2027 is generally considered a pretty weak draft whereas this year is very deep. Plus, that 2027 pick will probably be worse than this year. I think it's worth the gamble.

I don't see them doing that but who knows. They are going to want to be able to keep building the back end of the roster out with rookie deals where they can.

My gut tells me that the Spurs make a trade tonight. I don't know if they move up or down but I think they will move.
I have no basis for this other than the players that could/should be available at 20.
They would need to move up to get a top PF type player. If they choose not to move up, they might be able to get two players like Reed and Ejiofor.
It just feels like a trade is happening.

I'm not necessarily convinced the hawks are going to be a shoe-in playoff team. There are going to be a lot of healthier teams in the east this year. I think it's a possible lottery pick and that point, you never know. I'd rather hold on to next year's pick and take who's available at 20.

They really need to figure out what they are going to do with Champegnie. Really the only realistic valuable trade piece if they feel a deal won't be made with him. If you move him for someone like Stewart (assuming the rumors are true) than needs start to change.

I would consider keeping Champ for his last year and not extending or trading him.

With Portis likely off the board in the Heat trade there isn't a ton of free agent shooting out there at the PF spot.

Trading your best (albeit streaky) shooter has some risk, but so does locking him in to $10+M a year when his defense really got exposed and his shooting was feast or famine.

If he makes further strides in consistency or defense next year then sign try to sign him then.

That also buys you time to see how Bryant, your draft pick and any PF we pick up integrate into the team.

The financial market is still somewhat figuring itself out. You see crazy contacts like Young and Fox and then you see some real bargain contracts out there too. I think it's worth the risk on Champ to let it play out unless you get a tremendous trade offer or he's willing to sign for like $5-7M per season. I bet the front office wishes they had employed a similar strategy on Fox.

$10mm would be a steal. I'm afraid he's going to be asking for $18-$20mm.

I would rather have Colin Gillespie and he just signed for 4/48. That's my ceiling now. I think he's hard to trade beyond that because he's legitimately a backup wing that can't dribble, pass or create and doesn't really have his lateral movement

You can always put top 4 on it and no one will blink.

We also have a roster number problem with the expansion draft coming.

I think the Hawks are a mixed bag and could really be anything. Adding Wiggins for nothing certainly helps and CJ is a good fit.

What do we think about John Collins at PF for the MLE? Is that realistic?

He only really works defensively as a small ball center playing weakside help. He gets lost in perimeter rotations and would be an awful fit for our switching pressure defense.

I think he's a good stat bad team guy

His 3pt shooting looks nice and he appears athletic enough to be a serviceable defender.

You think he would be worse than Julian on D?

Colin is the shooter some of you think Champ is. He's an elite shooter, he can run the offense and he is a good defender.

Dive deep and he's a better player and the analytics back it up .

I'd be on the phones all day with Chicago, I think they want to win now and there might be some moves that make sense for both teams.

It's one place where a Fox trade makes sense too.

I would do that, but hope to get Jalen Smith in the mix, too.

We would have 52.5M outgoing and 35.5 incoming. They would still have cap space but also might want us to eat Okoro, which is fine.

They would have really clean books.
