Floated to Mavs fans too. What do y'all think?

keldon
+ Return pick swap in 2030 (keep pick swap with Minn)
+ #20 if our targets aren't there or 27 ATL pick

For

PJ Washington

He makes about 12-13% of the cap for the next 4 years.

I think it's too risky for our chemistry. Also Keldon is one of the horses that will get us through the regular season. He doesn't have the game to excel in the playoffs but I think he'll be a key part of making the regular season successful.

Keldon's chemistry is ideal, but his contact and Julian's are the only real trading chips unless a team is really desperate for a PG.

Negatives about PJ are I don't believe in his shot and I think he is paid a little too much.

Trading Keldon would allow us to use the full MLE ,too.

I want Keldon on the team but also man those were some rough playoffs minutes and we need a PF banger so bad

I haven't looked at the contracts/MLE options, etc, but how do we trade Fox and the Atlanta or maybe their pick/Minnesota pick back and get Naz Reed, Ayo Daysunmu and Mike Conley.

Conley gives us the vet presence PG that Fox didn't provide. Daysunmu gives us another ball handler and scorer with solid rim pressure, Naz gives us the PF upgrade we desperately need and I think he's getting better each year.

Ayo and Conley are FAs and Conley is washed.

Wolves want to dump Randle and keep Naz. Trade doesn't work

Question from someone who watched every spurs playoff game but not much at all in regular season. Are y'all sure that a physical PF is who you want to pair with Wemby? To me, that would clog up the lane even more and would allow wemby to think he should operate outside the pain even more, which is not what I would want. I would want to pair him with a stretch 4. Ideally, a stretch 4 who can also bang on defense but that's hard to find. The stretch 4 would open up the paint and lobs more, which is where Wemby should excel.

I know he's very young and could grow into a better offensive game where you could give it to him and alllow him to create from the 3 point line or from outside the paint. But it was painful watching him try to do so over and over again in the playoffs most games. I just see that happening more with a physical 4.

Also, on defense I want Wemby guarding the physical players on the other team who may not shoot that well so that he can roam. If you have a physical 4, would that mean Wemby is guarding stretch 4s on defense?

I think Cenac would pair well. Spurs do need a better enforcer/rebounder type big off the bench. Kornet was just alamost unplayable all playoff.

Agree though that I would prefer more of an athletic 4 who is also a threat offensively to start next to Wemby. I think Cenac fits that mold. He's young and raw though.

The two Michigan guys would be more ready to impact the game immediately.

Could also see the Spurs go with Evans from Duke. They need to add more shooting and I am not sure how confident they are in a Champegnie deal.

It needs to be a guy that can be physical and also not clog up the paint on offense. The blueprint would be guys like OG or Aaron Gordon. Neither is obviously happening.

Bobby Portis works. PJ works. I think Beef stew works as a PF/C.

I'm super high on Morez Johnson in the draft and high on Yaxel as well.

My concern with Cenac is he seems to shy from contact and physicality and we need someone that is physical. As you said, a project. Great athlete and great size.

Evans did poorly at the combine and supposedly not well in some workouts. I'm more interested in Carr. I think Evans is a trade back guy but if we do that, get a positional for like Reed or Zuby

Conley hit some huge shots against us. I think you trade him and Fox in the NBA finals and we win it all.

Johnson and Yaxel should be at the top of our boards without question.

Sam Vecenie's breakdown of Yaxel sums it up perfectly: "My idea here is basically, 'What if you made Rui Hachimura a terrific defender who could also pass?' Or, what if Lendeborg is just a slight step below OG Anunoby? That's an awesome player, and one whom every team is going to want even if he's almost 24 years old."

I wonder if we'll be more aggressive in seeking out a trade to lock in Yaxel/Morez, it seems like we're needing a very specific type of player to really round out the team.

I certainly would be. We are a piece or two away from actual domination and our main core is young and still getting better

I hope we're aggressive, but history says we won't be.

