Bumping this as I imagine some others are brewing lots at home these days. I invested in an espresso machine just before lockdown and it's the best purchase I've made in years.

Curious where y'all like to order coffee from? A few of my faves:

Fusion Beans - some friends of mine in Houston that roast great coffee, super quick shipping too

Verve Coffee - West Coast roaster I tried a few weeks ago, really good

Intelligentsia Coffee - one of my gotos, need to try their shop in Austin when things open back up

Vernada

Blue Bottle has had free shipping ever since the lockdown shuttered their stores. I've been alternating Giant Steps and Bella Donovan.

Chemex brew.

Tweed out of Dallas and blue bottle. Pleased with both.

Well was in a bad place with coffee options for a while after moving out of Houston to the other side of the planet. Was missing our ECM Technika and a steady stream of fresh roasted Dodd Coffee to run through it.

Finally found a local roaster about 2 months ago where we are, not the same quality as we were used to, but at least close. Just in time too because I'd finally run out of Dodd coffee we had brought with us on the move that I'd been making with an aeropress and hand grinder.

Current setup is a Breville Barista Express and its at least decent to have espresso drinks at the house again. Best cost option I could find not knowing how long we'd need a 220V setup.

Hope everyone is staying well caffeinated.

No reason to run out of Dodd Coffee. Shoot me a PM and I will set you up a shipping coupon.

(That is for everyone as well)

I'd take you up on that, but the cost and time to get things shipped where we are from the USA is a bit much. Plus clearing customs, etc...

Promise we will stock up this summer when the family makes a visit back, provided travel opens up.

Sweet! Will be taking advantage of that today.
Edit: what 2 would you recommend? Currently just doing drip coffee in the Bonavita (I broke the Chemex).

The honey process is really good. I have been using it in the press for a few weeks now. I have not had the new one, but it came from the same region as one we have before and it was really good. I am also fan of Guatemala coffees so that helps.

Going to order some now and give it a shot. Make a pot in the chemex every morning and have never branched out to a local roaster - usually just buy whatever is at costco. Thanks!

Are these whole beans or ground already? Don't see an option on your website for either one.

I got a Breville Barista Express (looks like aggiebq03+ has one as well) and it's really solid so far. I read tons of reviews and it's the consensus best home machine by a long shot, has the grinder built in as well which is handy.

The steamer is great, still trying to dial in the shot but it's very drinkable as is. Just want to lose a bit of the bitterness

Everything we do is whole bean. Since we roast to order the beans still need to off gas and the shipping time allows for that. It also keeps the coffee fresher longer to leave it whole.

Just ordered a lb of the Sumatra and the Nicaraguan.

I've been picking up coffee at the Katz location off karbach st because I love the nitro-brew cold coffee they serve for free on tap.

I'm looking forward to trying the Dodd.

Does the coupon work for multiple order? For example, can I order 4 lbs and get 2 free?

They use oils and flavorings for those coffees. Just not something that we have wanted to get into. Also once you start running those through you grinder it is hard to get the taste out of them.

The brand i currently use has actual pecans in the mix for the flavor. Assume they use oils as well though.

Yea, you throw both in there. I wouldn't mind but my roaster is a little militant about coffee.

What flavors are you looking for? I am feeling froggy and wanting to test some things out.

What is a good ratio for cold brew?

I read somewhere that it was 7:1 and my gosh that is a lot of beans. I couldn't even get them all in the metal filter thing.

Ground on a Baratza Enore at like a 32 setting. Is that good?

Feel pretty lost here with the cold brew.

For the Encore anything from 30-40 will work. I would push more towards the 36-38 size.

Where did you get that ratio? Are you doing 7 oz coffee : 1 oz water? What are you using to brew your coffee? Stumptown recommends 12:64. I know when we tested out coffee we did it in small batches at different ratios but never that high. I don't have the information on hand but can get it next week for you.

Uhh yea... that ratio ain't right, unless you're gonna do like half cream or something. I go with 80g of beans and I think my cold brew maker holds 1000g. So roughly a 12.5:1 ratio. I set my Virtuoso on 30 and that seems to work pretty well.

I looked on the internet and 7:1 seemed to be on the high side! I was doing it in grams, however, not ounces. I appreciate the help.
