Thanks for the feedback.

I'll report back after this weekend. Got the device now but filters are coming tomorrow.

Java Pura has been consistently excellent when I have picked it up. Great packaging too if you want to get a gift box for a fellow coffee nerd. It's not cheap but quality.

It's a apparently a couple Strake guys that run it so added bonus in my book.

I've never ground Amaya at home but have always loved their stuff at the coffee shops.

We have a Breville BES840XL Infuser Espresso Machine that we would part ways with for $300. We really like it, but we don't use it near enough.

I fear this is where I would end up with a real deal espresso machine. I think I will keep making "good enough" espresso in my Aeropress for now.

If you are looking for something halfway I had really good results with this machine for a few years before I got a Breville. Sent this one to a buddy of mine and he uses it to this day. Overall I was happy with it despite not having a grinder.

The honey process is really good. I have been using it in the press for a few weeks now. I have not had the new one, but it came from the same region as one we have before and it was really good. I am also fan of Guatemala coffees so that helps.
Are these whole beans or ground already? Don't see an option on your website for either one.

Everything we do is whole bean. Since we roast to order the beans still need to off gas and the shipping time allows for that. It also keeps the coffee fresher longer to leave it whole.
Gracias! Will be ordering the honey roast.

Why don't you have any pecan roasted offerings?
They use oils and flavorings for those coffees. Just not something that we have wanted to get into. Also once you start running those through you grinder it is hard to get the taste out of them.
The brand i currently use has actual pecans in the mix for the flavor. Assume they use oils as well though.
What flavors are you looking for? I am feeling froggy and wanting to test some things out.
This is old, and I don't check this thread much...so sorry I never responded, wasn't intentional.

I'm a huge fan of pecan flavored, because, well, i love me some pecans and the coffee and pecan really mesh well together IMO.

Outside of that I really dig a hint of honey or brown sugar - but just a hint, too much and it becomes too sweet and overpowering for me.

Something infusing bourbon or rum would also be very intriguing.

i've always wondered if you could roast beans where they are more smoked than roasted so that you really get that smoke profile, like you do when you smoke cheese or meats. If anything, it would be fun to experiment with IMO to see what it ends up like and if it's palatable.

Do you guys still do the honey process beans? I don't see them on your website.
I'm down for that as well if you need testers. We LOVE pecan coffee. We were addicted to Katz pecan coffee for a long time but they started using artificial flavorings and the quality just changed. Haven't had it in years now. Would love a Houston Local maker of Pecan Coffee!!!
Independence
Lola Savannah
Pirate Island

All local with pecan blends. I haven't tried the Pirate Island yet, but Independence and Lola Savannah make good pours IMO.

A friend of mine made me a couple of cups from a chemex when I was just starting to like coffee tears ago. It was great and made me realize black coffee can be good. I'd probably have one if the wife drank coffee.

I don't think the V60 is super finicky when you get a good grind size but I also don't experiment a lot with recipes/methods on it. Sometimes darker roasts can act weird in the cone and make a weird crust and cling all over.

I've heard good things about the Kalita and the clever drippers also seem pretty cool and more forgiving.

Been a while for Boomtown and I've only had drinks directly from the cafe but I remember it being good. I need to try more from Java because it's been a while. They seem to offer a huge selection of blends and single origin. The couple of bags from Amaya have been great. Last I had was a really great Costa Rican.

Check out some of the tasting notes from Purefi. If you get two bags the shipping should be free.

I'm a big fan of the Kalita so far. Took a little tweaking to figure out the right amount of grinds to use in there but love the smaller footprint and brewing right into an insulated mug is a nice bonus.

Anyone brewing with cloth filters? I have a big chemex sized one that I occasionally use. I haven't fully figured out it's quirks, but it has made a good cup or two.

Enjoying a Java Pura pour this morning - bourbon aged beans. I like it.

I have used the bamboo cold brew bags and gotten some awesome results. Haven't done too much cold brew lately since the weather is cooler.

Cleaning I would just throw them in quick wash in the washing machine and make sure there was an extra rinse cycle added. Air dry.

Definitely use a coarser grind. Used an espresso grind in one of my bags and it was just a mess.

I would be curious if there was a cloth option for a kalita.

are cloth filters a purely "green" thing or do they improve the flavor profile somehow?
FitzChivalry

I think it's mostly a penny pinching thing.

Can't imagine how it would improve flavor over disposable filters. Maybe less exposure to paper/pulp chemicals?

the one I looked up was $20 and said it was good for 100 uses, so doesn't seem like you save anything. Maybe they have cheaper ones
FitzChivalry

That definitely doesn't save any $$. Must be "Green" lol.

The bags I use have been going strong for about 3 years now.

Edit: these on Amazon look very similar to my cold brew bags. May order these just to give them a shot.

