Would take a flyer on Richie Saunders, him and Quiantance can do rehab together in G league this year. Can never have enough 3pt shooting.

Yeah, I like that path. Still feel like the rotation is missing a dude who could reliably hit 40+% from three. Like Luke Kennard or something. Keldon is a tough one. Obviously a huge locker room guy and regular season minutes eater but not a playoff basketball player.

The Ryen Russillo pod had a pretty long interview with T. Reed on 6/15. Might want to go listen, I thought he came across very well

I think the spurs peaked early and were not build properly to compete for a title...but they did. Playoff rotation was extremely light and Keldon and Fox disappeared. I don't think we need to throw them out, but trust them (and Mitch) learned from it and will rebound next year. These 2 picks are tremendous. Forces your bully ball big man to cover them and lets Wemby roam and move around vs a 4 and not get shoved around. Hopefully he bulks up some. Still find a stretch 3&D 4 and some knock down 3 shooter role players. This creates incredible spacing. If JQ gets healthy, that is an unbelievably athletic and talented interior. Twin Towers on steroids.

I already liked him but an attitude like this wins championships.

Guitar's Dean Wade dream would REALLY make sense now that we've seen the draft shake out, to the point I join him in hoping that's who we target with the MLE

Wish we would have drafted Raynaud with last years second round pick that we sold. I like Kornet, but we could have used Raynard last year. Nobody knew he was going to be that good though.

We don't need two more rookies, I would package them to move up and take a flier on a power forward.

Spurs were proven right about Kawhi. He doctor shopped to get someone to say it wasn't tendinopathy and was ossification which can heal, but he and the Clippers now call it tendinopathy

Yeah, we need Julian to be Sam Hauser or Phoenix Cam Johnson.

I think with Reed and JQ, what we will see more is an expectation of Harper, Fox, Castle to take on a bigger role in the offense. I think to keep Wemby from tiring out, we brought in two athletic bigs that can't stretch the floor but will feast as roll men and screeners. Reed's max vertical was just 33", but his standing (no step) was 30" (74th percentile while at 265lbs.) With a 9'2" standing reach, that means he gets up without needing a runway - similar to DeAndre Jordan.

I think in Reed (and eventually JQ minutes) we will see more of Wemby playing a threatening spot up shooter role to pull out their good defender and a PnR motion with the guards and center. This will keep Wemby from having to burn energy fighting down low for large stretches of the game. Both Reed and JQ should be athletic enough to move multiple places when they have to plus they have huge wingspans to go with their athleticism, which helps against the quicker perimeter players.

He's 18. His interviews much have been so great. GSG!

It's an interesting thought that maybe this signals Wemby to move to more of a stretch 4 role, to play alongside a more traditional center. Let the new rookie centers set the hard screens for the guard talent and, fight the bigs down low while Wemby bombs away from 3?

But these draftees offer a similar skillset to Kornet (good rim presence, but no outside shooting at all) and we really never saw French Vanilla play together much or make much of a difference. Part of that may have been the need to spread minutes just from a survival standpoint or maybe Kornet just lacked the necessary athleticism. I think the main improvement from Kornet will be the ability to switch on the perimeter, at least with Q once he's healthy.

Or maybe we shop Kornet in the next year or two and these are just backup Center moves and will rarely play them with Wemby, kind of like Kornet.

I think it will be a limited amount of double big with Wemby being a stretch 4 just to take that pressure off Wemby and will depend on matchups a lot. I don't think it is a full time thing at all.

I dont think the Spurs will move Kornet at all, because he is still an elite rim protector and this year is his last guaranteed season on his contract. He is also cheap and a declining contract. I expect him to be left available in the expansion draft in 2028. JQ+Reed accounts for just $7M in cap space combined. JQ+LK+TR combined is less than Jarrett Allen by himself. So from a roster contstruction standpoint, we are in a fantastic spot with those three.

The front office needed to address 2 things this offseason: 1) rim running big, 2) a shooter. Check #1 off the list. They're going after shooters next.

And just to make most of us feel old. Quaintance was born in July of 2007. That means he has only been alive for one Spurs championship and he was 7 when they won that one!

He can't be serious about CMB, Graves, and Barnes as the most imposing frontcourt team this decade.

I would think Giannis would like a word. Also Nuggets, Knicks, several teams I would take over that.

Yeah that's ridiculous, especially when right after we have Wemby, Tarris, Q, and Carter all 22&under
AggieEP
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah I think the biggest piece of info that I take away from this draft is that the Spurs are aware that Wemby just might never be a dominant post player and may be more deadly if we can bring in another big that demands the attention of the opponents big to free him up to attack more favorable matchups.

Think of Hartenstein or Mitchell Robinson being forced to guard Tarris so he doesn't bully a smaller defender. This has a trickle effect on all other matchups and might gain us some serious advantages.

Conversely, when we eventually see some Wemby and Quaintance minutes, if Wemby can pull the big out on him to the perimeter Jayden might go crazy on the offensive boards and be a huge threat from the dunker spot for lobs and drop offs with smaller weaker defenders on him.

I still would have liked to pick up Cenac and Quaintance because I see Reed as having a hard ceiling, but it's not tough to see how these picks can create some new tactical advantages for us. Luke does some things very well, but he doesn't have a bully ball game and he's not an elite perimeter defender. These picks give us some diverse ways to deploy lineups next year.

I think it highlights how great a fit someone like Aaron Gordon or OG would be. If you place a big on Wemby, then this player takes his smaller guard down low and bullies him. If you put a guard/wing on Wemby, then he goes down low and this player can line up open threes if anyone ever tries to help.

Outside of Boozer and Morez, I don't think that archetype player existed in this draft so the FO prioritized getting bigger over shooting which was probably the right move.

And if you look at the guys who were drafted 20+ the shooters were:

Philon - 175lbs
Carr - 185lbs and apparently shot poorly in team workouts causing him to drop
Sergio - was apparently a draft and stash, but the Mavs want to bring him over, not sure he is a good defensive player or not
Karaban - 37% for the last three years in college and subpar athlete

I liked Carr and Sergio, but the upside on JQ is WAY higher.
