Serious question… what's stopping other teams from giving out the Ohtani deal and cheating system?

Let's go get Juan Soto and pay him all his money starting in 2035 after he's retired with 4 rings for us

One of the biggest is the assurance the dodgers have from a market size perspective. KC could never do this because KC ain't 20 million people.

The other reason is, while almost all the other teams are taking haircuts on their regional tv rights, the dodgers got an guarantee from their local tv partner (they are co-owners of the network) to pay their fulll rights plus the partner would cover any network losses, guaranteeing the dodgers both their full rights and now non-existent revenue from the RSN. If memory serves, this was a very long term rights deal, maybe 30 years? So the Dodgers and only the dodgers have tv revenue certainty well into the future.

If I'm a small market team I'm ready to raise holy hell (and they probably already have). Yet Manfred sits on his hands.

Those fires should have started with the Ohtani contract. Do they win last year without him? If they were forced to sign him to a conventional contract, who else would they not have been able to afford? Do they win without them?

Small market teams cannot compete with what LA is doing financially, especially, as one poster mentioned above, when arbitrary rules are put in place to contravene the novel, yet effective, methods of leveling the competition on the field of play.

By today's money, Snell is getting 5/162.5 for ages 32-36.

Would you prefer Bregman or Snell for that pricepoint?

Bregman. I trust a hitter to age better than a pitcher. Not to mention over that window I would expect a decent chance at a TJ

And to add one more datapoint regarding the Dodgers, their regional rights fee is 4 to 7 times larger than the small markets like Cincinnati, Milwaukee, KC, etc.

We aren't too far off the Red Sox in revenue, which is interesting. We have the wherewithal to approach $300M in payroll. Still wish we would just throw the bag at Soto and trade anyone we needed to to make that work financially.

I said it before in the Scrooge tweet.

That's misleading ad you don't know what else is on the owners cost side. It's more than player salaries that's for certain. Front office/coaching and staff salaries and benefits, any sunk costs for running a business, taxes, stadium costs and fees. Anything imaginable.

And since owners will never open their books we will never know how good or bad they have it.

We're at a peak after the run we're on. They haven't been all that relevant the last 6 years.

He was basically Jake Meyers offensively last year and was one of the worst defensive 1B in the league. Sign Rojas if you want a rehab IF, at least he can play multiple positions and is left handed.

I'm pretty sure Ty France hits like .400 at MMP… at least that's what it felt like when he came to town

Ty France was technically still arbitration eligible. He's so bad he's now a year FA early.

Having said that, it was a strange move when Seattle released him last year. They didn't actually improve themselves when they did.

At the Houston Thanksgiving Day parade. I said hello to some of the Shooting Stars on behalf of you guys while Mrs. Marvin was distracted with Orbit.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

He does it any time he faces the Astros. He is unwashed ass in all other games. For the record, I'm against signing him, but seeing this and Carlos Santana floated is concerning. If we end up going that route we should have just kept Abreu rather than lighting the money on fire.

Everyone just remember that his agent is Scott Boras. So anything out there has a decent chance of being pure fiction.

Obviously… but I doubt anybody does. Unless the dodgers defer it all

If he goes to the Red Sox, then they probably are out on breggy. They want to get some big pitchers too.

Will the Yankees desperately overpay for one year of Tucker if Soto goes to Boston? I'm willing to listen if the package starts with Dominguez.

I'm not so sure I want the alien.

I think their response will be to trade for Beli.

They'll wait until he's a UFA and give him 330 over 11 years.

I pray they are stupid enough to trade for Bellinger. Their fanbase would implode.
