One thing I keep having to remind myself while looking at possible trades and picks is that we could do absolutely nothing to our roster this off-season and still compete for a championship next year.

This plus for me I'm just thinking...we don't *need* a future All NBA PF in the draft this year. We need someone (or a couple of dudes) to play league average minutes at the PF slot. That's all. Huge bonus if they can shoot and defend a little. Massive bonus if they're good at either. The way draft night 1 shaped up for us is that PATFO sees Wemby as more Dirk than Duncan and are reshaping the roster with that in mind. Those Mavs teams had big dudes like Erick Dampier and Tyson Chandler playing the 5 next to Dirk. Wemby can effectively play the 5 on D (and get help from JQ/others) and the 4 on offense and that unlocks a lot of different looks without just hoping we can get the ball to Wemby and wishing for the best when we need a basket.

But, to me, this is all the more reason to go 'all in' while this group is (relatively) inexpensive.

One thing that encourages me on JQ is that our staff has to have learned a lot about keeping knees and feet healthy working with Wemby.

He hasn't really had any feet or knee issues other than that mild hyperextension/bone bruise.

The only ACL problem that I can think of that we dealt with is DeJounte Murray's. He came back and played 65+ games the next three years and made the All Star Game.

Maybe you could include Blair, but he didn't have any ACLs when we drafted him.

I'm crediting the staff with the preventive work. Some of its luck for sure but some of it likely has to due with advanced treatment.

Rockets move up to pick Bruce Thornton. Strange pick.

I don't disagree. The thought just keeps me grounded when I get too caught up in the weeds. I love our two picks.

I don't think this guy is connected but he claims to be.

If they want 60, my thought of 45-50 is probably right

I would love if Sharp fell to us

Every pick except two (magic and raptors) were picks that were historically traded. Teams trade second round picks like Pokmon cards.

Gosh darn I would have given them our 27 first for stew.

Dang anti tanking rules. No way in h Memphis would have traded for him if it wasn't for anti tanking,

Pre-Draft Analysis
Strengths: Gillespie offers some microwave scoring ability from deep and is a pest defensively for his size.

Weaknesses: He's more of a scorer than a distributor, and lacks ideal size for his position. He can frequently be streaky and reliant on tough shots to make his presence felt.

The verdict: After starting his college career at Belmont, Gillespie had good years at Maryland and Tennessee while playing his way into the NBA picture. He profiles as a potential bench option if his scoring ability can outweigh his size concerns. -- Woo

Not a huge fan of the Gillespie pick, but we'll see. I love his defense, but not a big fan of undersized guards.

3 times they mentioned his lack of size. I don't really get this pick,

Losing out on Stew for 2nd rd picks and picking a small guard are not what I had envisioned. Guess you just have to trust PATFO.

Pre-Draft Analysis
Strengths: Brown is an agile and versatile defensive big who can switch onto the perimeter and has good instincts around the ball. He's efficient in finishing the opportunities he gets in the paint.

Weaknesses: He is often a nonfactor as a scorer, lacking a reliable jumper or the ability to create for himself. What you see on that end is what you get.

The verdict: Brown's defense made him quite valuable at Duke, but he will need to expand his offensive game in some fashion to have a chance of sticking long term in the NBA. -- Woo

Also don't get that pick. He has no offensive game and isn't big enough to get on the floor.

These two 2nd round picks will be nothing more than summer league and G league fillers...a sub 6ft PG and. 6'9 SF who shot 17% on 3s and 50% FT his senior year aren't sniffing any playing time this year.

Exactly. It's a letdown but I understand filling out a summer league team. Ready to see more of DJG hopefully gets playing time next year,

They wouldn't get playing time anyways on this team who just played in the finals. There aren't enough minutes to go around. Brown has an elite skill. He either expands his offensive game and carves out a career or flops. Gillespie's scoring either translates or it doesn't. That's kind of what you expect out of second rounders.

He's the same size as JMac and plays good defense.

I'm just curious what we do at PF. Looking forward to Free Agency. It sounds great to think Wemby is going to be Dirk on steroids, while bombing away at 40% from 3 pt range with a much improved off the dribble game and that may actually happen with as good and determined as Wemby is, but that's a big ask in one off-season.

With a true center that can't shoot like Kornet and the two we just drafted, I think whoever is guarding the center will just sag off and clog the paint if we can't make them pay from 3. We saw that at times even with Wemby at the 5, likely to be even worse with Wemby at the 4. We have to shoot them out of that strategy.

So I think improved shooting is the final piece and ideally a starting PF that can hit the 3 in the mid-30%, rebound and defend the perimeter a little. That skill set is already quite rare and the available players are dwindling.

Maybe we just pay Champ $15M and run it back as and that's fine if we do. They earned it after this year, but I really hope we take a swing at a couple shooters including a potential starting PF that can shoot the 3.

Atlanta got Veesar at 52. Atlanta had a great draft. Saw Flemings play a few times, he's going to be good. Also liked Zuby, now they have Veesar.

I think we will have to resign Julian. Yeah he's streaky, but he was also our best shooter this year.

After that I think if we could just sign a stretch four that can shoot we are set.

Julian is under contract for next year no matter what. Team option. Not sure why it's a big deal to sort that out this off-season before free agency even starts.

If he's demanding 4/60 and we think it's 4/45, it's real easy to say prove it and we can see what the market says.

I don't think he's a full MLE guy. I don't think he's gets that on the market and I don't think he's super difficult to replace
