Gafford has been pretty bad in general since the start of the playoffs. I remember there was a discussion on it during the playoffs and the Mavs were always way positive during the Lively minutes and way negative during the Gafford minutes.

The thought is probably that you lean in to small ball when Lively is unable to play or on the bench. But Lively needs to be getting 30-32 minutes per game when healthy. Gafford doesn't want to play 16 minutes a night. Mavs would be doing him a favor by trading him, and hopefully they can upgrade with a small ball 5/stretch 4 to go with a perimeter defender.

Kyrie was really bad the entire first half and the final 5 minutes. Dinwiddie was abysmal all game.

Klay didn't do anything, but it's hard to blame him for that when he's supposed to be playing off of both Luka and Kyrie.

Not having Grimes today was probably the difference.

The Suns are going to go after Jimmy Butler by swapping one first round pick for three first round picks from Utah... They are giving away their 2031 in exchange for the least favorable FRP of Cleveland/Minnesota/Utah (Utah holds all these FRPs because of the Mitchell and Gobert trades) in 2025, 2027, and 2029.

Really strange trade. It's a super long term play by Utah. Also all 3 of the FRPs going to Phoenix are going to be towards the end of the first round because both Minnesota and Cleveland are going to be good for the next several years. In this draft, it will be at the very end of the first because Cleveland is that good.

Miami has to understand those won't be desirable picks, but maybe Jimmy has put them in a spot where they just have to take what they can get.

Season from hell

Is this the part where the Mavs all get hurt, win the lottery, and draft Tim Duncan?

I've never followed a team that I thought had legitimate post-season championship aspirations fall apart like this due to injuries. Obviously it has happened in sports, but this is just rough.

If I didn't think this team had high upside (and frankly they showed why for the only stretch they were healthy) I would normally lean towards a tank. But at this point all players could theoretically be available in April when the playoffs start. You just keep grinding and hope that you get in some how.

We need a wing defender so lets tank for Cooper Flagg and we're unstoppable next season!
