs signed-and-traded the four-time All-Star to the Bulls for Thaddeus Young, Al-Farouq Aminu, and three future picks on Tuesday. It was the first step in a rebuild that should have begun three seasons ago. San Antonio wanted to remain competitive when Kawhi Leonard forced his way out in 2018, so it traded him and Danny Green to Toronto for DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and one first-round pick. But all that did was delay the inevitable. Now the Spurs are in a worse position than if they had let him walk for nothing.

It would be one thing if the Spurs had been a contender with DeRozan. Instead, they lost in the first round once and missed the playoffs the next two seasons. It has been a long way down for one of the NBA's most successful franchises. San Antonio had made the postseason for 21 straight years before Kawhi's departure. They went from David Robinson to Tim Duncan to Kawhi without missing a beat. A streak like that may never happen again. The Spurs did everything they could to keep it going under DeRozan. The problem was that no amount of coaching, continuity, or organizational knowledge could overcome a lack of star power.

Their two point guards get in each other's way. Murray and White have the same strengths and weaknesses: Both are defensive-minded slashers who need the ball and aren't comfortable spotting up on the perimeter. White attempted a career-high 6.8 3s per game last season but made them at only a 34.6 percent clip. That still put him far ahead of Murray, one of the worst shooters at his position (31.7 percent from 3 on 3.0 attempts per game) in the league. Spurs shooting coach Chip Engelland played an important role in Kawhi's growth in that area in his time with the franchise, but lightning hasn't struck twice.

There were times in Murray's second season, in 2017-18, when he looked like a future star. But his development was derailed when he tore his ACL, and he hasn't gotten back on track. Now he's the worst of both worlds - he doesn't look capable of being a featured player, and his poor jumper makes everyone around him worse when he's in a secondary role. White is more well-rounded but lacks the elite athleticism or scoring ability of the top point guards in the NBA. He's a career 51.3 percent shooter from 2 and 35.7 percent from 3.

Yea. Not the most favorable article. I agree with a lot of it though. At this point we have to just trust in our development. And be patient.

Ringer doesn't know what they are talking about, per usual. White and Murray work well together, because one or the other is usually hurt.

On an unrelated note, I am open to dating supermodels though I don't have much leverage in the situation.

White, Aminu, and a 2027 first. Take it before I pull the offer, Morey.

It's time for San Antonio to get back to what made it great in the first placegetting lucky in the draft and winning the lotteries for David Robinson and Tim Duncan.

Oh, it's that easy! /eyeroll.gif

His assessment of the team and our young assets is fair because none of them are the guy, but basically his entire argument is to tank and that we should have blown it up and tanked as soon as kawhi left. We were still a very competitive team and I think the fan base would have been pissed if we just tanked intentionally (I would have).

Also, even for teams that do tank it's not that simple. The sixers tanked and were awful for years and went through a ton of early lottery picks that didn't work out. Hell Ben Simmons went #1 and even for all the skins he has to show, he's probably getting traded away. The tank is far from a guarantee.

Yeah its a pretty week revision of history. So Kawhi throws a tantrum and the team is supposed to immediately pivot and trade away all of the veteran players? Idiotic

Zach Lowe said on his most recent podcast that the 2025 Draft Pick is Top 10 protected, then Top 8 protected in 2026. He didn't mention how it conveys after but I would assume unprotected in 2027?

Lowe also said he wouldn't be surprised if we would be able to flip Thad for a 1st.

I want an All-NBA player and control of 7 first round draft picks at a minimum.

Primo's got some good stuff. He'd probably be better off leading the team in Austin but damn. He can do things on the court that none of our current team can. It will be interesting if he can force is way on the first team. He's got about two and half months to put in some work before the season starts.

He looked pretty solid in tonight's game. He should have had at least 3 more assists, but good god the summer Spurs can't shoot. With Tre Jones having been out, he's the only guy out there that can create for others. I don't think he'll be ready for the big club and should spend this year being the guy in Austin.

Well there's plenty of morons posting on this board then

Seriously, Pop got these star players to play defense and that won them a gold. That and Kevin Durant being a true patriot and following through on his commitment despite having legit reasons to decline.

Yes! I guess we won't see some of those guys around for a while since the only reason they posted at all was to rag on Pop and his politics.

They will be back when the NBA season starts.

All is left for Pop is the all time record in wins in the regular season.

I am curious to see how this year goes. This is an extremely young team and it will be interesting to see how long Pop stays with them.

Young is 33 and Aminou is 30. These are the only players not in their 20s. 10 of those players are 24 or less. How long will he stay with the rebuild?

Will definitely be interesting with the direction they have gone with the roster. Pop needs 25 wins to tie and 26 for the record. It's going to be tough.
