The only spot in the lineup that could use an upgrade is 2nd base, assuming Ozzie doesn't come back this year. But the lineup is good enough to get by with Arcia and Gosselin handling that spot.

They don't really need to add a starting pitcher, unless they plan on limiting Strider's innings at some point. Teams are always looking to add bullpen arms, but they're pretty deep there already.

On top of all that, the prospect pool is a little depleted at the moment, so they don't have the chips to pull off a at blockbuster. It's not really AA's style, but I could see them standing pat at the deadline this year.

With Rosario back, Ozuna needs to stay at the DH in my opinion. We are much better defensively with Duvall or Rosario in left. Rosario also adds a left handed batter to the lineup.

Last season we rotated Rosario, Duvall, Joc, and Soler in the outfield without the DH. So, I think you can do the same thing with Duvall, Rosario, Harris, and Acuna, with strategic rest days and let Ozuna have the DH spot.

Cannot see them needing any starting pitching, especially if Soroka can get back in the mix after the Allstar Break, which is still up in the air after he took a comebacker on the knee, which has delayed his rehab assignment.

Just hard to see them doing much from a trade standpoint considering how well they have been playing , as opposed to where they were last season, but hey, you never know.

Riley gets in going early again. 2 run dinger with 2 outs in the bottom frame of the first.

Braves have 163 two out RBIs, best in baseball according to Jeff Francour.

Did it with the long ball in the first, now doing it with singles in the 4th. 4 straight singles get two more runs across, with an opportunity to get some more. 4-1 Braves.

Wright having a good game, behind a couple of really good double play turns by Arcia. He has 54 pitches through 5 innings, only blemish is a solo homer by Soto. Fortunately, one of those double plays turned by Arcia emptied the bases before that homer.

Picked up the win. It got interesting. A little too interesting in the 9th. But, they got it done.

Win number 51!

Goodness Marlins…

They lead off the 10th with an infield hit and an error to end up with a runner on second, no outs, and the lead. Runner gets picked off at second by the catcher, and next two batters go down.

In the bottom half of the 10th, their closer just blows away the first two batters and its looking like our Braves are about to be 1.5 games out of first.

Then their third basemen lets an easy grounder get by him to allow the free runner to score and the batter gets to second. Next batter hits a grounder back to pitcher.

He bobbled it, but had time. Instead, he rushes and skips it past the first baseman.

Mets win. Marlins TV crew left in disbelief. Braves still 2.5 games back.

Swanson Acuna Riley Fried Wright

Nm espn article is misleading. It's Acuna Contreras Swanson Fried D'Arnaud

Two catchers from one team selected for the All Star Game. That's crazy.

Also, the Braves got Cano from the Padres today for cash. It's been awhile since he was good, so this is basically just a lottery ticket.

Not going to say it is a sure lock, but the Braves currently have the third best record in the NL and fifth best record in the MLB. They were a few games under .500 at the start of June.

Currently sitting 5.5 games in front for the top wild card spot and 1.5 games out of the NL east lead, with a chance to take the division lead this week, as we have three against the Mets up next.

No reason they should not be in the post season.

Riley had a heck of a game. He tied it in the 8th and then got the walk off hit. He also had another hit for an RBI earlier in the game.

We missed some chances to break the game open and let the Nats hang around, but the bullpen was pretty much lights out. No runs in three extra innings with a free runner on second is impressive.

Lee did give up the homer after coming in for Anderson in the 6th (Ian walked two in a row), but that was the only blemish. Really encouraging to see Ian have another good start.

It would take a catastrophic collapse to miss the playoffs. They're currently on pace for 97 wins. St Louis is the first team out of the playoffs at the moment, and they're on pace for 85 wins. The Braves would have to go 33-42 the rest of the way (that's a 0.440 winning percentage) to finish with 85 wins. Even if they play 0.500 the rest of the way, they'll finish with 90 wins, which should easily be good enough to get in.

CBSsports shows their post season probability at 97%. Now, anything can happen with injuries, but assuming decent health the rest of the way, this team is too good to play that so poorly over a 75 game stretch that they would miss the playoffs altogether. Honestly, I think they catch the Mets, break 100 wins and win the division by at least 3 games. And that starts today with the Mets coming to Atlanta for 3 games. Fried vs Scherzer should be a great matchup!

Looks like we dropped Gossenlin to move up Cano.

Cano is starting tonight in place of Arcia.

Not sure I get that, but I guess we will see how it works out.

Yea, we had a power outage (from a t-storm) and was not able to watch. Followed on my phone. Looks like has just not had it from the get go.

Meanwhile, the other Max has been lights out. Hoping we can get to him the second time through the lineup.

Cannot recall the last time seeing Fried constantly falling behind 3-0. Don't believe he is 100%.

Cano…

Has our only hit tonight and just turned the a huge double play (granted, he went the hard way to do it, but got it done).

Scherzer is just dominant right now. One hit, and that is the only base runner of the night, through 6.

Scherzer makes a mistake to Dansby and the wind keeps it just in the ballpark.

Big hit from Austin, cuts the lead to one.

Ozuna doubles after Riley homer, but we can't push him across. It does flip the line up, so we will have 7-8-9 in the bottom of the 8th. Also pushed Scherzer past 90 pitches, so I imagine he is done for the night.

And just like that, O'Day gives up a homer.

3-1 Mets.

Missed a big chance to get some runs in the bottom of the 8th after a Cano single and Acuna double. Swanson grounds out on the first pitch to end inning.

Stephens walks the first batter in the top half of the 9th, and predictably, it bites us as that runner scores.

Now 4-1 Mets.

Rough night. Olson with an 0-4, 4k night. Had opportunities, could not capitalize.

Strider takes the mound tomorrow night. Hoping he can continue to be as dominant as he was his last outing.

We also traded Waters, Hoffman, and Alexander to the Royals for a CB draft pick(#35). I'm curious if the Royals can get more out of Waters, we just didnt have a place for him. This gives us another 2+ million in draft pool money to play with.

Man…have to wake up the bats. Second game in row where we only have one hit through 5 innings. That is just not going to get it done.

Braves second hit of the night…

A two-run dinger by Olson!

Made the Mets pay for a one out walk.

2-1 Braves!

Matzek relieved Strider in the 5th and got a big out with Lindor on 3rd to keep it a one run game. Matzek came back out and followed up with a 1-2-3 6th inning.

McHugh gets a 1-2-3 7th inning. Lets see if we can add a run or three here…

Minter goes 1-2-3 in the 9th. Braves bullpen only allow a single base runner in 4 1/3 innings of work to seal the win.

Chance to win the series and move to a half game back.

Morton takes the mound for the Braves tomorrow night.

ETA: Correction. Bullpen went through 4 1/3 innings with just a single base runner.

Harris making an impact.

Hits a 2 run dinger to give the Braves the lead, 4-2 in the top frame of the 5th.

In the bottom frame of the 5th, he throws out Garcia at the plate after a Soto base hit to keep it 4-2 and get the second out.

Kyle gets out of the inning after three straight base hits (all singles) from the Nats without giving up a run.

Olson homers in his third straight game!

Now 5-2 Braves.
