Sounds like a great deal for us. Usually you get a big discount if you sign guys very early. Look at the Corbin Carrol contract. But Bobby from KC got a massive contract considering how early he signed. Bobby may have changed the market for early signings. Probably looking at 25 million AAV.

It ends up screwing the CBT, though.

Instead of hitting $700K on the CBT this and next year, if he gets a $25M avg, it will impact this and next year. Granted it helps in the later years as we can get him for cheaper and don't have to worry about FA.

Very widely reported that we are going to reset CBT this year. It would explain what we are saving it for. Although I think they want some dry powder for the trade deadline.

I may have undershot Langford. We'll see more of his personality this season and see "who he is."

I think the Rangers did him a solid by committing to him in '24 and getting a full service year. If they commit to a long-term deal, then I would suspect he slots at the 3-hole in the lineup.

That may explain why the Rangers want to get a deal done soon. The contract you mentioned appears very reasonable and may be in range that is offered. If we wait and Langford performs like we think he will the price tag may be in the Bobby range.

I think you may be over estimating Wyatt. Jackson Chourio singed for 8/$82M before he debuted. It can go up to 10/$132M with team options. Chourio was younger and less proven, so Wyatt probably gets more, but I could see him doing 8/140-150. Then he'd hit FA again at 31.

I think Chourio is likely older than published.

His 8yrs are 3Serf, 3Arb, and 2 FA yrs.

Langford has 2Serf and 3 Arbs. I think the teams/agents can easily project and account for similar values in Arb. It is the FA years that has the most deviation, IMO.

So, we can probably come to an agreement on here what the 5 yrs will cost. If you only want 2 yrs... or do you want 6yrs of FA. My yrs are probably higher than Langford's agent wants. Being a FA again at 33 is less attractive than 31 or 32.

I have grown to question the intelligence of a player that chooses Scott Boras as representation. Teams know his playbook and don't seem nearly as eager to play ball with him like they used to.

On the other hand, he gets deals done for other players. They aren't all late signings. The player can say yes to any deal on the table, despite what Boras says.

What would've happened if Bregman re-signed with the Astros……I guess we'll never know.

I think 3/$40 AAV is a huge win for Boras. By AAV, Bregman just singed the 6th biggest contract in MLB history.