Also, the Knicks and the Thunder single covered Wemby and were mostly successful. That was a huge part of our struggles down the stretch, you can't really be a super star on offense if you don't command a double. Steph Curry's super power was getting the whole defense to have eyes on him, and to a degree Wemby is the same but he doesn't move enough on offense to really use his gravity to open the floor for his teammates like Curry can.

What we need is someone that can force other teams to double. That might be Harper soonish, but I think a post scoring beast will help unlock Wemby more than anything in the playoffs by warping opposing defenses and opening up more cuts to the hoop for easy buckets and lobs.

Wemby was tired and worn. The Spurs managed his minutes well enough last year but he has to ramp up more and build his conditioning. He was not ready for the jump in minutes. He needs to play more minutes in the regular season, especially over the last 6-8 weeks and just miss a game due to "injury" to keep him rested. Playing minimal minutes wears his conditioning down when he needs to play a bunch more games at 40+ minutes per.

I actually think one of the biggest positives of this season was seeing Wemby play 85+ games this season and 40+ minutes in multiple games down the stretch without injury. A lot of people weren't sure he would be able to do that. Spurs gotta find a way to get better big help off the bench so the drop off is not as intense when he's out of the game.

Sure, send us #3 to draft Boozer.

I don't think they want to pair Giddey and Fox. That back court makes no sense..

I wouldn't mind stalking Jalen Smith or Tre Jones if we do ship Fox.

But I don't think there is a realistic chance of us doing that

My guess is there may be some teams trolling in hopes we'll give up significant draft capital to unload Fox's contract, which I don't see us doing.
AggieEP
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There is some logic to a bad team eating the contract basically for free and hoping that he puts up empty stats that rebuild his value. But, finding a way to make 50 million in salary fit basically makes this a non-starter because we'd have to take back junk in any deal just to move off his contract and I'm not doing that if I'm the Spurs.

I'm also not convinced that his value is really all that damaged. He's still a good teammate and an elite ball handler that can get you into your offense. I think the elite finisher is still in there, he just hasn't/isn't asked to be that person by us. This idea that he's going to decline at 30 is dumb, he's not 36.

Only deals I'd consider if I was in charge would be something like Fox/Champ for Jrue/Camara, or Fox/Champ for Dejounte/Trey. I'm sure those teams don't do those deals which means I sit on Fox and hope that he will be the player he's been previously again for us and not the turd layer we saw in the Finals. I like to win trades and not be forced to pay someone to take my bad contract, so I keep Fox even if it means we have a problem in 3 years... because that's 3 years from now and I'm not worried about that right now.

I think fans think we will panic trade but I don't think teams believe that. Spurs are stingy with their assets.

Bulls do have cap space and could do something lopsided financially like Fox for Smith and the Spurs would actually have cap space this year. But we aren't doing that

Unfortunately not. Look at his shooting percentage. It was atrocious how bad he was. Harper would have gotten the bulk of Fox's minutes and Conley would have spelled him for a few minutes here and there and I think we could have won it all. Fox was that bad.

Not true. They didn't ever follow the Spurs. He was asked about that a while back. Everyone he follows is a personal friend or family, with the exception of his agent and Under Armor (contractually obligated)

He does that to keep himself insulated from all the noise.

I dont think Fox is going anywhere but I also assume everyone other than Wemby/Castle/Harper are untouchable. I also think he played the last dozen games or so on a bad ankle and had pretty much no lateral quickness or elevation and played like doodoo ass because of that.

Seeing the absolute toxicity on the socials and pretty much everywhere kinda shocked me...I suppose this is what its going to be like in this age when the Spurs are good...the hot taek merchants are just spamming everything and man, I guess I just miss the days of talking ball with the sickos on this board or God forbid, spurstalk back in the day. Its just hard to avoid every single shhtpost out there. Used to be you had to be some sort of cuppycup level auteur and you could blow everyone away with a 6 second gif you probably spent hours on. Now kiddos are making AI edits while doing fortnite dances.

I'm tired, boss.
