I'm surrounded by brick. A lot of new construction in Denver isn't brick but in Denver proper, a lot of homes are brick all the way around.

I didn't mean to imply there is no brick.. just not as consistent as houston from what I see anyway. Go drive around anywhere in houston new or old, and all you see brick, and if not, it's likely a cheap ass house. So that's where your typical 'texan' is coming from.

where in town are you sooner?

Right by the zoo.

It's funny because when you go to some other parts of the US, you won't hardly find a brick house at all...new or old.

I switched to the environmental side of things when I moved here. Consulting to oil and gas companies to track their assets and compliance with regulations using our proprietary software.

In Houston I did about 7 years of downhole design and about a year of gulf of mexico project management.

Any real estate agent recommendations? If none specifically, assuming Keller Williams, etc would be safe choices. Going to be there next weekend and would like someone to drive us around and show us a few properties to get a feel for what we could get in Colorado (all part of the "is it worth it" decision). Thanks!

There are some Aggie real estate agents around, check the Denver Aggie web page.

Plano,

If you leave your email address here, I will send you an email with a real estate agent/broker recommendation.

How bout those Broncos! That #2 seed is looking really nice if we take care of business against the Browns and Chiefs, and I think the Broncos-Pats winner will beat the Texans/4 seed.

I wouldn't be shocked if the 6-seed gives the Pats a scare in the first round.

They will find a way to lose to KC. Seems like they always do.

Broncos will win about 27-10, and I hope Manning throws about 20 passes to make sure his arm is nice and rested. While I know KC has been a pain in our butt at times, they've only scored more than 13 points 2 times total in Oct, Nov, and December.

I don't have anything against Cabelas, but the growth is worrying me. I'm not happy they allowed for a Hampton Inn to be built on my exit (Lincoln & 25), and the IKEA at County Line is another WTF (have to see that eyesore from the back nine of Lone Tree Golf Club).

hah yeh i agree with ikea and that hotel. That hotel is way too close and kills the views in the area. plus the cluster that it will create. Why they didn't put it over closer to the hospital is beyond me.

Cabelas at least looks like a mountain lodge, not a blue and yellow abomination.

Ridgegate has their master plan up http://ridgegate.com/upload/file/ridgegate_aerial_overlay.pdf

lots of growth, of but lots of open space/trails incorporated though. House we bought is about 1-2 miles east of where this map ends at ridgegate/newlin gulch. new light rail station on east side at ridgegate, that's good for us.

Thanks for posting the masterplan; I had not seen that before.

I hope you've got a good sledding hill near you because we should finally be getting a decent snow.

There is a field/park by my house. The field is sunken with pretty nice sledding hills heading down to it. Just look to the left on Lincoln about 300 yards before you get to Lone Tree Parkway. Or look for me doing something stupid on my sled & possibly on my skis (I made a nice jump last Christmas). We could even get a TexAgs sled/beer event if db, SoonerBorn, pedro, etc want to join in.

My brother and I are heading to Denver for our football trip to catch Von and the Broncos in two weeks. Can anyone lend some local advice as neither of us have spent any time in Denver before. Good local bars for the night before?
dbtexasag05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Walton,

Do you have any particular things that you want to do?

Visit the breweries? Catch good food? Take a tour of the city?

It helps to know what your plans are, there is a ton to do in Denver and I know every one of us on this thread has different ideas.

Give us some ideas and we will knock it out of the ballpark for you.

05, we are more interested in just finding some good bars for Friday night and figuring out what part of town we should be in, preferably an area with a few good bars in walking distance from each other. I'd like someplace that has a good selection of local beers. If you know anything about Dallas, I'd like to avoid any generic "West End" type areas, unless that is our only option. Normally our football trips are to college towns so everything is on a much smaller (easier) scale. I was reading a bit online about Lodo over by Coors field. Good/No good?

If you're into old-school arcade games there's an awesome bar called The 1Up right by Coors Field in LoDo. There are probably 50 arcade games and pinball machines, but it's still a crowded bar with cheap beer. It's the bar I spend most of my time at, but I'm a sucker for 80's arcade games.

Alright here goes!

