I believe you are right, at least publicly that is what I remember them saying.

Not sure if those comments came before or after the ownership sale of the Mavs.

All that being said, this info came to me probably 2-3 weeks ago from a friend who spoke to someone high up in the Stars organization. Obviously a little bit of a game of operator there, so take it for what its worth.

I've only known Dallas sports, so not sure how many other sports cities have split up hockey/basketball arenas. Have always thought it was a good synergy to have both in one place. I could also see the new Mavs owners wanting the entire piece of the casino / real estate play instead of having to split it off.

Seems like all the new arenas come with the owners trying to make a real estate play all around the arena. I guess that is how AAC was when it started, just slow to develop.

Speculation on the timing of the signing is interesting.

Mavs only have enough money for 14 days worth of players. To use 10 of the days right now could suggest that they want a stop gap before Powell is able to return.

I know getting Powell back isn't super exciting, but the Mavs just need 10-15 minutes of competence at the center spot in the worst way.

Good video on Christie. Biggest takeaway is that the Mavs are +9 net when he is on the court and -7 net when he's off.

Still has the Mavs blue paint in the door jamb. This just isn't right

There isn't much I've found funny about this, but I do find the fact they hired a crisis management firm because of a 100% self-inflicted wound of complete idiocy planned over the course of months hilarious.

That video is from the AAC not tonight.

Dang it, looks like I was mislead. This one seems to be from tonight though.

"Fast breaks" or "cherry picking by guys who don't play defense"

Yeah, that pass wasn't because Luka is good at basketball. He's probably bad now actually. And we won't have to watch him do stuff like this until 2040 while the Mavs are irrelevant.

You don't have to watch him do anything…

Right. But I will. And so will you.

Ugly loss for Luka and the Lakers. I just don't see how that team wins a playoff series with how their roster is constructed.

Rough night for the Luka fanboys and new Lakers fans.

Only because you dweebs will post every single tweet about him in the Mavs thread. I was watching tonight because it's the only basketball game on.

You're such an NBA superfan that you watch whatever game is on, and yet you believe that you're going to be able to avoid watching Luka in LA? This league is going to shove the rest of his career down your throat whether you like it or not, dweebs posting tweets is the least of your worries.

I don't think I will avoid it, but I don't need to avoid it nearly as much as some of y'all do.

I can watch it in a healthy, non-self-loathing way. I don't think that is the case for most of y'all.

Y'all seriously need to get over it.

Not buying your healthy non-bothered BS at all, any mention of Luka sends you into a goaltending tizzy. Like it or not this trade and how it ultimately plays out is part of the Mavs' story from now on.

It's y'all's constant self-loathing and ongoing pity party that annoys me.

Not even three weeks since our franchise traded away the (now)26 year-old fan favorite and possible future face of the NBA for a broke down center & only garnered ONE first round draft pick...meanwhile the league and everyone in the basketball world continues talking about the implications...

But still being pissed about it is considered a pity party? What the f *ck ever.

I don't think there's anyone who wasn't disappointed with the Luka trade and return but there were also other things in play. They also unloaded 2 bad contracts in Maxi and Morris and got a legit player in Max Christie who has flourished with the Mavs. When healthy, this lineup would destroy the Lakers in the playoffs. It's just weird how no one can admit that this team might actually be pretty damn good without Luka.

Sidenote: It's sad in all this that we didn't get to give Maxi a proper send off. Yes, he had a bad contract, and no, he wasn't the same player he was back in the day before the injuries go to him, but I loved that guy. He was a warrior from 2019-22. Dude was like 43% from three during the WCF run. He was underrated in the sense that he could start or come off the bench. I genuinely thought we were onto something when they had him and brought in Zingu.

Godspeed Maxi. Wurzburg has been kind to the little mavericks.

saw this tweet, which is something we all discussed a lot when not arguing with each other

Its another part of the trade that doesnt make sense, becuase we spent the last 2-3 year building a team solely around Luka's strengths and weaknesses. (just like we did with Dirk)

Lakers are going to have to figure that out as well, becuase Luka is ok at defense but hes never going to be a lockdown 1on1 defender on the perimeter.
Guitarsoup

Luka can be ok when he puts in effort, but that is few and far between.

The very first play on that clip, LaMelo walks cross court and points out Luka to hunt him.

Lakers are gonna need a lot of building for him, just like Dallas did. Gafford, Lively, Washington, Naj, and Klay were all about Luka.

Also, the Hornets are pissed about the trade being rescinded and think it was about basketball reasons, not medical reasons.

Rui and DFS aren't really going to cut it for guys to pick up the slack for Luka. Probably going to have to be a multi-year thing, only the Lakers have fewer assets than the Mavs did and they have LeBron who is still filling up the stat sheet, but it not all that great defensively to say the least. Like was pointed out, cherry picking seems to be a legitimate part of his game now.

Holy crap, the Spurs are shutting down Wemby for the season...

Mavs are a lock for a play-in spot at this point.

In non-Mavs news that may affect the play-in, Wemby is out for the Season with a blood clot in his shoulder.

Lakers now have the hardest remaining SOS and they also have 29 games to play still (Mavs have 26). Could mean games without Luka/LeBron or at least it means a very tired team.

Mavs are only 3.5 back of the Lakers... 4.5 back of the Rockets who area young team in a free-fall. Clippers have the 6th hardest remaining SOS and are 2 ahead of the Mavs. Mavs have 2 games against LAC in April when it's possible that AD and Lively are back.

Not saying it's likely, but there is a chance the Mavs can sneak in to 6. Gotta stay afloat in the meantime.

Fortunately, the Mavs are in a great position to do so, so long as Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively, and Daniel Gafford come back soon enough to keep the team afloat and all of those guys plus 35-year-old Klay and 33-year-old Kyrie can stay healthy for an extended duration of time. Fortunately, they're all pretty young so if this year doesn't work out, they can run it back for the next 1-2 years!

Totally fine admitting the Mavs might be pretty good temporarily if AD can get healthy (huge if obviously). They could absolutely make some noise in the playoffs this year if everything goes right.

The problem is a huge segment of the fanbase doesn't care anymore, and another segment wants to see the front office and ownership fail miserably so they would actually prefer if they were bad. Sports fandom is about way more than just wins and losses, that's what some of you don't seem to get.
