If Vic is the one, I think would be huge. But we know nothing. Which actuslly is fine.
OMG, that would be monumental! But do you really think he would leave the powerhouse he's building? My concern is that he's got the Horns off to such a great start in his first two years. He's already had recruiting success and it is only going to get better as a result. Would he leave that for a total rebuild?
Do I think so? No, Texas is a better women's basketball brand due to Jody's work there. But I like my school more..

If it is Joni Taylor, keep an eye on 2022 Georgia signee Janiah Barker. She's a 6'2" Forward, #3 ranked player in the nation. With the portal, who knows what could happen.

Most solid proof yet that Joni Taylor will be our next coach! I've admired her from afar over the years, and think she'd be a terrific fit for our program! One of the first things about her that made an impression on me was when she was back on the the bench for a game only days after giving birth to her first daughter. She wasn't coaching the team, but she was there. The commentators for that game couldn't believe it. I thought wow this lady is passionate and a go-getter. What a message for her players about commitment! When they beat us last year in the SEC Tourney, it was so obvious the rapport and connection she had with her players. I found myself thinking, man I wish we had someone like that. I just think she's so classy the way she conducts herself. Definitely a bright, up and coming coach. Would love to see her in Aggie Maroon soon!!

I was hoping for Taylor myself. If we had stayed with KBW, we'd have the GB influence out there still and for me, that influence wasn't working.

This will a different basketball program than what we have seen recently and I'm for that.

I never know what to believe when a hire doesn't happen. But I think that would have worked fine…

I still refuse to believe in our most important women's sport that we can't hire the absolute best. I reject we can't get the best. I think $2 million is an economic choice, yes, for getting someone like Jeff (or Dawn for that matter.)

Choosing not to get it done is choosing to not have the best. With that said, I am content with this hire. I've watched her in the sideline and seen her recruiting and I think she has a lot of upside. But Texas A&M needs to develop an administration approach that chooses to be second to none.

The curious escape clause in women's basketball coach Jeff Walz's extension with Louisville
eu.courier-journal.com

Jeff Walz says he'll coach as long as Louisville lets him. His new deal, however, carries a curious escape clause.

The extension approved Friday by the university's athletic association, easily overlooked in the shadow cast by Kenny Payne's hiring as the men's basketball coach, adds one year and more than $3 million to the U of L's women's basketball coach's compensation package that now runs through the 2028-2029 season. But it also affords him an annual opportunity to move from the bench into administration beginning April 1, 2026.
"It's just nice that they were kind enough to put that in there," Walz said after the Louisville women's basketball team crushed Albany 83-51 in Friday's opening round of the NCAA Tournament. "It's one of those things where I want to keep coaching as long as I can, as long as I have that passion to do it.
Round 1: Louisville basketball blows out Albany in March Madness opener, will play Gonzaga Sunday
"I've been here for 15 years, and if I coach out the contract, it's 22. If I'm able to stay around in some form or fashion, I'd love to. I've built so many good relationships here within this athletic department that I'd love to continue to be able to be a part of it."

Or, Walz said jokingly, maybe interim athletic director Josh Heird "is telling me to hit the road."
College coaches don't often reveal their long-term exit strategies. But the last clause might provide a hint about Walz's future, whenever he decides he's done coaching:

"At the conclusion of the fourth year of the contract, or any year thereafter, coach will be given the opportunity to transition to an appropriate administrative position within the (athletic) department, as an employee of ULAA. Compensation will be determined in conjunction with the athletic director, not to exceed a total value of $500,000 annually in compensation and/or contributions to the insurance policy which was established at the beginning of the term. It is anticipated that the term of coach's employment in the administrative position shall extend to the end of the term of this agreement."

Unfinished business: Louisville coach Jeff Walz still chasing NCAA championship and looking for 'a little luck'
Walz has repeatedly hinted he would walk away from coaching upon winning the lottery or an NCAA Championship, and his new deal will pay him at least another $7.1 million (plus incentive bonuses) before he would be eligible to an administrative job. A compulsive saver who still cuts his own grass, the 50-year-old Walz also has two young daughters. Heird knows being there for his kids is important to Walz.

"We've had some conversations," Heird said. "I don't anticipate it (Walz moving into administration). But we want to give him the opportunity if it needed to be there for family reasons. If you talk to him, he'll make it very clear he wants to watch his daughters grow up. And so I think that was an important piece when he and I sat down, making sure that opportunity was available."

As you can see "forget Waltz"

My point isn't that we needed him. If the $2 million is true, though, we let Louisville back at the table. In women's sports there definitely is more parity, but the top programs are head and shoulders above the rest. Under Blair we were hit and miss but given the previous circumstances it was a tremendous career proven by the 2011 run.

I'm perfectly fine with a solid coach that isn't the most expensive. But the school needs a second to none mentality and will one way or the other spend the around $70 million per year under the new ESPN contract. Getting out in front makes it so much easier to stay good.

I think Coach Taylor is a solid hire. I don't care what she's paid. But if she isn't coming in like a Calipari or a Staley, the fans need to show up and support possibly longer while she establishes her approach. And lately the fans have not been patient and it's time for the school to step up in those situations and message what their intention is not to manage expectations but to set them.

I like what Joni said about Ross particularly his commitment to advancing women's sports. It will take tremendous investment to overcome inertia on that. I hope we didn't think hiring the coach was enough…
