Yeah, ironically the part of the system I think needs to most continuity from year to year is defense… which is Dominguez' weakest area. So maybe he's the one guy I shouldn't be wishing would stay.

We had a team of leftovers this year and Bucky got us into the second round. More time and better talent will only help and a few of the players stay behind that will be appreciated if not good to them whereever they end up.

He wasn't used to physicality of the game here in the states and particularly the NCAA. But to his credit, he started to figure it out defensively and also started to put the ball on the floor when he'd get bumped or blanketed beyond the arc.

He's a 23 year old sophomore who's probably looking to go the G-League-NBA route or play pro ball overseas after another year. I don't think he'll stick around the college game for more than one season.

This is about him trying to find his best opportunity to showcase what he can do.

Texas A&M Men's Basketball Transfer Portal Update First Moves as Window Opens (April 8)

Portal window officially opened yesterday (April 7) and we're already seeing the first real activity for the Aggies. No commitments or heavy offer rumors yet, but a couple of current players have entered and A&M is showing early interest in a pair of incoming targets. McMillan's extension still has the program in solid shape heading into this.

Departures Two Aggies Enter the Portal

Ruben Dominguez (6'6 sophomore wing/guard) Officially in the portal as of April 7. Multiple beat writers (Travis Brown at KBTX, The Eagle, Aggies Wire) confirmed it. He was a rotational piece last year and this opens up another scholarship.

Josh Holloway (junior guard) Was the first name reported in the portal earlier in the week and remains there. As of midday April 7 he was the only one listed, but Dominguez followed quickly.

No other current Aggies have popped up in the portal database yet. Mgbako and the core (Isaacs, etc.) are still locked in from all reports.

Incoming Interest Early Contacts Noted

Jayden Reid (Northwestern transfer, 5-10 guard) Averaged 10.1 PPG and 5.0 APG last season. Source reports he's been in contact with Texas A&M (along with Auburn, Memphis, VCU, Kansas State, etc.). Fits the guard depth need.

Jalen Shelly (Loyola Marymount transfer, 6-8 sophomore from Little Elm, TX) Put up 13.7 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 2.7 APG. Also has A&M on his contact list per sources. Local kid with size exactly the type McMillan has been targeting for length/versatility.

Overall Vibe & Trackers

Beat writers and sites (Aggies Wire, SI.com/TAMU, The Eagle) have live 2026-27 transfer portal trackers up and running. Right now it's mostly departures and "in contact" notes no public commitments or visits announced yet. The program is still prioritizing size, length, and rim protection after last year's undersized roster.

Things are just getting started. Expect the pace to pick up fast over the next week as more players enter and offers start flying.

slimming up would be the worst thing he could do.
his weight, relative to his height, is deceptive.

he needs more strength. which, if he does it right would result in good weight, not just weight for the sake of adding weight.

he may be 1 pound more than Agee. but Agee's 6'5, whereas Zach is 6'11?
yet there's a monumental difference in strength.

I think it's impossible to rebound as poorly as he did without some deficits in strength. He's heavy because he's tall. He doesn't play strong at all.

Strength can help 3 point shooting - range, ease, combats shots falling short due to fatigue. I just view Clemence as a 3 point shooter (to me), I don't see his game changing much in his 5th year. So I can see strength improving his shot and stamina, I don't think it will make him more of an inside player if that's what we are hoping would happen.