Yeah I originally bought mine when Chemex filters were hard to find and the price on Amazon for them was over 20 bucks a box whereas the coffee sock at the time was like $10 for two. They definitely are inferior to paper filters, cleaner than a French press but still kinda muddy. I grind a little finer than I would a chemex but still not as fine as I would a v60. Any coarser and the water just shoots thru.

Anyone have experience with De'Longhi EC9335R La Specialista Espresso Machine? Thinking about making the leap. The convenience of the built in grinder and the tamping mechanism are appealing for early mornings. We've had a De'Longhi Nespresso machine for making espresso for several years and had no issues. TIA!

Edit: And what kind of espresso beans do y'all recommend. My daughter suggests Karmadillo Dark Espresso Blend from Cuvee in Austin.

Pulled the trigger and set it up this morning. The HEB near me had very limited espresso bean options. Using Stella Cometa Espresso Blend beans from Cuvee. Not bad.

Took a little while to get this thing dialed in. Should've read the instructions first. The built in grinder is solid and really like the built in tamper. Too much coffee and the portafilter is hard to close and it loses pressure when brewing. Lots of failed pulls before getting something worth drinking. The frothing wand is solid. Enjoying a nice cappuccino now.

Would anyone be interested in buying my Flair Neo?Had fun with it initially but it's just been collecting dust after getting a Gaggia Classic Plus.

Nice! I like the look of those machines. Check out target for some Intelligentsia Black Cat espresso. They were having a sale on it for a few weeks around Christmas. Might order some Lavazza Super Crema if you can't find that in whole bean in the stores. It's a good one to learn on and is great for milk drinks.

Thanks! Have a bag of Black Cat - will likely try it next. Lavazza and Illy beans on the way!

I really think there's enough competition around the $1.5k (really, Lelit is killing it with their dual boiler) that it's a lot easier to justify a purchase relative to daily coffee runs. Especially when you couple with buying bulk beans (Red Bird 5lb. bags are my jam - vac and freeze). I know payback on my machine was 8 months. Another 2 months including the grinder. But we were habitual coffee shop attendees.

I've had the Lucca for 4 or 5 years now:

Anyone have a recommendation for a reasonable countertop coffee maker? Looking for something that can do multiple sizes easily from single cup to full carafe, and I don't use pods. I'm looking to replace a Ninja coffee station that is getting worn out.

I have pour over, siphon, aeropress, etc setups for when I feel like putting in the effort. The Ninja has an 8 ounce Specialty setting that makes a poor man's pour over, and I've actually been impressed by the taste when considering ease of use compared to a full process. It's definitely not the same quality, but for average use purposes it does fine.

I've got a breville grind control that I have been happy with. I got it when the local Sam's had them on clearance for $99, so price didn't enter into my sense of satisfaction

I still prefer my siphon but when I don't have the time.

We have wanted to make a change for some time. Amazon Prime day prompted us to go the super automatic route Gaggia Velasca Prestige. Going full Italian with Lavazza Super Crema Whole Bean and Godinger Coffee Mugs. So far so good.

No more Starbucks is a good thing.

Anybody upgrading and wanting to sell their current espresso machine? Probably only interested in something super automatic. Grind, espresso, and maybe froth (unless clean up is easier with a separate tool, as I don't think we will use the froth very much).

One thing on my "wish list" this year and that is an updated coffee maker.

Any recommendations? Looking for something for the house that is versatile but doesn't have to be huge given I am the only regular coffee drinker

Technivorm Moccamaster

I have had this one for several years and love it. It is pricey but seems well built and makes a very consistent cup of coffee.

I'm considering the Moccamaster, Oxo, and BonaVita.

What does everyone think about those?

I had the Bonavita and it was fine… plastic components kept breaking on me though. Upgraded to this
Breville Precision Brewer Thermal Coffee Maker, Brushed Stainless Steel, BDC450BSS https://a.co/d/1qSenk5
and I love it. Absolutely zero issues and it makes great coffee.

I've had the 9 cup, programable Oxo for 5+ years now. Great coffee maker.

Having a programable machine is a must for me, which is why I initially went Oxo over Moccamaster. It is also a little lower price point.

I have seen people set up plug timers for Moccamasters.

Oxo recently updated the 8 cup, non programable version to good reviews. Pros would be the "single cup" capability and less wide footprint if you are short on counter space.

Bumping this thread for a couple questions.

1. Did Costco quit carrying the Ruta Maya whole bean coffee? Was at the Plano location yesterday and couldn't find it. It's my go to for daily drinking, and I'm in trouble if it's gone.

2. Can anyone recommend a drinkable decaf whole bean solution? I basically only drink coffee and water during the week. I survive on decaf K Cups in the office but don't have anything at home, and most of the decaf I've found is generally gross

I have yet to come across any decent decaf options and I don't really get it.

1. Do they carry Fara…? It's better than Ruta IMO.
2. Find a local roaster for decaf? My local roaster has a decaf option all the time. Don't know if it's good or not because caffeine keeps me alive.