If I was coming to visit for a few days I would attempt to stay pretty close to downtown so my recommendation for the hotel to stay in is The Jet. The Hotel seems like a Hotel at first but at about 10, the entire lobby turns into a bar. They have a VIP underneath the hotel as well. IF you are renting a car you can park right across the street. You are also right off of 16th street so you can have access to the train.

After checking in to the hotel you can walk over to Market street and begin your way east Bar Hopping. I would start at Pats and have a philly cheese steak and some cheap beer. Head upstairs to Crocs for some more beer and possibly a couple of shots. If you are for some reason hungry again, you can have pizza at Two Fisted Marios.

After Pizza, head east and work your way to the "Lodo" area. You can do everything from country western dance to party in the old real world Denver house. I personally find this area a little trendy, but that is where all the ladies hang out.

From here you will have a view of Coors field and if you head over to Blake Street you can head back west and go the "Sports Column" or head east and go to the Breckenridge Brewery.

I would go West to the Sports Column. The place gets pretty out of control and is actually right across the street from 1UP the arcade.

If you like to smoke Cigars pass the Sports Column and head to "The Celtic Tavern". Its an irish bar that has a cool vibe.

Save yourself some time and get back to the hotel about midnight, you have got to see the Jet in full effect. Invite all your new denver friends back for some bottle service and vip action.

Seriously the Jet is the most disfunctional ridiculous party atmosphere of all time, it does not make any sense and it is awesome.

When you wake up hungover on Saturday, take a cab to Cherry Creek. I recommmend getting to the Cherry Cricket at about 11. Have in my opinion the greatest hamburger in Denver. Cricket burger, smoked cheddar cheese and Jalapenos. Also order a side of frings (a combination of onion rings and french fries). Keep an eye on the specials, sometimes they have corndogs and other cool stuff. Also, a beer will help you get in back in shape for the game. The Cricket is where man vs. food ate a burger when coming to Denver. IF you want to be closer to the stadium go to Jack and Grill. This is where man vs food dominated the 7LB burrito. I personally think it is over-rated. Just before the game you can have a couple of beers at the original Broooklynns. I love that bar and it has some good eats as well.

You can either catch a cab to the game, or take the train. I have said it before and been called a racist, but be careful by the stadium after dark. It is not a great place in town.

When partying after the game walk back towards the Pepsi Center and you can eat at the new Brooklyn or continue back into downtown. I am assuming at this point you are somewhat inebriated. If you are not, there are some high end bars in Larimer Square to hang out. Corridor 44 has great martinis, and scotch. There is also a restaurant downstairs called Lime that is a tequila bar. Decent food, and a pretty cool atmosphere.

I am sure I will think of some other things throughout the day, but those were always my spots when I was getting after it downtown.

If I'm driving to Breck coming in on I-70 from Kansas, and I'll be getting in to Denver around what will likely be the beginning of rush hour right to the heart of it, is it a no brainer to take 470 around during that time of day?
dbtexasag05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You are going to be toast either way. If you go north it will take you to boulder and those idiots were too earth caring to let it circle all the way to 70. Go south and I turns into C470 and is no longer a toll road in Park Meadows/ Littleton.

Leave earlier or later.
Pahdz
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah I knew once you got to 25 on the south it wasn't a toll road. I wasn't thinking north due to the reason you stated. I was definitely wanting to get to the mountains before dark, so I guess we'll leave Wichita at like 6 or something to maybe beat traffic.

anybody know approx. price for half day lift ticket at keystone in Jan? The website says they have them, but no price, and I've tried calling and haven't gotten an answer.
I'm assuming it's probably not exactly half of the $98 full day price.. think maybe like 2/3 of that? curious if anyone has ever bought one.
Pahdz
How long do you want to ignore this user?
i thought they did away with half day tickets at all the Vail Resorts places? i'd say you're better off finding a buddy who has an epic pass, as I think they come with a limited amount of buddy passes (i might be totally off here, i just remember a few years back one of our CO resident friends was able to get my wife a half price full day ticket since she had a season pass at Breck...not sure what the deal was).

I didn't think about buddy passes. My aunt and uncle both have epic passes so I'll ask. It does say keystone has half day though. http://www.keystoneresort.com/ski-and-snowboard/lift-tickets.aspx#types#Top

Good to know they have half days. Will be getting to Breck on a Thursday morning, maybe that afternoon I could swing over and shut down Keystone. Or is the half day only good in the morning?
