I have no desire for Coach Yo. She is too much of a sjw.
if you've followed Coach Yo on Twitter, you'd see that despite being one of the most active head coaches on the app, none of her tweets have to do with social justice or anything like that. She keeps it strictly basketball and motivational (unlike Staley). I have no problem with her.

cross posting bc I forgot about this thread:

I think the new coach has to be a head coach in the NCAA tournament right now?? With MissSt announcing their new head coach (Sam Purcell - current Louisville assistant), it seems like perhaps the new coach if he/she is a head coach wouldn't want that distraction on his/her current team. I guess the other two options are that we don't have a new coach lined up yet or that KBW is the new head coach. It's odd that there aren't even any peeps or snippets of info on the message boards. Either we are doing a great job of keeping this secret or we just do not have a coach yet.

I have a good acquaintance that up until recently worked in the the athletic dept at a pretty high level. I asked him what he thought about the situation and he was very blunt about KBW. Says that among the circles that matter as far as the decision makers, she is not well liked off the court and he would be extremely surprised if KBW got the job. He believes that if the big $ donor for basketball wants it they will push for Vic.

Coach Yo seems to be the most likely candidate.

Coach Yo is in her 9th year as a Div 1 head coach, she is 0-1 in the NCAA tournament.

She has a favorable matchup to get her 1st NCAA tourney win this year facing South Dakota in Waco on Friday. South Dakota is a team we played this year, beating them 58-44 in the Virgin Islands.

We need to hire an established winning head coach only. Over.

One that provably recruits well from scratch… not just is "a coach."

With the successful program Schaefer is building at Texas does anyone really think he would leave that situation? I don't. I would like to see the Ole Miss coach get the job.

I think the question is, are we willing to pay that price for his immediate ability to recruit (his daughter is also an up and comer). Some are arguing that his age has to play a factor, although it really shouldn't be an issue.

We all have to admit that we have to go after someone that can recruit the hell out of Texas (and beyond) AND compete with coach Schaefer for the future SEC athletes. (Assuming we don't get Vic)

I've also heard Coach Schaefer only wanted to coach until 65 & he's getting ready to turn 60.

If that's truly the case then his time is winding down to try and win that evasive NC. Starting over after getting his current program off to such a good start would be counterproductive I think.

As much as I am tracking the Coach Yo support, I really like Amaka Agugua-Hamilton....
This is just gonna be a suspenseful final stretch of waiting for the announcement!

The question is whether the donor and administration commitment to the most important women's intercollegiate sport match the expectations of those calling for rapid firing coaches…

Missouri State HC, made sweet 16 last year. Only been HC for 3 years, including this one.

Not sure she has enough of a resume, we should be able to do much better

Who is on your list of "much better"? She is probably the biggest future star out there that has already proven herself when given the opportunity.

And a little background on Agugua-Hamilton:

  • 38 years old
  • 3 years as head coach at Missouri St. with a 73-14 record. Made NCAA tournament every year.
  • 2 years as assistant at Indiana
  • 6 years as assistant at Michigan St. where she was associate head coach

That looks good, but can she out recruit Kim, Vic, Nicki Colleen, Dawn, and Kelli Harper? If so, I'm down.

-EDIT I see she took over for Kelli Harper after Harper went to Tennessee. Looks like she built on what Kelli started but I love the thought of her experience coaching with some of the best. Interesting!

It would guess our leadership already knows who we are going to hire, but no one outside of some small circle seems to have a clue who it is.

Should be a fun few weeks coming up as we get closer.

So, assuming the new coach is someone whose team is currently active in the NCAA tournament, when is the trigger pulled? After the affected team is eliminated? After the entire tournament is complete?

Do we think that Bjork already has the ducks in place and is just waiting to announce or does the negotiation not begin until after whichever game is complete and we could end up scrambling to deal with second/third/fourth choices?

I think it's done but it has been very very hush hush and it may have to be that way in order to prevent the current team from being affected. My personal opinion is that an agreement was made with someone before Gary announced his retirement and that Gary was encouraged to retire. In my mind, whoever it is, wasn't able to leave last season due to contracts, etc. That's just what brain has calculated, but I could be very wrong.

If Ross doesn't already have a candidate I would be shocked and I don't think that's a good sign of things to come.

The silence is telling to me. He's had a year to do the prep work . It would be incomprehensible to me if he has not secure the new coach with a verbal agreement in principle. If he had waited until the end of the season, there would be chatter from the agents trying to get pay raises for their clients.

He has had agents reach out to him and commented on a competitive salary exceeding Gary's. That is either completely deflective PR or they are in the midst of the process.

I would love that a verbal assent was established months ago. But then it should be totally silent. Unless Ross really isn't in charge of the decision, Thrn what he is age is not saying make more sense.

Kind of what I'm thinking. Silence is usually a good sign. The way this season was contrived makes me think this has been in the works for a while.

Remember our best hire ever was by the owner of the Cowboys…we simply do not have the intestinal fortitude to do anything right. But I'm ready to be proven wrong if they hire Dawn Staley.

Names with a less than 0.1% chance as of today of being A&M head coach next year (that we seem to talk about a lot):

Dawn Staley
Vic Schaefer
Geno Auriemma
Kim Mulkey
Kelly Bond-White

How about Hassan Diarra for head coach? He could play for the men's team and coach the women's team. Might be good for recruiting too. The young ladies would love him.

The basis of the list is stated above the names. It is people that there is a tiny, minuscule chance of being our head coach next year that fill up much of the discussion here.

Most of the the reasons are obvious. On some, the timing didn't work out before the barriers became too high for it to make any sense for us to hire them.
